No doubt we are all still experiencing the“aftershock” of the travesty that occurred atEmanuel African Methodist Episcopal Churchin Charleston in recent days. Much has beensaid, experienced, felt and perhaps even left

SO WHERE DO WE GOFROM HERE?

unsaid…but, at the end of the day, where do we go from here?In the midst of the world’s “aftershock,” perhaps even more“shocking,” were the reactions and words shared by thosevaliant mourners from Charleston. Who will ever forget thatone challenge, “We have no room for hating, so we have toforgive.” Soren Kierkegaard (Christian Theologian/Philosopher)once wrote, “Life can be understood backwards, but it mustbe lived forwards.” So, where do we go from here? I believethat Kierkegaard and those tearful mourners offer us the chal-lenge to forgive, to reconcile and to move forward. Clearly thechallenge is to learn from this horrific act of terror, but all is invain if we cannot move forward in truth and love. As MartinLuther King Jr. stated, “I refuse to accept the view that man-kind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racismand war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhoodcan never become a reality…I believe that unarmed truth andunconditional love will have the final word. The evening those9 people gathered in Charleston to study and share Jesus’ un-conditional love, a number of our parishioners here at St. Jamesthe Fisherman Church gathered to continue anew our Theol-ogy Topics in the Tropics: small group discussions. Our groupdecided that evening to dedicate our next series of discussionsto the understanding of becoming a covenanted “Communityof the Cross of Nails.” As many are aware, following thedestruction of Coventry Cathedral during the bombing of thecity in November 1940, the people of that church made a com-mitment not to revenge, but to forgive and be reconciled. Theydeclared that when the war was over they should work withthose who were now their enemies, to build a kinder; moreChrist-like world. The words “Father Forgive” were inscribedon the wall of the ruined cathedral as a confession of the com-mon human need for God’s mercy. Out of this travesty duringWorld War II, sprang a movement that is alive and active to-day, preaching and living the message of true forgiveness andreconciliation. Is this not where we should go from here?“Adversity draws men together and produces beauty and har-mony in life’s relationships, just as the cold of winter producesice-flowers on the window panes, which vanish with thewarmth.” (Soren Kierkegaard) May this act of terror not flamethe fire of vengeance and hate, but somehow be transformedinto clear and concise actions of forgiveness and reconcilia-tion. May we truly be instruments of God’s grace and peace:“Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; andeveryone that loveth is born of God and knoweth God…Beloved,if God so loved us, we ought also love one another, God dwellethin us, and his love is perfected in us.” (1 John 4:7, 11-12)

(D) Many books of traditions were com-piled by the companions of the Prophet(S.A.W). The remarkable ones are SahifaeSadiqa by Abdullah bin Amer bin Aas,

Sahifae Ali, Sahifae Abu Bakr, Sahifae Jebir, Sahifae Samra binJundal and Sahifae Sahia by Abu Hurairah„’ The traditions ofthese books have been narrated by famous traditionists likeBukhari, Abu Daud, Hakim, Zailai etc. in their collections. Thisis sufficient to remove the misconception that the work of com-piling the traditions started one hundred years after the death ofthe Prophet (S.A.W)Refutation of the Orientalists - Thus the Qur’an and theSunnah are the two sources which provide law for every as-pect of human life for all the ages. This scientific and self-sufficient nature of Islamic Law is attacked by the oriental crit-ics of Islam like Joseph Schacht. Their criticism sometimesunconsciously adopted by some Muslim Scholars like AbdurRahim. The main thesis of the orientalists is that the IslamicLaw is not based solely on the Qur’an and -the Sunnah. Theysay that only a part of it is derived from the Qur’an and theSunnah, the remaining major portion is the product of the mindsof the jurists like Malik and Abu Hanifa who arranged and clas-sified the pre-Islamic customs and current usages. They go tothe extent that Imam Abu Hanifa relied on only seventeen tradi-tions, so the Hanafi Law was not based on the Sunnah. In thisway they prepare the ground for proving that the Roman us-ages, which prevailed in Egypt, Syria and Iraq were adopted byAbu Hanifa, and; there cannot presumably be any other basis ofthe Hanafi Law as Imam Abu Hanifa could utilized only seven-teen traditions and the Qur’an gives only a few rules of law.This is absolutely a false claim that pre-Islamic and currentusages were adopted by Abu Hanifa and Malik. How could sorenowned jurists go against the clear injunctions of the HolyProphet (peace be UPON him) and still enjoy I lie popular sup-port? The Prophet (S.A.W) has clearly condemned the pre-lslamic Customs and usages of other non- muslim communitiesin so many words: “Every pre4slamic custom has been crushedunder my feet.“Oppose the associators the Jews and the Christians in everywalk of life’“Whosoever adopts the practice of some other nation belongsto that nation.”Professor Abu Zuhra has refuted this thesis of the orientalists inthe following words“These people make the Maliki Law independent of the Qur’anand the Sunnah and say that ancient Arab customs have beenre-arranged and given the colour of religion. This is a very su-perficial view and is based on, prejudice.

