Salon opéraOn the occasion of 2016/17 opera premieres, Hotel Bristol – the traditional Viennese hotel vis-à-vis the State Opera – invites opera aficionados to a classical Afternoon Tea includ-ing culinary delights and a glass of sparkling wine five times throughout the coming season. In a dialog with Dr. Thomas Dänemark, Secretary General of the Friends of the Vienna State Opera, the stars of the 2016/17 premieres (singers, conductors and directors) will share interesting details about the relevant produc-tion and performance.

Anlässlich aktueller Opernpremieren lädt das Wiener Traditionshaus an der Oper, das Hotel Bristol, Opernliebhaber fünfmal in der Saison 2016/17 zu einem klassischen Afternoon Tea inklusive kulinarischer Köstlichkeiten und einem Glas Sekt. Stars der aktuellen Premiere (Sänger, Dirigenten, Regisseure) werden im Gespräch mit Dr. Thomas Dänemark, General-sekretär der Freunde der Wiener Staatsoper, Einblicke in die aktuelle Produktion geben und Wissenswertes rund um das Werk und die Aufführung vermitteln.

Glucks späte Oper Armide, die 1777 ihre Urauf-führung in Paris erlebte, basiert auf einem zur damaligen Zeit beliebten Epos von Torquato Tasso. In diesem Drame-Héroique verzehrt sich die Zauberin Armide in verzweifelter Liebe nach dem Kreuzritter Renaud.

Gluck’s late opera Armide, which first performed in 1777 in Paris, is based on a popular epos by Torquato Tasso, enjoying great popularity at that time. In this heroic drama the sorceress Armide is in desperate love with crusader Renaud.

Verdis letzte Oper Falstaff, ein komödiantisches Meisterwerk, basiert auf Shakespeares „Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor“. Die amourösen Ausflüge und Irrfahrten des sich in finanziellen Nöten befindenden Sir Falstaff werden mit viel Witz zelebriert und pointiert im Abschlussge-sang „Alles ist Spaß auf Erden“ zum Ausdruck gebracht.

Verdi’s last opera Falstaff, a comedian masterpiece, is based on Shakespeare’s The Merry Wives of Windsor. The plot revolves around Sir Falstaff, who tries to seduce two married women to gain access to their husbands’ wealth. The whole story is very comical, in the finale everybody sings “Everything in the world is a jest” joyfully.

Das 1853 in Rom uraufgeführte Werk Verdis zählt zweifellos zu den beliebtesten Werken der Opernliteratur. Die Handlung spielt in der ersten Hälfte des 15. Jahrhunderts in Spanien im Königreich Aragón, das sich herrscherlos im Bürgerkrieg befindet. Dieser nimmt eine dominierende Rolle in dem Dramma lirico ein.

Verdi’s opera, which first performed in 1853 in Rome, is without doubt one of the most popular opera works. It is set in the first half of 15th-century Spain in the Kingdom of Aragón, in the midst of a civil war without a leader. The civil war is a dominant feature in this lyrical drama.

Die letzte Oper Wagners wird von vielen als einzigartiger Bühnenmythos verstanden. Dieses Werk, dem der Komponist eine (kunst)religiöse Stilisierung gab, basiert auf Wolfram von Eschenbachs Versroman, der um 1200 verfasst wurde. Die Handlung des 1882 uraufgeführten Bühnenweihfestspiels konzentriert sich auf den für Wagner dominierenden Erlösungsgedanken.

Wagner’s last opera is seen by many as a unique stage myth. The opus, which the composer gave an (artificially) religious style, is based on Wolfram von Eschenbach’s verse novel written around 1200. The plot of this sacred festival drama, which first performed in 1882, emphasizes Wagner’s dominant feature, the idea of redemption.

Claude Debussys „Pélleas et Mélisande“, 1902 an der Pariser Opéra-Comique uraufgeführt, zählt zu den Juwelen der französischen Opernliteratur, die es zwar in der Beliebtheit nie mit Bizets „Carmen“ oder Massenets „Werther“ aufnehmen konnten, deren Reiz aber dennoch unbestritten ist. Neben Debussys impressionistischer Musik macht diesen auch Maurice Maeterlincks Libretto aus, das eine Version des „Tristan und Isolde“ Stoffes aufgreift. Nach 26 Jahren kehrt das verträumt märchenhafte und doch hoch emotionale Werk nun wieder auf die Bühne der Wiener Staatsoper zurück.

