NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION — NEVER TOO LATE Made a resolution and broken it already? Never made one in the first place? Could not think of something worthy enough of a New Year’s resolution? Well, maybe we could help. We ask you, quite often, for your generous contributions to our St. Vincent de Paul group either in canned goods or in cash. We are also asking you to resolve the donation of time to the St. Vincent de Paul group at our parish. We need volunteers to help deliver food to the needy and are also in need of other volunteers to help deliver utility assistance. If you would like to make this a worthy New Year’s resolution, simply show up at any of their regular meetings. The meetings are scheduled for the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of every month at 7:00 p.m. in the Conference Room (use the Parish Office entrance.) Thank you for considering to help in this endeavor.

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE I bet it was really tough being an Apostle of Jesus. What if you wanted a day off? You would give Jesus a phone call and say, "Jesus, I'm sick today, running a little fever and feeling congested so I won't be able to make it to today's sermon. What...? Say that again...? I'm cured?!" Sigh. You would never have an excuse to miss.

The Pastoral Care Ministry gratefully acknowledges all parishioners, the Altar & Rosary Society, and the Holy Name Society for their generous monetary donations to our ministry. A special thank you to the school children/teachers and the Boy Scouts/Leaders who made Christmas cards and ornaments for the shut-ins and nursing home residents. We would also like to thank the St. Vincent de Paul Youth and STM Youth Group for caroling at the nursing homes. But most of all, to all our Pastoral Care volunteers who took time off from their busy schedule to minister to our sick parishioners at home and the nursing homes to bring them the spirit of Christmas. God bless you all and thank you!!!!

Reverence For The Earth

Do we have a reverence for the earth as God's creation or do we think of it as a planet to be exploited? Do we use the earth's resources to serve others or only for our own comforts? These questions of stewardship define how we are honoring God. Stewardship is not just the use of our time, talents, and treasure for our parish, but good stewardship is how we care for all of God's world and people. Let us all be good stewards and thank God for God's creation.

GETTING TO KNOW YOU

Today is the first day of Ordinary Time. What does this mean to you and me? In one sense it is a quiet time, a time to listen. A time to listen to what God has to say to us. Some of the best advice I ever had came a few years ago from one of my former teachers. I was seeing her for spiritual direction and one day she just looked at me and told me to stop telling God what I could do for Him and start listening to what God might be telling me. It took a while for all the clatter of my mind to quiet down before I could start to listen. God speaks softly most of the time. The extraordinary times that God speaks in a loud voice are few for most of us. God generally speaks to us in whispers. But they are constant whispers that we easily can tune out. In this ordinary time it is a good time to stop and listen to what God is really saying to us. As we listen we may hear extraordinary things that can change our lives. One thing I heard God say to me, if you wait until you are perfect before you start doing my work you will be dead. Quit waiting for perfection and start doing. I love you regardless and I will be there when you fall down and come to me dirty and tired. I will clean you up and let you rest and then let you try again. I love you the way you are; now you love Me the way you are.