from theWELL - JAIL - POWERFUL PERSONAssalamu Alaikum: There is a beautiful storyabout patience in the Holy Quran of Prophet

Yusuf A.S. in chapter 12. His brothers threw him into the well,but he was patient and so Allah (SWT) raised him out of thatwell. He ended up in the house of one of the most powerfulpeople of Egypt, but then Allah (SWT) tested him again. Thewife of Al Aziz, the finance minister, tried to tempt him, but hewas again very patient. Then Allah (SWT) tested him again andthrew him into prison, but he was patient for the sake of Allah(SWT). And in the end Allah (SWT) raised him to a very loftystation and he became one of the most powerful person in Egypt.This is the reward of patience. In this modern day, technology ismoving at warp speed to “fulfill our needs”. We have developedan impressive amount of technology that has taken us out of theindustrial age and into the “information” age. Almost everythingis computerized, and as we know, manpower has been replacedby “computer power.” However, all this technologicaladvancement is only possible by Allah’s (SWT) permission, forit is He indeed, who has created us to be intellectual humans andgave us the ability to conceive ideas, develop, invent, progressand advance ourselves. But, we seemed to have moved two stepsforward and three steps backward. We have moved forwardwith all this fast paced progress, our lives has been simplified somuch that we can share and learn the teachings of the Quranonline, we can give encouraging words and support online, wecan buy everything online, we can do all our finances online, wecan get a degree online, we can book our travel tickets online,we can get instant news bulletin as it’s happening, we can twitterour way into other people’s lives and connect with old and newfriends on Facebook, text our conversation to others and getinstant responses, and instagram our way into each other’s livesso that all our friends and family are notified instantly on thehighlights or lowlights of our day. Instant gratification is whatwe want and a lot of this technology has given that to us.According to Wikipedia, “Instant gratification” is an immediatesatisfaction or pleasure which focuses on the present. It isexperienced when one does not use any effort to achieve thatlevel of satisfaction. This is where we seemed to have gonebackward; because this instant gratification seems to be creatinga culture with less perseverance and less patience. The youngergeneration has little patience dealing with their parents, seniors,bosses etc. We are annoyed when have to stand on line to getsomething done, we have less patience in an actual phoneconversation, we have less patience dealing with others on aone-to-one basis, less patience when faced with problems, wehave no patience when we’re caught in traffic, or when someoneis driving slow etc. We want our duas/ prayers to be answerednow.

Outer space made up of glorious andinterconnected galaxies, the planets andthe stars, the boundless blue sky, thebright blue oceans that move one deeply,the green fields, the majestic mountainsthousands of meters high and the lovelyanimals living in them all. And all thepeople born into such a wondrously cre-

