Its priority is “Catholic Education and Faith Formation.” Education and formation depend on people and places - - temporal needs. The Church, school buildings and parking lot have a real spiritu-al function. When safe and well maintained, they contribute to an “environment” that supports the mission of a teaching Church. To Teach Who Christ Is is no “Throwdown,” but it is a challenge and an opportunity for our par-ish. It is a challenge to your personal faith be-cause it presents parish “needs.” To consider prayerfully,. “What can I do? . . . How can my tal-ents and resources help to address such “needs?” These questions will be answered differently de-pending on circumstances. As the campaign slo-gan puts it, the appeal is not “equal gifts, but equal sacrifices.” The opportunity beyond the challenge is to know how important your prayers and sacrific-es are to your parish and our Archdiocese. Know that you have a part in a great work. But recog-nize too that any great work begins with INFORMATION. -Fr. Luczak

INFORMATION PLEASE!

To Teach Who Christ Is One of my favorite programs on the Cooking channel is “Throwdown” with culinary kingpin Bobby Flay. The whole point is for Master Chef Flay to throw down the “gauntlet” and compete with another chef considered best at cooking a par-ticular dish. The show begins with a mysterious, masked bicycle messenger giving Bobby an “information packet.” The packet contains a brief biography of the chef he’s going to challenge and the dish Bobby has to surpass. Win or lose, Bobby Flay knows how to use an information packet. The program has a spin-off quality about it . . . a little like “007 Cooks to Win.” In spite of that, it reminds me of how important information packets are. Before Lent, at all Masses, a Lenten preview book-let was distributed. Last Sunday, the Holy Week Schedules were given out in much the same way. And every weekend, the parish bulletin is cheerfully offered to all. What surprises me is the way people refuse a bulletin, booklet, or schedule with a ges-ture that seems to say “I DON’T NEED THIS!” An-other surprise is that when people complain about not knowing about something that was printed in a bulletin, they’ll assert: “But nobody reads the bul-letin!” The reason I’m writing this column is that I stubbornly hope that some people do read the bul-letin and pay attention to important announce-ments. This Saturday and Sunday (April 5 - 6) will be the First Information Weekend for the major steward-ship campaign, To Teach Who Christ Is. Infor-mation packets will be distributed at the three exits of the Church. To facilitate this process. Pa-rishioners will be asked to fill out a coupon before Mass. LENTEN PRAYER FOR THE WEEK Scripture: I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this? (Jn. 11:25-26) Reflection: Do I believe this? How does my life – the choices I make, my relationships, etc., reflect my an-swer. How does my parish community shape my belief in Jesus Christ? What are the crosses I am carrying in my life? Have I asked Jesus to help me lift my heavy burdens this Lent? (Our Sunday Visitor, c2013) Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, you have power over life and death. You know what is uncertain and obscure, and our thoughts and feelings are no secret from you. Cleanse me from my hidden faults, for I have done evil and you have seen it. Day by day my life draws nearer to its end. You know how frail I am, in soul and in body. Give me strength, Lord, in my weakness and uphold me in my sufferings. Amen. (St. Ephrem the Syrian) Action: Pray the Stations of the Cross. PALM/PASSION SUNDAY Please note that the Mass schedule for next weekend (Palm/Passion Sunday) is: 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and 7:00, 9:00, 10:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. As there are three options for the be-ginning of Mass that weekend, we will have the Procession at the 5 p.m., which includes the blessing of palms, the proclamation of the Gos-pel of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem and a proces-sion throughout the church. At the 7, 9 and 10:45 a.m. Masses we will have the simple en-trance which is as usual but blessed palms will be distributed. At the 12:30 p.m. Mass we will have the Solemn Entrance which includes the blessing of palms, the proclamation of the Gos-pel of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem and a simple procession. At all the Masses we will hear the proclamation of the Passion and Death of Jesus according to the Gospel of Matthew.

