Mr Hogg first visited the school in November as part of National Anti-Bullying Week, when he invited pupils from Years 5 and 6 to design a logo for his campaign to tackle Cyber Bullying. The pupil with the winning strap line for Mr Hogg’s campaign was Cole Patton, age 9, who won a Kindle Fire. Between Saturday 15th and Sunday 23rd February 2014, 120,000 railway enthusi- asts from across the world flocked to the ‘Cradle of the Railways’ for The Great Goodbye; a final reunion of the six surviving Gresley A4 Pacific locomotives. This was the final event in a series of celebrations called ‘Mallard 75’, marking 75 years since Mallard raced down Stoke Bank at 126mph, to set a new steam locomotive world speed record; a record which still stands today. The world-record holder was joined by its sister Lo- comotives Sir Nigel Gresley, Bittern and the Union of South Africa, as well as the Dominion of Canada and Dwight D Eisenhower, which were temporarily re- patriated from their home museums in Canada and the USA. The Great Goodbye was the last time that all six A4 Lo- comotives will ever be seen together. Bishop Bookworms bag classics for charity

Wilko team members Vicky Wilson and Suzie Foster sell books to raise funding for the Great North Air Ambulance Service.Bookworms have been heading to Wilko in the Newgate Shopping Centre, Bishop Auckland, to snap up a literary bargain. The store is running a book sale to raise money for the store’s regional charity of the year, the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS). Customers have been donating books, CDs and DVDs, from the latest best-sellers to well-thumbed classics, which the store has been selling on, with prices ranging from 50p to £2. The £1,600 raised

by the book sale has been added to the annual total of £3,260 collected by the store this year. Andrew Jones, store manager, said, “Our book sale has proved immensely popular with customers and we have been over-whelmed with the support we have received from the community. We are always looking for more books, CDs and DVDs to help raise more money.“We’re very proud of the funds we’ve raised for the Great North Air Ambulance Service, which will go a

long way to helping the charity.” Mandy Drake, head of fun-draising at GNAAS, said, “We rely on donations to keep our air ambulances in the sky, so we’re very grateful to the Wilko store in Bishop Auckland for putting on a charity book sale for us.” The book sale will be taking place in store until the end of May.For more information on the Great North Air Ambulance Service, visit www.greatnorthairambu-lance.co.uk.

The ‘Talking About Cancer’ team is a small but very well established team who work in the community across County Durham and Darlington. Their main aim is to raise awareness around a range of cancer focuses. The team work in a very varied range of community venues, engaging with the general public, discussing signs and symptoms, cancer screening and risk factors connected to a range of cancers. Their aim is to improve public knowledge and

Local Table Tennis Coach Matt Porter is celebrating after completing a hat-trick of yearly coaching awards. Having previously won the County Durham Sports Local and County Coach of the Year awards this year, Matthew has just been named as the English Table Tennis Association’s Coach of the year. Matthew, from Bishop Auckland Table Tennis Club, which he formed in the summer of 2012, said,

“I’m absolutely thrilled to get the national award, it really rounds of the year nicely and is further motivation to push the club on further and get more people playing the sport, and of course help push the youngsters on to bigger and better things.”The club is celebrating a double victory at the ETTA awards, with Carol Rodway winning volunteer of the year. “Without the countless

hours Carol puts into the club we wouldn’t be as successful, or be able to offer as much to the community as we currently do. She is the perfect example of a committed sports volunteer and this award is reward for her efforts,” said Matt Anyone who is interested in trying table tennis should check out the club website at www.bishopaucklandttc.co.uk or call Matt on 07411 018 856.

Two great semi-final wins for St Mary’sLast weekend, the U10 Kings and U11s performed brilliantly, both winning their semi-final games. The U11s were away to TSC and made it hard for themselves, going two goals down, before Will Barnham’s fantastic free-kick pulled a goal back before the break.Kings levelled in the 2nd half when Jack Purdham’s penalty kick was smashed into the back of the net.TSC responded by taking the lead again, before Olly Johnson fired home for 3 – 3 and extra time. The winner came for the U11s with a fantastic run by Corbyn Mitchell, who chipped the ball over the defence to Olly Johnson who headed in at the near post. The U10 Kings played in-form team Stockton Town Yellow and, after an earlier-in-the-season goalless draw, it was always going to be a tough game. Stockton hit the bar early on before they took the lead. The Kings responded quickly and were level when Robson Clarey fired into the bottom corner. They went 2 – 1 up when Joseph Foster hit an un-stoppable shot past the visitor’s keeper. Sonny Richardson was outstand-ing and keeper Piotr Banda made some first class saves to deny Stockton. The Yellows pressed to the final whistle but The Kings held out for victory. Both teams now have Rockliffe Park finals to look forward to on the 18th May. The U15 Kings had their highest scoring perfor-mance of the season with

a 21 – 0 win over bottom team Leven F.C., but to give Leven credit, they kept going right to the end.Goals from Sam Parnaby (10), Gareth McMahon (5), Harry Coulthard (2), Jake McKellar (2), Liam Robson and Regan Blakey. The U14s had a great 5 - 3 win over Kader with goals from Cieran Jackson (2), Joe Bates, Luke Evans and Cameron Hall-Brown.The U13s also had a great 4 – 1 away win at North-allerton Juniors with goals from Callum Thomson, Zak Holywell and Mark Parvin. The U12 Aces had a good 3 – 0 away win at 21st Allstars with goals from Tom Aldsworth, Curtis Layfield and Liam Robson. The U15 Angels had their first game for five weeks and had a wonderful 4 - 0 away win at Leam Rangers, with goals from Kimberley Dodds, Shannon Reed, Dani Stephenson and a great header from Heidi Coulthard. There are still tickets left for the club’s next Sports Night on Friday 28th March with Lou Macari (ex Man Utd & Celtic) along with comic Kevin Connelly. Contact Steve Coulthard on 0796 842 6817 for tickets or further details.

Carol Rodway and Matt Porter have both won awards for their involvement in Bishop Auckland Table Tennis Club.