ated world. People encounter this extraordinary world the mo-ment they first open their eyes after being born. The order inthe universe is determined down to the finest degree, and youcannot change it, even by a millimeter; the moment you do, thesystem will collapse. The level of oxygen in the air is adjustedto be at just the right amount for humans and animals to breathe.The Sun, the moon, the stars, the delightful animals, the flow-ers, the plants and the lovely-smelling fruits and vegetables thatemerge from the immaculate soil are all placed at our disposal.So have you ever wondered what the point behind the creationof this wondrous universe is? Since all this majesty and exquis-itely precise design could not have appeared by chance, and areplaced at our disposal alone, there must be a reason for it, mustn’tthere? There is only one answer to that question: Love. Thesole aim behind the creation of the universe is love. The wholereason behind it is for man, the steward of this astonishingworld, to develop a sincere love in his heart for God, his Cre-ator, for him to properly appreciate His might and greatness. Agreat love for God and for His creations grows in the heart ofthe believer who grasps the greatness and might of God andfeels deeply His infinite mercy. God is the One Who bestowsthe great blessing of this love in the believer’s heart: As forthose who have faith and do right actions, the All-Mercifulwill bestow His love on them. (Surah Maryam, 96) It is nocoincidence that a person should feel a great love for God andHis creations in his heart. No matter what one does, one cannotproduce that sincere love in one’s heart purely by one’s ownendeavors. God is the One Who creates and gradually enhancesthis fine feeling. God reveals in the Qur’an that He bestowedgreat sensitivity to love on the Prophet John:… We gave himjudgement while still a child, and tenderness and purityfrom Us – he had taqwa – (Surah Maryam, 13)Love andfaith are intertwined. As the believer grows in faith, as he at-tains depth in faith, he begins to see God everywhere he looks.He sees a bird with glorious plumage and he praises and thankshis Lord. He sees a lovely flower and immediately gives thanksto God. He tastes delicious foods and offers up sincere thanksto God. He listens to music and is amazed by God’s creationand the effect it has on his soul. He never forgets God for amoment. clear here that the troubles Yajuj and Majujcaused “back in the day”, is nothing com-pared to the havoc they will inflict uponthe earth in the future. The Qur’an speaksof a time when the hordes of terrifyingwarriors known collectively as Yajuj andMajuj will breach the ancient wall betweentwo mountains and swarm across planetearth at lightning speed. It is easy to imag-ine that these tyrants, which are synony-mous with the Biblical Gog and Magog,are not mere mortals. The Qur’anstates;“When Yajuj and Majuj are letloose and swarm down every incline, andthe true promise is very near, the eyes ofthe deniers will be riveted. ‘Woe for us!We did not realise this!’” (The Qur’an:Surah al ‘Anbya’, 96-97) Scholars differas to the exact identity of the hordes ofYajuj and Majuj, but there are some pointsthat need to be considered. These vastarmies cannot currently be resident onplanet earth, or if they are they must bemiraculously hidden from our sight. TheIslamic scholars of old taught that thehordes of Yajuj and Majuj were equiva-lent to five sixths of the earth’s (then)population. Abu Hurayrah was a meticu-lous scholar who spent three years in thecompanionship of Prophet Mohammed.He related a hadeeth or saying of theProphet, in which he once stated, “Theywill emerge and come against the people.They will consume all of their water andthe people will flee from them. They willfire arrows into the sky and they will comeback stained with blood. They will say,‘We have vanquished the people of earthand now we are superior to those in theheavens in strength and power.’” Super-ficially it would seem as if there is a caseto be made that the hordes of Yajuj and

Majuj are Jinn, and that the wall, whichwas built by the legendary Islamic leaderDhu’l Qarnayn, was no mere ordinarywall, but a barrier between the world ofthe Jinn and planet earth. However,Rasoolallah (SAW) specifically stated thatthey were of the Sons of Adam. Theyare humans, but humans who have de-generated to such an extent that there isprecious little left of their humanity. Sogreat will their assumed authority and self-confidence be, they will not be satisfiedwith conquering the earth, but will alsoset their sight upon conquering the heav-ens: “They will drink (every drop of wa-ter they pass by). The people will resortto strongholds. And, Gog and Magog willthrow their arrows towards the sky.When they come back to them stainedwith what looks like blood, they will say:‘We have defeated the people on earthand those in the heaven as well.’ Then,Allah the Almighty will send against themworms in their necks that will kill themall.” Currently the hordes of Yajuj andMajuj are hidden from our sight, but theday is coming when the entire world willsee them and tremble. And who will saveus? None but Allah. He will send a pesti-lence against them, and they will perishwhere they stand. The hordes of Yajujand Majuj will be as grasshoppers in hissight. When we meditate about the in-credible power of Allah over His creation,and the intense love He has for His people,why should we fear any but Him? In thislife there are times when we becomeafraid. We all face our own personal Yajujand Majuj, if only on an infinitely smallerscale. But over us there is the protectiveshadow of the Almighty, and this is ablessing beyond compare. END

God is the OneWho bestows countless blessings on himstarting from his first breath until his verylast. Deniers,however, forget God and turn their lovedirectly towards other people, but theynever find the reward they seek. Somepeople set up equals to God, lovingthem as they should love God. Butthose who have faith have greater lovefor God. If only you could see thosewho do wrong at the time when theysee the punishment, and that truly allstrength belongs to God, and that Godis severe in punishment. (Surat alBaqara, 165) God is the One Who ac-cepts all repentance (Tawwab), the For-giver (Gafur), and the Most-Compassion-ate (Rahman); these names show howmuch our Lord loves, protects and is mer-ciful toward His servants.

