VOCATION Roman Catholics in the United States spend a good deal of time speaking of “vocation” and the manner in which each of us discerns our vocation for life. In today’s apos-tolic letter, however, Peter gives us the “cornerstone” of our vocation, the description of what each of us is called to first and foremost by our baptism. He describes our vocation as “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of [God’s] own, so that you may announce the praises” of Christ, who called us out of darkness into light (1 Peter 2:9). All of

us, no matter what path our life’s vocation may take us down, have been chosen by God, made holy, and anointed as priests in the high priesthood of Christ through baptism. All of this, so that we may announce the praises of Christ. Vocation is given for proclamation at home, in the workplace—wherever life takes us—in service, in word, and in sacrament. © Copyright, J. Our Lady of Fatima The Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, appeared 6 times to 3 shepherd children: Lu-

cia, Francisco, and Jacinta; between May 13 and October 13, 1917.

The Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, appeared 6 times to 3 shepherd children; Lucia, Fran-cisco, and Jacinta; between May 13 and October 13, 1917. She came to the little village of Fatima, which had remained faithful to the Catholic Church during the recent persecutions by the government. Our Lady came with a message from God to every man, woman, and child of our century. Our Lady of Fatima promised that the whole world would be in peace, and that many souls would go to Heaven if Her requests were listened to and obeyed. She told us that war is a punishment for sin; that God would punish the world for its sins in our time by means of war, hunger, persecution of the Church and perse-cution of the Holy Father, the Pope, unless we listened to and obeyed the command of God.

At Fatima, Pope John Paul II said on May 13; “the message of Fatima is more relevant and more urgent” then when Our Lady first appeared. The message is an anguished appeal of our Heavenly Mother, Who sees us in great danger and Who comes to offer Her help and advice. Her message is also a prophesy, a clear indication of what was about to transpire in the 20th century, and what is still going to happen infallibly in the near future, depending on our response to Her requests. As a great sign of the whole message truly coming from God, a marvelous miracle was worked in the sky above Fatima before 70,000 witnesses on October 13, 1917 at the time, date and place that Lucy and the other two children had prophesized in the name of Our Lady of Fatima. Our Lady told the children that God would perform a miracle so that people would believe in the apparitions.

Our Lady of Fatima continues to work miracles today through Fatima water, which is sent from Fatima, Portugal around the world. This Fatima water sprang up in Fatima at the spot the Bishop told people to dig, very near where Our Lady appeared at the Cova de Iria (the Cove of Peace) in Fatima. The water is known to cure people with sicknesses and poor health. Still, other peo-ple are cured when they go on pilgrimage to Fatima, which is about 90 miles north of Lisbon, Portugal.

The Feast of Our Lady of Fatima is celebrated by all Catholics of the world on May 13. (For more information related to Mary and Marian art visit: www.udayton.edu/mary .)

And God Created Mothers!! God took a little sunshine, sprinkled it with dew, tore from the heavens a raindrop, added a star or two; snatched the unassuming innocence of a child, and in an instant, created a Mother's smile. On the canvas of the sky, He gently dipped His brush… With the colors taken from the rainbow, painted a Mother's blush. Plucked a flower ever so gently from a garden with care… With the petals from a rose, placed patience and understanding and the ability burdens to bear. Took the stillness of the thunder, blended it with the softness of a dove; with precision and cunning, created a Mother's love. With a dash of blue from the infinity of the sea, placed in a Mother's heart, truth and humility. Captured gold from Saturn's ring, spun it with silver from a shooting star, delicately placed it within a Mother's reach, so for the luxury of her days, she would not have to travel far. And God looked at what He had made... And He was ecstatically pleased, for in all creation there was None as precious as these… MOTHERS

O ne of the eternal truths about motherhood (from one who knows) is that moms worry. A lot. Before

we have the baby, we worry about the pregnancy. Once the baby is born, we worry about every little thing that could go wrong. Then the big-kid years arrive with a whole new set of worries. A mother’s worry doesn’t stop through the teenage years and continues right into adulthood. A mother’s work (and worry) is literally never done. But as Catholic moms, we believe that God is with us every step of the way. It is great comfort to know that we can bring our worries to God in prayer and place our children in God’s hands when needed. God does not promise to make parenthood easy, but he does promise to “be with us always, until the end of time” (Mt 28:20)

