Children’s Poetry Contest (Grades K-6)

Submit your haikus, limericks,sonnets and more for a chance

to win the Santa Clara City Library Children’s Poetry Contest. The contest is open to children in kindergarten through sixth grade. Each entrant may submit one poem of no more than 21 lines, in any form and on any subject. Submit your entries to the Central Park Youth Services Desk no later than Sunday, April 15. We can’t wait to read your best poems!

Volunteer Orientation for Adult Tutors

Read Santa Clara is hostingvolunteer orientations on

Monday, April 23, and Thursday, May 24 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Sycamore Room at Central Park Library. Learn how you can become a volunteer tutor to help an adult gain basic reading, writing and/or math skills. No teaching experience needed. Read Santa Clara provides 12.5 free hours of tutor training to volunteers. The next round of training will be held on June 2-3 and July 7.

Special Event at Mission City Center for Performing Arts

Read Santa Clara, the library’sadult and family literacy

program, will be hosting a fun community celebration on Saturday, April 21, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Mission City Center forPerforming Arts (3250 MonroeStreet, near Wilcox High School). This free event for all ages will feature the City of Santa Clara Dancers performing dances based on beloved children’s stories such as Beauty and the Beast, Annie, Wizard of Oz, Mary Poppins, Alice in Wonderland and more! The first 30 families will get a free children’s book to take home.

SCHacks is back! Ahackathon is the perfect way

to obtain hands-on experience in computer science, make new memories and new friends, and gain valuable skills in programming as well as team work. This event is open to teens of all skill levels. This event will take place off-site at the Santa Clara Teen Center (2446 Cabrillo Avenue). All meals, swag, and t-shirts will be provided at nocost to the attendees. Registration required.
