Gospel Reflection “The Scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery and made her stand in the middle.” The episode of the woman caught in adultery is a powerful story. We have perhaps all felt as the woman has at some point in our lives, surrounded by those who would condemn us. The beauty of Christ’s mercy at the end is clear and a welcome relief as we all struggle to be good and holy people. But have we ever imagined ourselves on the edge of the circle? Have we

pictured ourselves in the sea of dusty robes? Perhaps, we hope, we’re hovering at the edge of the circle of judgement. But we’ve all been there. How easy it is to be righteous when someone else’s reputation is at stake. When the small child is acting up in the grocery store or on the plane—when another company has a scandal break or a major error sets back their profits. Could it be easy to pick up the stone and feel its weight and heft in our hands? Because if we’ve got a stone in our hands, our own righteous category is clear. Our judgment is our insurance that we won’t be on the receiving end of the criticism. If we can’t point out a wrong, surely we are firmly in the right. “Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her … [then] they went away one by one.” This Lent, not only are we invited to receive God’s mercy, but to show God’s mercy. As the season begins to wind to a close, consider those in your life you tend to judge the most harshly. What is one concrete way you can drop your stone?

In Our Parish Communities

Who was St. Paul the Apostle? Why did he write

so many letters to the early church? Do his

letters still have meaning for us today? If you

would like to know the answers to these questions, please join us on Tuesday, April 23 at 7PM in the St. Thomas à Becket School Building. This presentation will be led by Katie Boosel. Katie is a graduate of St. Vincent College and St. Vincent Seminary. She is a Master Catechist in the Diocese of Pittsburgh.

The Parish Share Program is one means by which we can share the Hope of the Church. Parish Share allows every member of our diocesan family to contribute to the ongoing works of our diocesan Church that reach beyond the boundaries of any one individual parish.

The Parish Share Program provides necessary annual operating support for service agencies, pastoral ministries and education programs throughout the Diocese of Pittsburgh. The Parish Share Program supports the charitable works of our Church, as well as our community outreach, and our communications to the media, the Catholic community and to all our neighbors. The Parish Share Program supports Catholic education in our schools and in our catechesis and sacramental preparation programs. It helps to provide for the religious education of adults and ongoing formation of lay parish leaders. Parish Share supports the formation of our diocesan seminarians and our future deacons, as well as the care of our retired priests. At every level, we are called upon to share our time, talent and treasure in a responsive way by sharing the goodness that God has so abundantly given to each of us. Your Parish Share contribution is a way of together carrying on the work of Christ in our diocesan Church. In so many ways, Parish Share is our collective effort to evangelize by meeting the needs of those around us. Thank you for your special effort to share God’s mercy to others in the community through your generous gift to Parish Share 2019. Thank you for supporting the Church On Mission for The Church Alive!

Music at St. Elizabeth On Friday, March 15, two of our Sixth Grade Students, Liliana D’Andrea & Elisabeth Maleski, participated in the District I PMEA Elementary Singfest. This year, the event was held at Quaker Valley Middle School in Sewickley. Our students were selected for this event and had the opportunity to sing with 124 other Fifth and Sixth Graders from around the Pittsburgh area. Our music teacher helped the girls learn the music, which had to be memorized. Congratulations girls!

Also in Music Class, students in Grades 1, 2, 3, and 5 are preparing for the annual Spring Choral Concert. Students began learning their songs at the beginning of March and will continue to rehearse until the concert on Thursday, May 16. We invite all to come to hear our students sing and to hear the Third Grade Students play the recorder. We are celebrating anniversaries this year, so you will hear selections from The Wizard of Oz and Mary Poppins to name a few. Performances are at 1:30PM and 7PM in the gym. Hope to see you there!

SOCIAL CONCERNS A monthly Bereavement Support Group is held on the Second Wednesday of every month from 10:30AM until Noon. Next meeting will be April 10. No need to register. Call Karen Michaux for more information 412-207-1655.

Journey with Jesus

Presented by Eighth Grade Students from St. Elizabeth Elementary School

Monday, April 15 at 1:30PM and 7:00PM

Journey with Jesus, is a prayerful version of the living stations. Each monologue calls the congregation to reflect on the reaction of those who were present on the day of Christ’s crucifixion, and how each of us may have reacted had we witnessed the events of Good Friday. All parishioners are invited to join us for this very special Holy Week devotion.

This is a beautiful way to begin the Easter Triduum, praying as Jesus did prior to His arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane.

All the colorful flowers and lush green plants in our church for Easter, don’t just appear and fall into place. It takes a crew of people to make it look so spectacular. Therefore, we are in need of

volunteers who could help in decorating the Church on the evening of Good Friday, starting at 8:15PM. If you are interested, or need more information, please contact the Church Office at 412-655-2885.

HELP is also needed on Tuesday, April 16 at 10AM to wash and clean all of the glass vigil light holders in the church, shrine and the narthex areas. We will meet in the narthex of the church.
