MOVING FORWARD: Following last night’s 4-3 loss to the
Giants, which snapped their season-high four game winning
streak, the Dodgers look to bounce back tonight and even the
series against their NL West rivals. After the three-game set
against San Francisco, the Dodgers will head south to San Diego
for three contests against the Padres at PETCO Park this
weekend.
The Blue Crew also had their four-game winning streak
snapped at home and dropped to 9-5 at Dodger Stadium
this season. Despite their loss, the Dodgers rank second
best in the National League with a .643 winning
percentage (9-5) at home, trailing only the Arizona
Diamondbacks’ .706 (12-5) mark.
The Dodgers have dropped to 2-6 in one-run games to
begin the 2017 season, after going 22-20 in 2016.
Los Angeles trails the season series against the Giants 2-
3 and have lost six of their last eight games against San
Francisco. However, the Dodgers have had the upper
hand when facing their NL West rivals at Dodger
Stadium, winning 10 of their last 14 games against the
Giants at the Ravine since June 21, 2015.
STREAK NO MORE: After being held hitless in last night’s
ball game, Justin Turner (0-for-4, K) had his career-high and
2017 MLB-high 16-game hitting-streak snapped. During the run,
Turner hit .433 (26-for-60) with six runs, six doubles, a home run
and nine RBI from April 13-30. Despite the end of the streak, he
currently leads the National League in doubles (11, 2nd MLB),
while ranking in the NL’s top 10 in batting average (.387, 3rd),
hits (36, T-2nd), on-base percentage (.447, 6th), multi-hit games
(11, T-4th) and hit by pitches (5, 3rd) in 25 games to start the
season.
COMEBACK TRAIL: Joc Pederson, who was placed on the
10-day disabled list on April 24 with a right groin strain, made his
first rehab appearance for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes last
night going 0-for-2 with a walk and a strikeout as the designated
hitter. Pederson will play again tonight for the Quakes and will
make the start at center field.
Right-handed reliever Josh Ravin also made his first
rehab appearance for the Quakes last night, allowing one
hit and striking out one in an inning of relief. Ravin
started the season on the disabled list with a right groin
strain.
Logan Forsythe plans to play in his first rehab game
tonight with Rancho Cucamonga, as he recovers from a
right great toe fracture. Forysythe, who was placed on the
10-day disabled list on April 19, hit .295 (13-for-44) with
seven runs, two doubles and three RBI along with a .407
on-base percentage in 14 games for Los Angeles.
GOOD WOOD: Southpaw Alex Wood will make his fourth start
of the season tonight, following a stellar outing against the Giants
on Wednesday, allowing just one hit in 6.0 scoreless innings with
five strikeouts. In five games (three starts) for the Dodgers this
season, Wood has gone 1-0 with a 2.29 ERA (5 ER/19.2 IP) and
has held opposing hitters to a .153 (11-for-72)/.238/.236 slashline,
while striking out 19 batters against eight walks.
Despite his 0-2 record in three career starts against San
Francisco, Wood has posted a 3.94 ERA( 7 ER/16.0 IP)
and a 1.25 WHIP. He has struck out 15 batters against
only four walks, while limiting batters to a .250 average
(16-for-64).
THEY CALL IT CODY LOVE: Cody Bellinger, who finished
last night’s contest going 2-for-4 with two runs and a double, has
hit safely in his first four games at Dodger Stadium. During those
games at the Ravine, he has slashed .467 (7-for-15)/.500/.933 with
five runs, a double, two home runs and two RBI. Bellinger’s
batting average in his first four games at home is the second-best
mark in Los Angeles Dodger history during that span, behind only
Willy Aybar’s .471 (8-for-17) average in 2005, while his 1.433
OPS also ranks second best in Los Angeles history behind Yasiel
Puig’s 1.500 mark in 2013.
RELIEVING THE PAIN: The Dodger bullpen tossed 3.0
scoreless, hitless innings last night and have recorded scoreless
appearances in 14 of 27 games this season. The Dodger ‘pen ranks
among the NL’s best in ERA (3.10, 30 ER/87.0 IP, 2nd),
opponents’ batting average (.219, 3rd), WHIP (1.17, 3rd),
strikeouts (99, 3rd), strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.09, 2nd) and fielding
independent pitching (2.68, 1st).
Right-hander Josh Fields, who was recalled from Triple-
A OKC for his third stint with the club prior to last night’s
contest, tossed 2.0 hitless innings of relief and collected
two punch-outs. Fields has tossed scoreless relief in nine
of 10 games for the Dodgers, posting a 1.00 ERA (1
ER/9.0 IP) and striking out 14 batters against only two
walks in nine innings.
Dodger closer Kenley Jansen, who has tossed scoreless
relief in his last eight games (7.2 IP), ranks among NL
relievers in saves (7, T-2nd), strikeouts (16, T-6th) and
strikeout per nine (15.83, 2nd).