Every time I read about living your life onpurpose, I would get confused. What is alife on purpose or a purposeful life? Howcan an ordinary person with averageknowledge live a purposeful life? Allahcouldn’t have left that for the rich andthe educated alone? There is no dearth

of literature on the subject but then again, that literature is ac-cessible to certain people and even those people are left withconfusion as they cannot figure out what purpose their liveshave. This apparent lack of purpose leads to a life full of dis-satisfaction, feeling like a failure because they felt had no realpurpose per se. One day while observing a couple, my confu-sion was gone and it was replaced with an answer that thor-oughly satisfied me. I got my answer when I met a couple thathas truly lived their lives on purpose. It was then that I had anepiphany as I realized that to Allah, purpose is not saving theworld or eliminating world poverty alone, it is simply livingyour life the right way. If you are involved in major causes,then by all means continue furthering them but for the averagesouls like myself, Allah has set a simple meaning of purposeand that is hidden in the ayah that states: “Whoever will do theright thing, whether male or female and believe in Me also,then I (Allah) will keep them in this world with pious and com-fortable life and after death give them the best return of theirnoble deed. (Quran 16:97) It is that simple: do the right thing.Now if you are wondering what the right thing is, I must elabo-rate. Right thing is the right action in each given situation. Ifyou are helping your friends and ignoring your family, you areNOT doing the right thing. Help your friends but do not givethem precedence over family because Quran clearly gives pref-erence to blood relations. Set your priorities right. Find outwhat would be desirable action in Allah’s eye in each situationand take that action. If you are sure that the only person whocould have stolen your ring is that maid who came to workover the weekend but you have not seen it with your own eyesthen fear Allah. Do not hold her responsible and do not punishher for no one knows the truth but Allah. You can ask her toleave but do not go overboard with your anger. If you have avacant house but your brother lives in a small cramped apart-ment with his family, then offer him your house. Do not amasswealth for it is only good when being spent to please Allah(swt). Let your brother live a more comfortable life if you canfor Allah (swt) will offer you a comfortable life in this worldand Akhirah for your admirable actions. In short, your actionsmust please Allah. Yes there are actions that may not displeasehim but would still not please him clearly so in those cases, letAllah be the sole judge.

At the company’s manufacturingfacility at Florida , We had to work day and night almost a24x7 work for months to get the first set of equipments andantenna for installation of the Phase-1 for doing 6 languagetranslations: English, Urdu, French , Turkish, Indonesian(Malay) & Hausa. The complex new innovation Antenna andsystems actually started taking shape at NAZTEC’s florida fa-cility. Keep in mind that Sa-tan cannot make us or forceus to commit sins; he justplays on our weaknesses andtries to deceive us in thoseweak areas of our faith, ourcharacter and in our conduct.Unfortunately we sometimesfall prey to his deceptive callsand we commit sins. That’swhy we must sincerely re-pent daily and seek Allah’smercy and forgiveness atleast 5 times a day in ourprayers. We should also con-tinue to recite our Quransdaily and read and ponder onthe meaning so we under-stand Allah’s advice and com-mands and can better imple-ment them in our lives. Wemust also continue to have thebest character and conductand continue to feed and helpthe poor and needy. Through-out our lives, while we havethe health and wealth, wemust also keep raising the barand strive to do more in thepath of Allah as He advised inchapter 4:95 saying that thebelievers who sit at home andthose who strive in the pathof Allah with their wealth andbelongings and their selves -are certainly not equal. Allahhas distinguished those whostrive in His way above thosewho sit at home and will givethem special rewards. Ranksspecially bestowed by Himand His forgiveness andmercy, for Allah is oft-forgiv-ing, most merciful.

