For serving the offshore oil and gas industry, SAL Offshore focuses on:• Transport and installation of deep and shallow water

mooring systems for floating installations such as FP-SOs, FLNGs, TLPs and SPARs

• Transport and installation of deep and shallow water subsea structures such as templates, PLEMs, PLETs and manifolds

• Transport and installation of deep and shallow water spools and jumpers

• Transport and installation of small offshore platform jackets and topsides

The vessels’ large hold and deck capacities allow them to handle these types of installation projects extremely effi-ciently.

The growing challenges of meeting worldwide energy demands have led major oil and gas producers to in-crease exploration with a heavy emphasis on offshore infrastructure. With this global development, SAL Heavy Lift has become increasingly involved in providing transportation solutions to complex (offshore) oil and gas pro jects.

• Ensure customer needs, expectation are determined and ful-filled with the aim of achieving customer satisfaction

• Communicate throughout the organization the importance of meeting customer need and legal requirements

• Create an overall Integrated Management System, in which processes are aligned to including all synergy effects, and to secure and foster the culture of continuous process improve-ment

To fulfil our commitments, we will:

• Maintain a management system structure to improve our Quality Management world-wide and continually improve the effectiveness of this Quality Management System to enhance customer satisfaction as part of SAL Integrated Management System approach

• Ensure that SAL processes are mapped, quality risks are iden-tified, and controls are set

All managers are responsible for ensuring that this policy is communicated, understood, implemented and maintained throughout the organization.

Copies of this policy are displayed at all SAL locations and available to all interested parties.

The SAL Management System will be audited, reviewed annu-ally and revised, taking into consideration changes in legisla-tion or company requirements.

In addition to the objectives defined in our policies, SAL Heavy Lift’s employees receive appropriate training. They also share responsibility for ongoing implementation of our QM and HSSE standards, both on board and ashore.

STRIVING FOR OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE IN HSSE

In line with our SAL HSSE policy, our Marine HSSE depart-ment works to implement these policies in our fleet of ves-sels. By stressing three key aspects – people, processes, and tools – they strive to enable our crews to bolster the culture of safety which thrives at SAL Heavy Lift. This cul-ture involves closely monitoring projects from the planning stages all the way to successful completion. Because of the delicate nature of most heavy lift cargoes, they perform risk assessments, hold toolbox talks and ensure the main-

tenance of critical equipment to optimise safety during loading, sea passage and dis-charge.

HSSE TRAINING AND AWARENESS

To keep our shipboard teams fully informed about the latest HSSE practices, SAL Heavy Lift runs a comprehensive training programme involving regular seminars in Germany and the Philippines. Our crews have the opportunity to provide feedback, both on aspects where we could all im-prove and on improvements which have already been suc-cessfully introduced. Members of the Marine HSSE team frequently board the vessels to carry out and monitor op-erations and training activities and participate in on-board safety committees.

SECURITY / ANTIPIRACY MEASURES

The high incidence of piracy in the Gulf of Aden and adjacent waters poses a persistent threat to onboard safety. To address this, SAL Heavy Lift has devel-oped a comprehensive Best Management Practice (BMP) plan as an emergency guideline. The BMP includes rules for transiting high-risk areas and dealing with actual pirate attacks and hostage sit-uations. All vessels entering the Gulf of Aden are registered for the Internationally Recommended

Transit Corridor, which they traverse for added safety and to facilitate military action if required. The company has developed a set of special precautionary measures to pro-tect crews, vessels and cargo whilst passing through this high-risk area.

HSSE POLICY

SAL Heavy Lift’s goal is to create a working environment such that we cause no harm through injury or illness to people, and where we minimize our impact on the environment. SAL is com-mitted to the prevention of all incidents, injuries, occupational illnesses to our employees, contractors and members of the public. SAL is equally committed to the protection of the envi-ronment.

To fulfil our commitments, we will:

• Have a systematic approach to HSSE management, designed to ensure compliance with laws, regulations and to achieve continuous performance improvement with the pursuit of the goal of zero harm to people

• Promote a culture in which all employees share our commit-ment where our leaders, managers, officers and crew actively demonstrate their commitment to HSSE

• Ensure all levels of management, supervision and employees, are accountable for HSSE performance

• Comply with, and maintain OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001, ISPS, MLC and ISM certification as applicable

• Identify operational hazards and environmental aspects to manage HSSE risks to a level that ensures safety of people, protection of the environment and integrity of our operation

• Ensure that the SAL Safety Values are implemented through-out the organisation and all visitors and sub-contractors are made aware and comply with these. These values empower all employees and contractors to stop any work that is con-sidered unsafe or not in line with HSSE policy, values and pro-cedures

• Mitigate all HSSE deficiencies and non-conformances iden-tified through audits, inspections and incident investigations

• Continually improve HSSE performance by promoting a posi-tive HSSE culture that recognizes individual contributions

• Apply policies and guidelines for HSSE through our manage-ment system

• Require contractors and visitors under our operational control to manage HSSE in accordance with this policy

TYPE 183

DYNAMIC POSITIONING

With its latest generation of high capacity vessels, SAL Heavy Lift continues to push the lifting envelope by intro-ducing a crane capacity of 2 × 1000 t SWL. In addition to this outstanding crane capacity, both heavy lift vessels are equipped with a class-leading Kongsberg Dynamic Position-ing System: While MV Svenja is equipped with a DP I system, MV Lone has a redundant DP II system.

EXTENSIVE SCOPE OF CAPABILITIES

The DP System greatly enhances operations at sea where mooring or anchoring is not feasible due to deep water or congestion at the sea bottom. Offshore support to other ves-sels and facilities as well as offshore windfarm installation are amongst the scope of activities for the two vessels.

FIRST CLASS EQUIPMENT

The DP System manufactured by market leader Kongsberg is designed to keep the vessels within a specified position and predefined heading limits. To optimize the capability of the vessels while in DP mode, careful consideration has been given to the selection of thrusters, switchboards, and power distribution. Mindful of the variety of water depths in differ-ent projects, SAL Heavy Lift decided to install the following reference equipment: DGPS, RADius, Light Weight taut wire and Fanbeam.

OUR FLEET – MODERN AND FAST

Our modern fleet of 16 heavy lift vessels lets us offer our clients highly flexible options.

Our vessels are characterised by a lean structure and there-fore boast an impressive transit speed of up to 20 knots. They also feature up to 3500 m² of unobstructed main deck space and combined crane capacities ranging from 550 to 2000 t.

In July 2014, two Type 116 vessels with the highest ice class and a lift capacity of 900 t were added to the fleet.

All SAL vessels have an extensive range of cargo handling equipment including forklifts, spreader bars, lifting beams, and materials for lashing and securing items. All onboard equipment is approved by DNV GL (or the equivalent).

ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, ENVIRONMENTAL PASSPORTS

SAL Heavy Lift upholds the highest standards in respect of HSEQ: all vessels are certified as conforming to ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001. Type 183, 176 and 116 have Environ-mental Passports in compliance with the highest environ-mental protection specifications.
