Spring 2017 Safety Award Recognized for our outstanding commitment to safety Haile Gold Mine was honored with an Excellence in Safe- ty Award from the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce – for the second year in a row. The statewide safety award is presented to companies “‘achieving a commendable lost workday case rate during the previous calendar year.” “From the beginning, safety has been our top priority and I am exceptionally proud of our Haile team,” said David Thomas. “Having Haile Gold Mine named as one of South Carolina’s safest workplaces by the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce is a tradition we intend to work hard to keep.” “Safety is a proactive priority,” said Lara Sims, Manager of Health and Safety for Haile. “We set daily safety stan- dards, focusing on risk management. We identify potential hazards before they become problems. At Haile, we pride ourselves on creating safe work conditions.” In addition to two South Carolina Chamber of Commerce safety awards, Haile Gold Mine has been recognized for safety by the Mine Safety Health Administration. Haile was honored in the category of Large Open Pit Group for 136,201 employee hours worked without a Lost Workday Injury. Students in Lancaster County had a chance to see and feel real core samples and learn about the mining process during several school ca-reer days. Geology Land Man Joey Byrd led the exhibit at Buford High School and Roxanne Huffstetler, HRIS and Reporting Administrator, visited Kershaw Elementary School.

On April 20, Scott McDaniel, Environmental Manager for Haile spoke at the Blue Fin Restaurant in Columbia for the South Carolina retirees from the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Services.

Elected leaders from the Town of Kershaw and Lancaster County met at the mine for a site tour on February 21, their first visit since gold production began.

In the SpotlightHaile’s Citizen of the Year

Dominic Piper, an Australian journalist with Paydirt Magazine, crossed the globe to visit the Haile Gold Mine. It was Piper’s first visit to the U.S. Piper’s article on the mine will be the cover story for the Diggers and Dealers edition to be published this summer. Paydirt is a monthly magazine with international circulation that features diverse coverage of the metals and minerals industry.

In April the Kershaw Chamber of Commerce presented Linda with its annual Citizen of the Year Award. As Haile’s Community Relations Coordinator, Linda’s integrity and commitment to Haile make her a true reflection of what this award represents. “Linda, without exception, embodies the demonstration of our core values,” said David Thomas. “She is genuinely engaging in and serving the community and always represents OceanaGold in an impeccable manner.” Linda is always ready and willing to help no matter the assignment. She puts the company first and works hard to make sure every need is met and every detail handled. Congratulations, Linda! We are proud of you and thank you for your dedication.