Reflexión al Evangelio de hoy: Juan 14,1-12 VOCACIÓN

Los católicos en los Estados Unidos pasan mucho tiempo hablando de “vocación” y la manera en que cada uno de nosotros discierne nuestra vocación en la vida. Sin embargo, en la carta apostólica de hoy, Pedro nos da la “piedra angular” de nuestra vocación, lo primero y principal en el llamado de cada uno de nosotros a raíz de nuestro Bautismo. Él describe nuestra vocación como “estirpe elegida, sacerdocio real, nación consagrada a Dios, pueblo de su propiedad para que pro-clamen las obras maravillosas de aquél [Cristo] quien nos llamó de las tinieblas a su luz admira-ble” (1 Pedro 2:9). Todos nosotros, sin importar la senda por la cual nuestra vocación de vida nos lleve, hemos sido elegidos por Dios, hechos santos, y ungidos como sacerdotes en el alto sacerdo-

cio de Cristo por nuestro Bautismo. Todo esto, para que podamos anunciar las maravillas de Cristo. Se nos da una vocación para que proclame-mos mediante el servicio, la palabra y el sacramento dentro del hogar, en el trabajo y dondequiera que nos lleve la vida. © Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co.

"Nuestra Señora de Fátima"

La veneración de la Virgen de Fátima comienza el 13 de mayo de 1917 cuando tres niños, Lucía dos San-tos, Francisco Marto y su hermana Jacinta, primos de la anterior, que realizaban labores de pastoreo, vieron a la Virgen María cerca del lugar conocido como Cova do Iria junto a Fátima. Las 6 apariciones a los tres niños acaecieron desde el 13 de mayo hasta el 13 de octubre de 1917. Lucía de 10 años y sus primos, Jacinta y Francisco de 9 y 6 años respectivamente, relatan que sintieron como el reflejo de luz que se aproximaba y vieron a una Señora vestida de blanco surgir de una pequeña encina. Los niños aseguraron que se trataba de la Virgen, la cual les pidió que regresaran al mismo lugar el día 13 de cada mes. Entre las recomendaciones, según los testimonios de los niños, la Virgen hizo hincapié en la importancia del

rezo del Rosario para la conversión de los pecadores y del mundo entero. La Virgen también habría pedido la construcción de una capilla en el lugar, capilla que fue el germen del actual santuario. La Virgen María se apareció otras cinco veces a lo largo del año 1917. En el tiempo que sucedieron las apariciones, la Virgen, según testimonio de los videntes, realizó varias profecías, recomendaciones y entregó tres mensajes conocidos como Los tres misterios de Fátima. Se afirma que tres mensajes fueron entregados por la Virgen a Lucía, la ma-yor del grupo. El primer misterio mostraba una visión del infierno mientras que el segundo hablaba de cómo reconvertir el mundo a la cristiandad. El texto del tercer misterio se mantuvo en secreto por muchos años y sólo fue revelado por el Papa Juan Pablo II, el 26 de ju-nio de 2000. Además, la Virgen predijo el final de la Primera Guerra Mundial (la cual terminó al año siguiente) y la muerte prematura de Francisco y Jacinta. Francisco murió el 4 de abril de 1919 y Jacinta el 20 de febrero de 1920, ambos fueron luego beatificados. El actual santuario, cuyo nombre completo es Santuario de Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Fátima recibe anualmente cuatro millones de peregrinos y en sus inmediaciones se han establecido más de 50 casas de religiosas femeninas y unas 15 congregaciones masculinas que incluyen un seminario. Nuestra Señora de Fátima sigue haciendo milagros por medio del agua de Fátima, Portugal, cuyo venero se encuentra muy cerca del lugar donde la Virgen se apareció en la Cova do Iria. Se conoce que esta agua milagrosa cura enfermedades. Personas se han curado después de visitar la capilla de Fátima la cual se encuentra a 90 millas al norte de Lisboa, Portugal. (www.corazones.org)

U na de las verdades eternas acerca de la maternidad es que las mamás nos preocu-pamos muchísimo. Antes de dar a luz, nos preocupamos por el embarazo. Una vez

que el bebé nace, nos preocupamos por cada cosa que pudiera pasarle. Luego, cuando nuestros hijos niños crecen, viene otra serie de preocupaciones. La preocupación de las madres sigue durante la adolescencia de los hijos y continúa hasta que son adultos. El trabajo de la mamá (y preocupación) literalmente nunca se termina. Es un gran consuelo saber que podemos presentarle a Dios nuestras preocupaciones por medio de la oración y poner a nuestros hijos en sus manos. Dios no nos promete que nuestra labor como mamás será fácil; sin embargo, sí nos promete “estar siempre con nosotras, hasta el final” (Mateo 28:20) Reflexión: ¿Pongo mis preocupaciones en manos de Dios?