Claude Debussy’s Pélleas et Mélisande, which first performed at the Parisian Opéra-Comique in 1902, is one of the highlights among French operas. While never as popular as Bizet’s Carmen or Massenet’s Werther, its great appeal is undisputable, for which not only Debussy’s impressionist music but also Maurice Maeter-linck’s libretto – based on a Tristan & Isolde motif – is responsible. After 26 years the fairy-tale like and highly emotional opus is shown once again at the Vienna State Opera.

Because of the great success in the spring of 2016, the Hotel Bristol invites twice to an interactive and entertaining Opera Brunch for children and their parents/carers as part of the Salon Opéra series in 2016/17.

Heinz Peter Kammerer, ensemble member of the Vienna State Opera and popular Papageno in “The Magic Flute for Children”, will co-host the program with Dr. Thomas Dänemark, Secretary General of the Friends of the Vienna State Opera. The young participants may expect a very special time travel!

Aufgrund des großen Erfolgs im Frühjahr 2016, lädt das Hotel Bristol 2016/17 zweimal zu einem spielerischen und unterhaltsamen Opernbrunch für Kinder und ihre erwachsene Begleitperson im Rahmen der Reihe „Salon Opéra“ ein.

Heinz Peter Kammerer, Ensemblemitglied der Wiener Staatsoper und beliebter Papageno in der „Zauberflöte für Kinder“ wird wieder gemeinsam mit Dr. Thomas Dänemark, Gene-ralsekretär der Freunde der Wiener Staatsoper, durch das Programm führen. Die jungen Teilnehmer erwartet eine Zeitreise der ganz besonderen Art!

Young participants are invited to dress up as pharaoh or Cleopatra (AIDA), or knight or damsel (IL TROVATORE). The best costumes win a prize.

In the course of a make-up workshop from 11:00 am, make-up artists from the Vienna State Opera are ready to apply professional make-up on all those children interested in looking like a theater star themselves. Photos will be taken of the kids that they can take home after the Salon Opéra performance.

The singers of the Vienna State Opera ensemble will sing famous arias live from these popular operas and give an insight into their work onstage. The young audience will have the opportunity to experience many aspects of an opera production.

The playfulness, fun and excitement of this Salon Opéra will fascinate both young and old.

Die jungen Teilnehmer sind eingeladen kostümiert zu kommen. Bei AIDA als Pharao und Cleopatra, bei IL TROVATORE als Ritter und Burgfräulein. Unter ihnen wird ein Geschenk verlost.

Alle, die gerne einmal wie ein echter Bühnenstar aussehen möchten, können sich zu Beginn, ab 11.00 Uhr, im Rahmen eines Schminkworkshops von Maskenbildnerinnen der Wiener Staatsoper, professionell schminken und anschließend fotografieren lassen. Das Erinnerungsfoto können sie am Ende des Salon Opéra nach Hause mit-nehmen.

Sängerinnen und Sänger des Ensembles der Wiener Staatsoper werden berühmte Arien live aus diesen beliebten Opern singen und Einbli-cke in ihre Arbeit auf der Bühne geben. Das junge Publikum hat die Gelegenheit eine Opernproduktion auf vielfältige Art zu erleben.

Spiel, Spaß und Spannung werden bei diesen beiden Salon Opéras Jung und Alt begeistern!

Guiseppe Verdis Oper AIDA spielt im alten Ägypten zur Zeit der Pharaonen. Die Titelfigur AIDA, eine äthiopische Prinzessin, wird als Geisel nach Ägypten entführt. Der ägyptische Heerführer Radames muss sich zwischen seiner Liebe zu seiner Gefangenen und seiner Loyalität gegenüber dem Pharao entscheiden.

Diese weltberühmte Oper, ein Auftragswerk des ägyptischen Khediven Ismail Pascha, ein großer Opernliebhaber der damaligen Zeit, wird interaktiv dem jungen Publikum vermittelt.

Guiseppe Verdi’s opera AIDA is set in ancient Egypt at the time of the pharaohs. The leading character AIDA, an Ethiopian princess, is taken as a hostage to Egypt. Radames, the Egyptian captain of the guard, struggles to choose between his love for his hostage and his loyalty to the Pharaoh.

This world-famous opera, a commissioned work by Ismail Pasha, Khedive of Egypt, a great opera lover of his time, is explained interactively to the young audience.

Diese auf einem historischen Stoff basierende Oper handelt von zwei Männern, die nicht wissen, dass sie Brüder sind und sich einen erbitterten Kampf liefern, sowohl in der Schlacht als auch um die Liebe derselben Frau.

Guiseppe Verdi’s great opera IL TROVATORE is set in 15th-century Spain during the civil war in Aragón. The opera, which is based on historical events, centers on two men who do not know that they are brothers. They fight fiercely both in the battle and for the love of the same woman.