The noble Prophet SAW advisedus to always strive for the bestin what we do and to ask Allahfor Jannatul Firadaus, the bestand highest Heaven. In our dailylives we certainly do strive forthe best; we strive for the high-est scores in school, we want thebest colleges, best careers, bestjobs, best salary, best wife, bestcars, best houses, best kids, mostwealth etc. but unfortunatelywhen it comes to Islam, we tendto fall short and settle for lastplace in everything. We pray theleast salaah, (if any), recite theleast amount of Quran, makeminimal effort to attend Islamicclasses, give the least charity,barely go to the Masjid forsalaah, we rarely make any ef-fort to share the message of Is-lam with others and we spendthe least time or money in doingso. My friends, this has tochange, we need to better bal-ance our lives. Let us at leastmake the intention today for usand our children to pray moresalaah and go to the Masjid andattend classes at least once ortwice per week. Let us recite ourQurans daily for at least 5 to 10minutes in the morning and eve-nings. Let us do more to help thepoor and needy and let us sup-port all dawah events or at leasttell other about Islam or sponsorsome Qurans or CDs and otherbrochures on Islam. My friends,Allah SWT advises us in chapter67:2 that He created and gave uslife and death so that He may tryor test us to see which of us arebest in deeds. Let us make everyeffort in our short and tempo-rary lives on this earth to ensurethat when we leave this world,we know we did our very bestin our daily lives to live in totalsubmission to the will of AllahSWT, Insha Allah.

It then requires some courage on yourpart to take that action for it may not alwaysplease you instantly but in the long run it defi-nitely will because it was done purely to makeAllah happy. They are plenty of right actionsone can take in a day from eating Halal food, tobeing patient with our children to loving ourparents, to staying faithful and loyal to one’sspouse and giving respect to others and more.But each action should be taken not to gainsomething from people but solely to make Al-lah (swt) happy. During the tests the company had invited sev-eral local imams to witness the tests and amongthe distinguished Special invitee to NAZTEC’smanufacturing facility was Shaikh Shafayat. Al-most a plane load of equipments were sent fromFlorida to jeddah airport and then to both theholy places. Mohamed Salahuddin and team ofvery capable engineers from florida landed upat Saudi Arabia for a 60 day non stop day &night work at both the holy places! We startedthe installation at Al Haram in Makkah with toomany technical and administrative challengesat the holy site. A brand new sophisticated con-trol Room was designed and created in a recordtime at the first level above King Fahad Gate ofAl Haram. A technically marvelous antenna sys-tem were erected at both minarets above theKing Fahad Gate. The minarets were almost400 feet from ground level and we had to getspecial permission to work at nights to avoidthe day time heat! Atleast two occasions theminaret elevator stopped midway due to tech-nical reasons and we had to wait a while insidethe elevator to be rescued ! Few occasions thepolice locked us up inside the minaret and left !Alhamdulilah Al Haram has very effective Se-

curity system and all our engineers and tech-nicians had special access identity cards toaccess any part of Masjid Al Haram for theinstallation work. All officials including se-curity , projects, maintenance , gate secu-rity , police, intelligence and everyone at bothholy sites were very cooperative for our dayand night first if its kind work at both theholy sites! We had to install custom indoorbroadcast Antenna at several indoor loca-tions at both holy places. Al-Hamdulilah thesystem was installed and tested in a recordtime of 40 days at Masjid Al Haram and in20 days in Masjid Al Nawabi. We did atleast3 Jumua”ahs reliability , coverage and ef-fectiveness testing and Alhamdulilah the sys-tem was fully commissioned and workingfor 6 languages at both holy places to thefullest satisfaction of everyone! Next timeMohamed or rest of the 70% non Arabicspeaking musalees visit the holy places - noneed to feel left out of the important Jumu’ahKhutbah’s , all can listen to the simultaneouslive translations in your own Smartphonesor from a custom device which is proposedto be automatically distributed from thou-sands of automatic vending machines pro-posed to be installed in and around Haram ,hotels, airports etc. Phase-2 of the projectis likely to start in next 2 months to addatleast 5 more additional channels and theultimate aim is to commission the 35 lan-guage system in both the holy places. Otherthan translation of the Jumu’ah Khutbahs ,the system will be used for tafseer of theHoly Qur’an during Ramadhan , importantannouncements in multiple language duringHajj, Ramadhan , Fridays and during othertime. “We thank Almighty Allah to haveblessed us and given this opportunity tomake a lasting difference to all the visitingmusalees for generations to come at MasjidAl Haram & Masjid Al Nawabi!” Al-Hamdulilah Mission Accomplished!