Nếu tin như thế thì không thể gọi là có niềm tin được, vì chỉ có những kẻ nghi ngờ không tin mới duyệt xét. Thí dụ khi chúng ta nghi ngờ một người ăn cặp và muốn tìm tang vật thì phải xét họ. Mà nếu chúng ta đòi khám xét họ tức là không tin lời nói của họ nói là họ không lấy. Sau khi khám xét xong mà không tìm thấy gì, thì lúc đó chúng ta không có tư cách để nói rằng chúng ta tin là anh ta không ăn cắp. Thật buồn cười cho những kẻ không có đức tin tự bào chữa cho bản thân mình là "tôi không muốn tin người ta một cách mù quáng, hoặc phải thấy mới tin, hoặc nên cần xem xét mới tin được". Lời Chúa cho họ rằng : “Phúc cho những kẻ không thấy mà tin”. Họ là những người vô phúc vì họ không tin những gì họ không thấy. Những người tin là những người đón nhận Lời Chúa mà không cần xem xét.

Thánh Gioan nói cho chúng ta biết Chúa Giêsu chính là Sự Sống. Có bao giờ chúng ta tìm kiếm cái gì ở trước mắt mà tìm hoài không thấy không? Khi tìm thấy rồi mới nói "không ngờ nó ở đây mà tìm nãy giờ không thấy". Cái không ngờ và không biết mà chúng ta thường gặp phải, là khi tìm kiếm cái cặp mắt kiếng mà cuối cùng mới tìm thấy đang đeo ở trên mắt . Xưa kia các môn đệ ao ước nhìn thấy Chúa Cha, nên các Ngài mới xin Chúa Giêsu cho nhìn thấy Chúa Cha, nhưng không ngờ là các Ngài đã nhìn thấy Chúa Cha khi nhìn thấy Chúa Giêsu, khi nghe Chúa Giêsu nói với các Ngài: “Nếu anh biết Thầy, anh em cũng biết Cha Thầy. Ngay từ bây giờ anh em biết Người và đã thấy Người”. Các Thánh tông đồ không ngờ được Thiên Chúa chính là sự sống mà các môn đệ đã gặp mà lại không nhận ra. Không có ai trong chúng ta có thể tồn tại mà không do Thiên Chúa ban vì Ngài chính là sự sống, nên khi chúng ta làm giúp nhau vì yêu thương là chúng ta làm cho Chúa đó. Chúa Giêsu chính là Sự Sống. Chúa Cha chính là Sự Sống. Có những người đã từng nói với Chúa là con yêu Chúa lắm, nhưng sau đó lại xúi người khác phá thai, nên sau này khi rời khỏi thế gian, gặp Chúa thì lúc đó "không ngờ" hay "không biết" cũng muộn màng rồi.

Hãy đến với Chúa khi chưa muộn màng, hãy học khiêm nhường và hiền lành nơi Chúa, hãy bắt chước Ngài trong cách sống hằng ngày, hãy sống sự thật và tôn trọng sự thật, để kín múc được sự sống đời đời, vì Chúa là Đường, là Sự Thật, và là Sự Sống, không ai đến được với Chúa Cha mà không qua Chúa Giêsu.

Xin Chúa chúng con được biết Chúa, yêu Chúa, và nên giống Chúa, để chúng con biết tôn thờ Thiên Chúa và yêu thương tha nhân. Amen. Lm. Anthony Nguyễn Duy Tường

T rong Tin Mừng Thánh Gioan hôm nay, nổi bật nhất là lời tuyên bố của Chúa Giêsu về chính Ngài là : “Chính

Thầy là con Đường, là Sự Thật và là Sự Sống”. Chúng ta đã được biết về Chúa Giêsu Kitô qua Phúc Âm Thánh Gioan ngay trong phần mở đầu rằng, Chúa Giêsu chính là Ngôi Lời. Ngài chính là Thiên Chúa Ngôi Hai là Con Thiên Chúa từ trời xuống. Ngài là Đấng Thiên Sai, là Đấng Kitô mà Thiên Chúa Cha đã hứa gửi đến để cứu độ trần gian khi ông Adong và bà Evà bị sa ngã phạm tội. Ngài chính là Ánh Sáng, là Tình Yêu, và là Ơn Cứu Độ trần gian.

