Benchmarks Customer Workshop Example x86_64-based Virtualization

VMware vSphere 5 Scalability

• VMware virtual machines can scale up via

additional vCPUs.

• With vSphere 5 first 2 tier SD benchmarks

from August 2011 show a decent

scalability up to 24 vCPUs. The

benchmark configured 1 vCPU per CPU

thread (= 2 per core in this case).

• Benchmarks with more than 24 vCPUs

have not been published yet.

• The virtualization overhead in this

benchmark was ~ 6 %.