LENT SOUP SUPPERS AND PRESENTATIONS

Our three week Soup Supper and “Christ and the Arts” series concludes this Thursday, April 10th, with soup at 6:30 p.m. in the Holy Family Room and the presentation, “The Image of Christ in the Arts” by Fr. Richard Conyers, CSC, at 7 p.m. For the past 16 years Fr. Conyers has been teaching at Notre Dame College Prep where he is the chair of the Fine Arts Department and a member of the Religious Studies De-partment. Prior to that he was a member of the faculty at Notre Dame University, Holy Cross Col-lege and St. Mary’s College and served as curator of the Snite Muse-um at Notre Dame. Father Rich was ordained for the Congregation of the Holy Cross in 1969 and often assists here at the parish with Sunday Mass and the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Adoration Of Jesus In The Most Blessed Sacrament

A Holy Hour will be offered each Thursday evening during Lent in Church before the

Blessed Sacrament from 7:00-8:00 p.m.

April 10th Adoration is a time for praising, adoring, blessing,

giving ourselves to God and thanking Him for all that He is for us and for all we are to

become through Him. It is truly “prayer of the heart”.

The prayer is three-fold: a chant; a prayerful

meditation which will be offered by Deacon Rod: SILENCE - a short meditative time for each of us to adore

Christ, speak our own words to Him or simply listen.

TTWCI CAMPAIGN INFORMATION WEEKEND This weekend, April 5-6, will be the First Information Weekend for the To Teach Who Christ Is Stewardship Campaign. Packets of information will be distributed at each of the three doors as you leave Mass. In order for us to know who receives the packets you will be asked to fill out a coupon before Mass begins. The coupons will be in a cup in each pew and row of chairs. Please

fill out a coupon (one per household) and then give the coupon to a member of the Information Committee when you receive your packet. If you will not be here the weekend of April 5-6, please come to the Holy Family Room the weekend of April 12-13 to pick up your packet. We think you will find these materials helpful in understanding how important your participation is to this campaign and to our parish!

HOLY THURSDAY PILGRIMAGE

Why, on this night, do we travel from church to church to adore the Lord? It was at the Last Supper Jesus gave us the Eucharist, His eternal presence in our lives. He gave us the Eucharist to remind us that He is always with us to help strengthen us as we go about living our lives as his disciples. The Eucharist also points to Christ’s command that we all be on in love for Him and for each other. So, on this night we travel about to share our celebration of the Holy Eu-charist with one another. Our tradition of making a pilgrimage to other churches on Holy Thursday will take place again this year. The Mass of the Lord’s Supper is at 7:30 p.m. We leave promptly at 9 p.m. (or a little earlier) and will return to St. Isaac’s this year early enough to spend some time in adoration here at our own par-ish. Our plan is to visit St. Joseph the Worker, Our Lady of the Brook, St. Norbert, St. Philip the Apos-tle, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, St. John Brebeuf and then back here. If you wish to join us, it is necessary to reserve a seat on the bus. It is important to make a reservation early as we will have just one bus. Please call the Rectory at 847/967-1060 to reserve your place. A donation of $5 per person is requested to offset the cost of the bus. It will be collected that evening. Please remember we get on and off the bus several times and some of the churches have stairs or are a bit of a walk from the parking lot to the building. Not all churches remain open until midnight (some only until 10 or 11) so we will do our best, with eve-ryone’s cooperation, to get to all the churches named!

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

There is a geography to the liturgy of baptism that distills the journey of faith. Each part of the liturgy is assigned to a distinct part of the church building. Bap-tism, whether of infants carried to church by their par-ents or of adults following the paschal candle into a darkened church at Easter, starts at the door. First, a threshold must be crossed and a new community of meaning and memory encountered for the first time. Then, the celebration moves to the place for God’s Word. Next, as the litany of the saints is sung, there is a procession to the font. Finally, the movement is to the table, the altar of the Eucharist. There, newly bap-tized adults are brought to the sacred meal, or the par-ents of infants are blessed and reminded that their child will one day share fully in the table’s banquet. Many Catholic churches honor this geography by placing the font near the door, or at least small vessels with water.