Để yêu mến Chúa nhiều hơn và vững lòng tin nơi Ngài, chúng ta cần biết qua phương cách cầu nguyện với Lời Chúa trong Kinh Thánh: để hiểu được Lời của Chúa, người học cầu nguyện phải có tâm tình đơn sơ nhỏ bé. Khi suy niệm về Thiên Chúa, chúng ta phải biết khiêm cung, phải trở nên như trẻ thơ thì mới có thể hiểu được những mầu nhiệm cao vời của Thiên Chúa. Hãy mặc lấy tâm hồn trẻ thơ vì Chúa đã phán : “Nước Trời thuộc về cho những ai giống như chúng”. Chúa tỏ Ngài ra cho các môn đệ vì các ngài có tâm hồn đơn sơ chất phát. Chúa tỏ Ngài ra cho các môn đệ vì Chúa và họ có mối dây liên hệ rất thân thương. Khi không hiểu điều gì, các ngài vẫn lắng nghe và để Chúa dẫn dắt từng bước một đi theo Chúa. Chúa là Đường, con đường mà Chúa nói đây không phải như con đường bằng đất mà chúng ta đi theo để dẫn chúng ta đến một nơi, nhưng mà là cách sống, lối sống của Ngài, đời sống yêu thương, hiền lành và khiêm nhường mà chúng ta cần bắt chước nên giống Ngài, và đây cũng chính là con đường dẫn chúng ta đến một nơi mà Chúa Giêsu nói, Ngài đi trước để dọn đường cho các môn đệ: “Thầy ở đâu thì các con cũng ở đó”. Nơi đó chính là Thiên Đàng rất hạnh phúc mà mọi người đều ao ước muốn được nhưng họ không biết làm sao đến được đó, cho nên Chúa Giêsu mới nói chính Thầy là con đường. Chỉ có Ngài mới có thể dẫn chúng ta đến đó. Nếu chúng ta không đi theo Ngài, thì chúng ta sẽ giống như một người đi lạc đường không biết mình sẽ đi đâu hay về đâu, và cứ lang thang sống vất vưởng hết đời mà cũng không biết đâu để mà đi, đến nỗi sau này Thánh Phêrô nói : “Bỏ Ngài con biết theo ai?”

Thánh Gioan cũng nói rằng: “Chúa Giêsu là Sự Thật”. Trong Ngài không có chút gì là gian dối. Gian dối là lừa gạt, là thay đổi. Chúa Giêsu chính là Sự Thật, nên Ngài trước sau như một không bị thay đổi theo thời gian và không gian như chúng ta. Những gì xuất phát từ miệng Ngài không có gì sai trái hay bị thay đổi. Ngài đến để kiện toàn Thánh Ý của Thiên Chúa Cha. Ngài nói trời đất có qua đi, nhưng một chấm một phết sẽ không qua đi cho đến khi mọi sự được ứng nghiệm như lời Ngài đã phán. Nên Lời Chúa đáng tin cậy và sẽ không gây thất vọng cho những ai tin vào Ngài. Nếu chúng ta nói chúng ta tin theo Ngài mà mỗi Lời Ngài phán ra, chúng ta đều phải suy xét nghiên cứu xem có lý với chúng ta không, có lý thì theo và không có lý thì không theo.

Là người Công giáo Việt Nam, nhất là những người đã lớn lên trong một xứ đạo miền Bắc, Trung hoặc Nam, có lẽ họ không lạ gì sinh hoạt tôn giáo trong tháng Năm, tháng Hoa Đức Mẹ. Khi ngàn hoa xanh, đỏ, trắng, tím, vàng nở rộ trong cánh đồng, thì con cái Mẹ cũng chuẩn bị cho những đội dâng hoa, những cuộc rước kiệu, để tôn vinh Mẹ

trên trời. Những điệu ca quen thuộc trìu mến bỗng nổi dậy trong tâm hồn cách thân thương, nhất là bài "Đây Tháng Hoa" của nhạc sĩ Duy Tân với điệu 2/4 nhịp nhàng: "Đây tháng hoa, chúng con trung thành thật thà. Dâng tiến hoa lòng mến dâng lời cung chúc. Hương sắc bay tỏa ngát nhan Mẹ diễm phúc. Muôn tháng qua lòng mến yêu Mẹ không nhòa.

