Fr. John Paul’s Spiritual Brew

W e walk with Jesus into Jerusalem...

into days of praise, betrayal, a last

supper, arrest, torture, and a death

sentence. Not a very attractive

week! So, why do we celebrate it year after

year?! Isn’t there enough darkness in our world

already? Can’t we just skip to the resurrection

and the glory of Easter? After all.. we know this

story... Why bring ourselves down each year?

Passion Sunday leading into Holy Week

reveals the deep passion of a God who wants to

share the depths of his love for his creation. God

holds nothing back in loving us. He is willing to

keep giving through humanity’s rejection,

disobedience, and refusal to open ourselves to his

love. Our God will do whatever it takes to get our

attention, and to turn us.... from hatred to

mercy... death to life... and from sadness to

resurrected joy.... which is transformative.

May our journey through, with, and in

Him.... this Holy Week.... call from us something

that is good, true, and beautiful. “O Lord, I do

believe... Help my unbelief”

The Triduum: “The Three Great Days”

We invite you to share these important and

dramatic liturgies with us at the St. Thomas More

Newman Center. The Triduum celebrations of

Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday -

usher in the great celebration of Easter. Each day

begins with reflective morning prayer at 8am in

the chapel and concludes with a powerful liturgy

‘accenting’ the ‘raising of the pitch’ of God’s love

in Jesus... played out ‘Sacramentally’ for our

benefit and way forward.... Please join us! For

more on the history of the Triduum please see our

Lenten Resource Page on our website at:

www.UACatholic.org/Lent

LENTEN RECONCILIATION SERVICE Tuesday, March 27th at 7PM in the chapel

We will celebrate a Communal Penance Service with a Liturgy of the Word Service and short reflection by one of our student ministers, an Examination of Conscience and

the opportunity to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation with one of several priests.

WHAT IS TENEBRAE? At 8AM on the mornings of Holy Thursday, Good Friday

and Easter Saturday, we gather in the chapel for prayer to chant the psalms of Matins and Lauds along with selected

homilies from the Office of Readings to prepare for the evening liturgies of the Easter Triduum (Three Days). A

candle is extinguished on the candelabra after each of the psalms and the community offers its Solemn Intercessions, calling upon God’s mercy and love during this week called holy. We hope you’ll join us for this ancient prayer service

of the Church that is celebrated in the tradition of the Dominican Order.

MEMORIAL EASTER FLOWER DONATIONS Donations in memory of deceased loved ones can be made

at the office or online at the link in the Stewardship Report. Please include their name(s) in the memo line for a

listing in the bulletin during the Easter Season.
