Leary Democratic candidate for mayor In reply to the questions of tho Reform league Salt Lake City Oct 22 1001 Mr Eugene M Cannon Templeton Block Dear Is a copy of the Democratic platform upon which the nominees of that aarty stand for the suffrages of the people of this city in this campaign Its language Is clear concise and Its scope broad and comprehensive to a com- mendable degree It stands for moral It efficiency econ- omy and cleanliness of all kinds and it also stands for good order everywhere at all times and especially on Sunday- It embraces in its pledges all of the Issues presented by the interrogatories of the affiliated societies for whom you have written and I therefore unhesi tatingly return an affirmative response- to all of the questions submitted ex- cepting only Ne 6 of the category This question relates to ball playing- on Sunday and you ask me if I will frame an ordinance for Its prohibition Permit me to point out that It Is the duty of the council and the city attor- ney to frame ordinances It is the duty of the mayor to execute the law I might evade the question on this ground but I want the people to know Just where I stand on every question- In Issue If I am elected I will carry my promises Into effect and therefore I say If elected mayor I ahall not be in- clined to specially exert my Influence for the passage of such an ordinance because I believe that within proper limits people should be allowed to se lect own form of Sunday recrea tion Nevertheless if such an ordi nance were passed I would enforce it In the absence of such an ordinance and provided that good order in the general acceptation of that term were observed I should not as an official feel called upon to interfere Trusting thaL you will give my reply and that of Salt Lake City Oct 22 1001Mr Eugene M Cannon Templeton

BlockDear Is a copy of the

Democratic platform upon which thenominees of that aarty stand for thesuffrages of the people of this city inthis campaign Its language Is clearconcise and Its scopebroad and comprehensive to a com-mendable degree It stands for moralIt efficiency econ-omy and cleanliness of all kinds and italso stands for good order everywhereat all times and especially on Sunday-It embraces in its pledges all of theIssues presented by the interrogatoriesof the affiliated societies for whom youhave written and I therefore unhesitatingly return an affirmative response-to all of the questions submitted ex-cepting only Ne 6 of the category

This question relates to ball playing-on Sunday and you ask me if I willframe an ordinance for Its prohibitionPermit me to point out that It Is theduty of the council and the city attor-ney to frame ordinances It is the dutyof the mayor to execute the law Imight evade the question on thisground but I want the people to knowJust where I stand on every question-In Issue If I am elected I will carrymy promises Into effect and thereforeI say

If elected mayor I ahall not be in-

clined to specially exert my Influencefor the passage of such an ordinancebecause I believe that within properlimits people should be allowed to select own form of Sunday recreation Nevertheless if such an ordinance were passed I would enforce itIn the absence of such an ordinanceand provided that good order in thegeneral acceptation of that term wereobserved I should not as an officialfeel called upon to interfere

Trusting thaL you will give my replyand that of my opponents to your as-sociations and the public together Iam with assurances of esteem and re-spect faithfully yours
