Sandalwood Park News
July/August 2010
From the President: Sandalwood Park Homeowners has another home
for sale. No, we’re not getting into the Real Estate business. But, we have a few lots (shares) left to sell and our goal is to become 100% resident owned. Peter Sturk, 554 Aspen, passed away recently while living on a rental lot. His son, Leon, has chosen to sign over the unit to Sandalwood Park. The Board met by a telephone conference and voted to accept the mobile home. Your board then voted to offer the lot and home for sale for the share price of $50,000. Those who have toured the unit say it’s livable with some improvements. We suggest spending $3,500 to remove it, while salvaging furnishings, and placing a new unit on the lot. It’s another opportunity for all those wishing to be Sandalwood residents. With the current rush of people wishing to join in our fun times, I’m sure it will not be for sale long. Tell your friends! Congratulations to Ralph Puffer on your 75th birthday celebration. I wish we could have been there as I understand all SPH residents are invited. What a great celebration! So, I invite all SPH residents to our house September 25 for a hog roast when Shirley turns 75.
Seriously, if any of you can come to Goshen, IN, you will not be disappointed. Shirley has the band hired and knows how to party! Call her at 574-533-5577 for more information.

SANDALWOOD LIBRARY The summer library volunteers can be seen busy as bees keeping things orderly. Since it is quiet in the Park it appears people are devoting more time
to reading. Activity is pretty heavy and Judy McLochlin along with Janet Wnek and Lois Cottrill keep the books in excellent order making it easy for readers to find what they are looking for. Dorothy Zimmer is in charge of the magazines and does a fine job keeping them current and in order. Most often library user never think that someone has put time in to make things so pleasant to utilize. If you see them in your travels, a thank you might be greatly appreciated.
RACE DAYS The Preakness and Belmont race parties were held in the clubhouse and both were a rousing success. Pizza was served at the Preakness and KFC and trimmings at the Belmont. As usual the betting was intriguing and varied and the big screen was followed closely when the gates were opened and off they went. As usual there were winners and losers but everyone had a good time regardless of the outcome. Needless to say the winner’s smiles were broader. Lois Cottrill is in charge of the races and along with her volunteer helpers always make it a fun afternoon

IN TROUBLE AGAIN Last evening while strolling in the Park at sunset, enjoying my surroundings, I was chased down the street by Ken Cottrill. Since I am only able
to run three paces I was quickly overcome and was chastised for giving his wife Lois credit for selling the 50/50 tickets at Bingo. This is Ken’s job and has always been his job and he is not about to relinquish it to anyone. Ken is a very quiet, pleasant, smiley, unassuming gentleman and he is always such a pleasure to meet when you enter the Bingo hall that it is hard to even notice that he is also selling tickets. My apologies to Ken for leaving him out of the loop, he is a very important part of it for sure. I might add that Ken really wanted no mention of my mistake and was not at all offended by it, but you must realize I must fill these pages and knowing he is a good sport, I took advantage of him. VENICE THEATER — INSPIRATION
If you ever want to have a most inspiring afternoon, catch the Loveland Follies at the Venice Theater next year when it comes around again, Sixty or so challenged adults put on a show that makes you smile, cry and give
exuberant applause. It makes the world seem a better place when you see these performers sing and dance and being so happy to please the audience. One quickly forgets the petty things in our lives. It took many many volunteers to put on the show and accolades go to each and everyone involved. Give yourself a treat and see this show next year, you will be glad you did.

Life in Lee’s eyes
Since the day we got home a series of confused events have taken place. There has been lousy weather almost every day with rain, wind and cold breezes. One day it was hot and we turned on the air conditioner only to find that it was not working. The new air conditioner came last week but who needs it? Of course, hot weather can surprise us immediately and then we’ll be wishing for the cool breezes again. Being an authentic hypochondriac I feel compelled to tell you about my recent medical tests. Our
family doctor is a medical quarterback who sends patients to experts in various fields. So far, since we got home, almost every portion of my body has been examined by somebody. A brain scan a couple of weeks ago was encouraging. The technician actually found a brain, but no word yet from the doctor if it is functioning properly. That has been an ongoing debate in this family for 55 years. My spouse once took a neighborhood straw poll and the vote was a virtual tie so it is operating…..somewhat. You won't believe the next test. A cardiologist at the Heart Institute in Sioux Falls, S.D. has scheduled a heart catheterization to determine if the lung pressure on the right side of the heart is reversible or not. If it is determined that it is reversible a unique treatment is planned........Viagra...... three times a day, according to the participating pulmonologist. That is an interesting option for an 82 year old......even more so for a much younger spouse. Actually, it is not Viagra, but a drug that works very similar to Viagra which will increase the flow of blood from my heart. I think that's a layman's explanation. It is possible that my age will prove the problem irreversible. Think 40.....think 40....think 40. Note from the editor….Hmmmmmm, I heard another resident of Sandalwood may be put on the same drug, a female resident…….I wonder if the scientists and doctors realize what the “side effects” may be from this new treatment???????
