ON-GOING PARISH ACTIVITIES

Pope Francis’ Monthly Intention/ Intención mensual del

Papa Francisco

That the Church in Africa, through the commitment of its members, may be the seed of unity among her peoples and a sign of hope for this continent.

From Our Pastor, Fr. Matthew Zuberbueler

Dear Friends, “My children, I will be with you only a little while longer. I give you a new commandment: love one an-other. “ As Catholics, we know (or should know) that we al-ways read the Scriptures with the rest of the Scriptures in mind. Because of this we can easily hear Jesus say He will be with us only a little while longer and recall that He also said He will be with us always. Having celebrated the parish First Communions re-cently we are happy for the children that they have ex-perienced the special Presence of Jesus in Holy Com-munion. In this profound way He stays with us. Because of it we can grow steadily in our love for Him. This love is recognizable and real when it extends to others, to our brothers and sisters. Frequent and devout recep-tion of Holy Communion increases His love within us. A fun thing we do with the children is celebrate their Second Communion. Last week lots of children came up to me (and to the other priests) to say, happily and proudly, that they had just received their Second Com-munion. This means that their parents are bringing them to Sunday Mass—a central part in our growth in God’s love. Congratulations to all of them! Keep coming! I recommend this theme for daily living: when is my NEXT Holy Communion? May it be soon! And may it be effective in your growth in God’s love! Congratulations to our young people who received the Sacrament of Confirmation yesterday! Pray that they will always be effective witnesses for God’s love in the world. With my prayers, Fr. Matthew Zuberbueler Pastor P.S. I want to thank everyone who made our School Spring Celebration a fun time and a great success. In particular, thanks to our Knights of Columbus Council.

ST. ANTHONY OF PADUA SCHOOL

Dear St. Anthony Family,

My heart is still so full of gratitude for each of you that supported our Spring Celebration. Thank you for participating in a beautiful, grace-filled and historic evening in bringing together our parish and school communi-ties as one family, with one common purpose of investing in our children, our future Church!

I feel as though we’ve been adopted by the Knights of Columbus, our knights in shining armor, and am so grateful for their support, too. I want to especially thank Mark and Michelle Burtschi for all they did to make the event such a success and inspire others to lend a helping hand. Our parish groups: Nueva Esperanza and Pastoral Familiar, school families and school board members, generously helped transform our gymnasium into an elegant venue for celebrating! Our parish and school staff put a lot of effort into planning this event and making it such a joy-filled evening, centered on the sacrifices made for our youth.

Betty and E.J. Dvorscak have had such an impact on our students because of their love of Our Lord, which drove their desire to serve Him. The joy of their living in service has provided witness to our school children that it is in giving to Him that we really receive a hundredfold in this life!

Thank you E.J. for being an authentic witness to our younger generation and inspiring them to be who they are called to be – saints! We are so blessed! All of the St. Anthony family thanks you for your continued selfless generosity and for keeping the spirit of St. Anthony alive!

Yours in Christ, Nora Buçaj Principal

May 19 Stewardship Reflection “I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one an-other." (John 13:34). It is easy to love someone when they love you back. But it takes strength and courage to love someone when we feel unappreciated, used or feel our opinion doesn’t matter. It takes courage to “love my neighbor” when he may be someone I don’t like, some-one I don’t know or someone that doesn’t look like me.
