Dear Parishioners, The weather has been a bit crazy lately. We have spring-like temperatures, then we have snow, bitter temperatures and then back to the 50’s and rain. In other places, it seems like the weather remains the same, check out the weather report for Hawaii. I went on the Website and for the month of February the general forecast was partly sunny, high in the low 80’s, low in the high 60’s. The weather can reflect the way our spiritual relationship is with God. We are pretty much up and down. Some days we are pretty good in the love department, other days are warm and sunny but we quickly can become cold and hurtful. But God, on the other hand, is warm and sunny, day after day after day. During this season of Lent, let us try to be consistent each day with a warm, loving heart in imitation of Jesus. May all that we do or what we stop doing help us to achieve this purpose. This month’s issue of the Word Among Us offered four spiritual resolutions to help to grow in our relationship with Jesus.

• Spend time each day in personal prayer, praising and thanking God for His love and grace.

• Examine your conscience daily, and repent of any sins that keep you from reflecting God’s presence to others.

• Devote some time each day to reading Scripture and asking the Holy Spirit to speak to your heart.

• Make it a point to participate in the life of the Church through the liturgy and parish involvement.

We installed security cameras in the chapel this past week. A few weeks ago, the poor box was stolen from the chapel. We have had occasional problems with money stolen from the poor box. Since the chapel is open daily with Adoration taking place, this has not been an issue. It is on the weekend, when there is no Eucharistic Adoration, that there seems to be a problem. This is not a major issue, but we decided to be on the safe side and install the cameras. This can also give parishioners who are alone a sense of security. I will be available for confessions on Wednesday, February 24, from 2:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. in addition to The Light Is On For You from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. May Jesus continue to shepherd you in all of your needs.

God love you,

Immaculate Conception to Christ the King

February 21, 2016

Please place this page on your refrigerator for this week’s reflection

“Mercy is the very foundation of the Church’s life. All of her pastoral activity should be caught up in the tenderness she makes present to believers; nothing in her preaching and in her witness to the world can be lacking in mercy. The Church’s very credibility is seen in how she shows merciful and compassionate love. The Church has an endless desire to show mercy. Perhaps we have long since forgotten how to show and live the way of mercy. The temptation, on the one hand, to focus exclusively on justice made us forget that this is only the first, albeit necessary and indispensable step. But the Church needs to go beyond and strive for a higher and more important goal. On the other hand, sad to say, we must admit that the practice of mercy is waning in the wider culture. In some cases the word seems to have dropped out of use. However, without a witness to mercy, life becomes fruitless and sterile, as if sequestered in a barren desert. The time has come for the Church to take up the joyful call to mercy once more. It is time to return to the basics and to bear the weaknesses and struggles of our brothers and sisters. Mercy is the force that reawakens us to new life and instills in us the courage to look to the future with hope.” -- Pope Francis

In a theological sense, Justice is the rendering to other humans and all creation what God intends for them. Christian Justice is not predicated on human laws but on the Word of God. Justice means seeing temporal realities with the Eye of God and acting from this perspective.
