LIFE (Learning In Faith Experiences)
Last Tuesday we had a very special event take
place at St. Lucy’s: some of our young
Parishioners (minus two who could only be
with us in spirit due to illness) received the Sacrament of
Reconciliation! Together as a Faith Community, we
experienced and had a share in God’s grace-filled,
unconditional, generous, transforming and forgiving love in a
new and special way! Over the last months, along with the
Sacramental Catechists, I’ve had the honor and privilege of
getting to know these young Parishioners (and their families) as
they embarked on this part of their faith journey. I’m always
amazed and yes, flabbergasted, by how the Holy Spirit works in
our lives as I watch these young people grow stronger in faith
and in their relationships with their loving God by asking
questions, sharing stories, and praying together. Tuesday
evening, families and children gathered in Church, all dressed
up for a special occasion: meeting Jesus. Of course the children
were a little nervous anticipating doing something new and
different for the first time, but as each one emerged from their
private confession, having been absolved of their sins – they
came out with a sense of freedom. The best way for me to
describe the difference in the children as they came out of the
Reconciliation Room from when they entered it is with an
image of a butterfly emerging from its cocoon. The wings of the
butterfly unfurl, dry, and then begin fluttering – and finally the
butterfly gracefully glides through the air observing its new
surroundings. I ask that you please continue to pray for all of
our young Parishioners that they continue to ask questions,
share stories, pray, and experience the Sacraments.
Written by Colette Savaria, LIFE Coordinator
Reminder: First Communion classes begin on Thursday,
February 2 from 3:30-4:45pm in the Parish Center.
Please pray for all the men and women who have served and
who currently serve in the armed forces, and the military
commanders who lead them. Pray for our homebound
Parishioners and the sick of the Parish (including those in
hospitals and nursing homes). Pray for the unborn, the
premature, and the fragile among us so that we may deepen our
respect for life at all stages.