Đến thế kỷ 14, Thánh Philipe đệ Nêri, cũng vào ngày 1 tháng 5, thích tập họp các trẻ em lại chung quanh bàn thờ Đức Mẹ, để cùng các bông hoa mùa xuân, Ngài dâng cho Đức Mẹ các nhân đức còn ẩn náu trong tâm hồn non trẻ của chúng.

Đầu thế kỷ 17, tại Napoli, nước Ý, trong thánh đường kính thánh Clara của các nữ tu Dòng Phanxicô, tháng Đức Mẹ được cử hành công cộng: Mỗi chiều đều có hát kính Đức Mẹ, ban phép lành Mình Thánh. Từ ngày đó, tháng Đức Mẹ nhanh chóng lan rộng khắp các xứ đạo.

Năm 1654, cha Nadasi, dòng Tên, xuất bản tập sách nhỏ khuyên mời giáo hữu dành riêng mỗi năm một tháng để tôn kính Đức Mẹ Chúa Trời.

- Đức Giáo hoàng Piô 12, trong Thông điệp "Đấng Trung gian Thiên Chúa", cho "việc tôn kính Đức Mẹ trong tháng Năm là việc đạo đức được thêm vào nghi thức Phụng vụ, được Giáo hội công nhận và cổ võ".

- Đức giáo hoàng Phaolô 6, trong Thông điệp Tháng Năm, số 1 viết:

"Tháng Năm là Tháng mà lòng đạo đức của giáo dân đã kính dâng cách riêng cho Đức Mẹ. Đó là dịp để " bày tỏ niềm tin và lòng kính mến mà người Công giáo khắp nơi trên thế giới có đối với Đức Mẹ Nữ Vương Thiên đàng. Trong tháng này, các Kitô hữu, cả ở trong thánh đường cũng như nơi tư gia, dâng lên Mẹ từ các tấm lòng của họ những lời cầu nguyện và tôn kính sốt sắng và mến yêu cách đặc biệt. HUYNH ĐOÀN GIÁO DÂN ĐAMINH

Huynh Đoàn Giáo Dân Đaminh Thánh Phanxicô Xaviê Hà Trọng Mậu có phiên họp hàng tháng lúc 1 giờ trưa Chúa Nhật ngày 14-05-2017, tại phòng hội Sullivan. Kính mời các đoàn viên tham dự.

Tập dợt cho các em lớp Thêm Sức và người đỡ đầu sẽ vào thứ Năm ngày 18 tháng 5 năm 2017 lúc 7:00pm tại nhà thờ Thánh Maria Goretti. Thánh Lễ Thêm Sức sẽ vào thứ Bảy ngày 20 tháng 5 năm 2017 lúc 12:00 trưa tại nhà thờ Thánh Maria Goretti.

Vào ngày Thêm Sức, các em học sinh và người đỡ đầu xin có mặt tại hội trường Sullivan Hall lúc 11:00am. Kính mời ông bà và toàn thễ Cộng Đoàn đến tham dự và cầu nguyện cho các em.

Anh Giuse Lê Quang Tấn Phát là con ông Lê Quang Nhật và Bà Lê Thị Năm hiện ở San Jose xin kết hôn với cô Maria Nguyễn Thị Hoàng Oanh là con ông Gioan Nguyễn Văn Thái và bà Anna Trần Thị Đào hiện ở Xuân Lộc, Việt Nam. Nếu ai biết có ngăn trở hôn phối gì thì phải báo cho linh mục giáo xứ biết. Nếu biết mà không báo thì phải mắc tội trọng.

Hội Chợ Hè của Giáo Xứ năm nay sẽ diễn ra vào 3 ngày: thứ Sáu, thứ Bảy, và Chúa Nhật ngày 7, 8 & 9 tháng 7. Những ai tham gia vào Hội Chợ Hè xin đến dự những buổi họp sau đây:

Giáo xứ chúc mừng các Bà Mẹ nhân ngày Hiền Mẫu. Nhờ lời chuyển cầu của Đức Mẹ Maria, nguyện xin Chúa ban muôn ơn lành hồn xác xuống trên những người Mẹ của chúng con. Xin cho các Bà Mẹ luôn là mẫu gương sống động đức tin trong các gia đình về tình yêu thương và lòng đạo đức.
