Canonization of Mother TeresaNext weekend, on Sept. 4, will be the canonization of Mother
Teresa. She is such an incredible woman who lived her life
helping the poorest of the poor. She is someone whose example
of being giving and compassionate we can all try to imitate. She
took those who were suffering and tried to relieve that suffering
through her compassion and constant care.
Mother Teresa has always been such an inspiration to so
many because of her dedication and sacrifices. She is so easy to
relate to as she even spoke of her own struggles with her faith
and hope. Mother Teresa believed we must spend time in silence
to truly feel God’s presence. Two weeks from now, we will have
a special opportunity to spend time in silent prayer during our
Forty Hours Devotion.
Mother Teresa was also a strong believer in the dignity of
life. She always shared her thought on how much we should love
one another and how a smile could change someone’s day.
I am so grateful that we have such an incredible role model
in Mother Teresa. Blessed Mother Teresa, pray for us!
“Love begins at home, and it is not how much we do...but
how much love we put in that action.”
Amen? Amen.
A GOSPEL REFLECTIONLUKE 14:1, 7-14
by FATHER JASON WILLIAMSTHE PASTOR’S CORNER
“Everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, everyone who humbles himself
will be exalted.”
It would be interesting to count how many times the image of marriage or a wedding feast occurs throughout the Bible. Perhaps it’s because of our familiarity with weddings and their joyful celebration that God uses that imagery to depict his relationship with humanity, the Church, and even the blessedness of heaven. Our relationship with God is one of love, and that love is meant to bring us into the joy of eternal life, which is so beautifully depicted in our Second Reading today.
Jesus stresses the importance of humility for each of us because only through the truth of a humble heart can we recognize that the privilege of taking our seat around the banquet table of the Saints is not something we grasp for ourselves, but rather it is delicately prepared for each of us by the hand of God. He is the first to invite to his banquet those who can in no way pay him back for what he offers. What price could ever be marked on the ticket of our salvation? How could we assign a value to the saving Blood of our Lord?
Each week at Mass, indeed every day if we so desire, God offers us the opportunity to kneel before the throne of his mercy, uniting our own lives to the outpouring of divine Love, as a foretaste of heaven. May the humility of God in the Eucharist be a constant reminder to each of us of the Lord’s command to serve without seeking repayment, to serve in the truth of love.
Can we know the existence of God by our reason?Yes. Human reason can know God with certainty.[31-36, 44-47]
The world cannot have its origin and its destination within itself. In everything that exists, there is more than we see. The order, the beauty, and the development of the world point beyond themselves toward God. Every man is receptive to what is true, good, and beautiful. He hears within himself the voice of conscience, which urges him to what is good and warns him against what is evil. Anyone who follows this path reasonably finds God. (YOUCAT question 4)

41: Many people are
familiar with the
biographical sketch of
Augustine of Hippo,
sinner turned saint. But
really to get to know
the man is a rewarding
experience.
There quickly
surfaces the intensity
with which he lived his
life, whether his path led
away from or toward
God. The tears of his mother, the instructions of Ambrose and,
most of all, God himself speaking to him in the Scriptures
redirected Augustine’s love of life to a life of love.
Having been so deeply immersed in creature-pride of
life in his early days and having drunk deeply of its bitter
dregs, it is not surprising that Augustine should have
turned, with a holy fierceness, against the many demon-
thrusts rampant in his day. His times were truly decadent—
politically, socially, morally. He was both feared and loved,
like the Master. The perennial criticism leveled against him:
a fundamental rigorism.
In his day, he providentially fulfilled the office of
prophet. Like Jeremiah and other greats, he was hard-pressed
but could not keep quiet. “I say to myself, I will not mention
him, I will speak in his name no more. But then it becomes
like fire burning in my heart, imprisoned in my bones; I
grow weary holding it in, I cannot endure it” (Jeremiah
20:9). – www.americancatholic.org

PA S T O R’ S R A M B L I N G SINSTALLATION MASS: What a beautiful installation Mass we had. Fr. Del Staigers, who presided over the installation of me as the region’s pastor, said it was one of the most beautiful installation Masses he’d ever been to. Often, one of the things that people don’t appreciate about a Mass like that is all of the things that have to be coordinated to be able to involve three parishes. I want to thank all of those who participated and all those who came to the Mass. It was inspiring to hear the choirs from the parishes and to see all the priests who concelebrated and the families from each parish who brought up the gifts. And it was great to have so many people stay around for the reception. A special thanks to the pastoral staffs, choirs and choir directors, and Worship Commissions from all three parishes.

Forty Hours DevotionEveryone is invited to our annual Forty Hours Devotion. The opening Mass will be at 1:30 PM on Friday, Sept. 9, followed by continuous adoration until the closing service at the conclusion of 10:00 Mass on Sunday, Sept. 11. Please set aside some time in your busy weekend to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity
to prayerfully visit with the Lord in exposition in the peace and solitude of our beautiful, inspiring church. Since we must have someone present with the Lord for every hour during this event, if you are able to commit to even half-an-hour, please sign up on the sheets located on the pillars near the side entrances or on the table in the back of church. If you have any questions about sign-ups, you can call Jeff Icsman at 513-321-3089 or email at [email protected].

The Choir of Saint Cecilia Our parish has been blessed to have musicians willing to share their talents as cantors, instrumentalists and choir members. The choir is open for new recruits. We are pre-paring now for the fall and Christmas seasons, which are great fun to sing with a variety of music.
Singing in choir does not require advanced music skills. You will learn how to read music if you don’t already know. And choir does not require a solo voice (or audition). All you need is a voice that blends with other voices, a willingness to praise God in song, and the commitment to attend Tuesday night re-hearsal and Sunday morning 10 AM Mass. In return, you will discover a great group of people who love to sing and party!
No one joins unless asked. So consider this a personal invitation. In return, you are guaranteed to acquire a level of personal accomplishment and a measure of satisfaction in your spiritual life you can’t find elsewhere.
Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings from 7-8:30 PM, beginning Tuesday, August 30. Think about it and contact Bob Kellison at 871-5757, ext. 208, or [email protected].
Movie Night! On Wednesday, Sept. 7, everyone from our pastoral region is invited to dine at St. Cecilia’s cafeteria—food and drinks will be provided —and then go to the 20th Century Theatre to watch the movie For Greater Glory together. Please note that the movie is rated R for violence. Dinner will be at 6 PM and the movie will start at 7 PM.
One of the main figures in the movie is a young boy who was a Mexican Cristero who was put to death for refusing to renounce his faith at a time when Mexico was taking away their people’s religious freedom. Pope Francis will canonize Jose Luis Sanchez del Rio on Oct. 16, who was that same young boy. A truly inspiring story of faith.
