Bulletin BoardSaratoga Springs Downtown Business Association Announces11th Annual Saratoga DBA Fall FestivalSARATOGA SPRINGS - The Saratoga Springs Down-town Business Association announces that the elev-enth annual Saratoga DBA Fall Festival will take place on Saturday, October 27, 2011, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. The Fall Festival, a celebration of autumn and Halloween, will kick off on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Farmers’ Market with a ribbon cutting and special guests Mayor Scott John-son, Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, and music by Matthew Boyce “Young Elvis”. The fun will continue all day Saturday throughout downtown Saratoga Springs, including the pumpkin roll down Caroline Street, Twinkle the Bear, pumpkin decorating, face painting, cupcake decorating, traveling magicians, “Sparkles” the Stilt Juggler, a costume parade, clowns, and fun games and trick or treat candy at many of the stores and restaurants. Radio Disney will be at the Collamer parking lot from 11am to 2pm and Dream Ponies and a petting zoo will be there from 11am until 3 pm. There will also be great music by Betsy and the Byegons, Jeff Bribsin, Open Mic for Kids with Rick Bolton and a young Elvis along other areas of Broadway. Cud-ney’s Cleaners will have a “Coats for Kids” collection and distribution from 11am-3pm at the intersection of Broadway and Division Street. They are currently col-lecting coats at all of their locations to be distributed during the Fall Festival. There will be coats for both kids and adults. The fun for kids ends with an exciting Costume Parade starting at 4:00pm at Forno Bistro, 541 Broadway that begins in the parking lot and pro-ceeds down Broadway, led by Twinkle the Bear and the friends of Winnie the Pooh. The Parade ends at the Congress Park Carousel where the Department of Public Works has donated their time so all the kids can take a Carousel ride for free. This unique Hallow-een Celebration encourages families to have fun to-gether, enjoying the hospitality of Saratoga Springs’ businesses and the great spirit of the community. In addition to the downtown celebration the Senior Center located at 5 Williams Street will be hosting a fun event October 25 from 3:30-5. There will be live country music by Los Amigos and lots of delicious fall food. The cost is $3 per person or bring an apple des-sert and get in free! (P)

Blue Ribbon Showcase at Lake Avenue Elementary

SARATOGA SPRINGS - On Saturday, October 20th, Lake Avenue Elementary School invites the commu-nity to a Blue Ribbon Showcase in honor of its rec-ognition as a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School. The event, planned for 3 to 6 p.m. at the school, features exhibits by the school’s clubs and organizations, along with music, games, crafts, face painting and free refreshments. (P)

Dynamic Trumpet and Organ Duo to Perform SARATOGA SPRINGS - The acclaimed Anthony & Beard trumpet and organ duo will combine favorite Baroque selections by Telemann, Purcell, and Pach-elbel with American folk songs by George Gersh-win and Duke Ellington in a diverse performance at Saratoga Springs United Methodist Church on Friday, October 26, at 7:30 p.m. The handicap-accessible church is located off Northway Exit 14 at 175 Fifth Av-enue (corner of Henning Road, across from BOCES). 2012 Twilight Cemetery Tour: Greenridge Cemetery SARATOGA SPRINGS - On SATURDAY October 13, 2012 at 4pm the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation presents the TWILIGHT CEMETERY TOUR. 15Th Annual First Night Saratoga 5K RunSARATOGA SPRINGS - The 15th annual First Night Sara-toga 5K Run, presented by the Saratoga Arts, will be held on Monday, December 31, 2012 at 5:30 PM. The run is limited to the first 1,500 registrants. There is no day of race registration. The race has sold out for the past eleven years. A Chip computerized scoring system will be used. The USA Track and Field certi-fied course starts and finishes on the Skidmore Col-lege Campus. Awards will be given to the top three overall male and female finishers as well as the top three male and female finishers in five-year age cat-egories. All finishers will receive a FIRST NIGHT COM-MEMORATIVE MEDAL. Register by November 23th for the early registration fee of $22 and a guaranteed moisture wicking long-sleeved shirt. Seeking Tax Assistance VolunteersCAPITAL REGION – TaxAide, the free income tax assis-tance program sponsored by AARP Foundation and the IRS, is seeking volunteers for the coming tax sea-son. TaxAide volunteers answer questions and pre-pare and file returns for low to moderate-income tax-payers and seniors from February 1 to April 15 at sites in the Capitol District. First Night Saratoga Seeks VolunteersSARATOGA – Saratoga Arts is seeking volunteers to assist in overseeing First Night Saratoga, the region’s largest New Year’s Eve celebration of the arts and community. Volunteers will serve as hosts and host-esses in one of over 30 venues, for a chosen 3-hour shift between the hours of 6pm and 11:40pm. Sponsor-A-Scholar Seeks Mentors SARATOGA SPRINGS –Saratoga Sponsor-A-Schol-ar (SSAS), a not-for-profit organization in Saratoga Springs, is seeking volunteer mentors for Saratoga Springs High School students enrolled in the SSAS program. The organization, whose goal is to help academically motivated, financially disadvantaged students complete high school and graduate from college, inducted its fifth class of scholars last June. Green Ribbon School InitiativeSCHUYLERVILLE – Hudson Crossing Park (HCP) and Schuylerville School District are partnering up to join a national movement (http://www.greenribbon-schools.org/news)to earn Green Ribbon status for the school. With a start-up grant from The Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region’s Community/Land Pres-ervation and Planning Fund, HCP has hired a part-time Green Ribbon School Project Director to assist the school in assembling teams of parents, teachers, students, and staff who will provide leadership for various projects and issues. The goals of the initiative are to promote environmental literacy in teachers and students, “green” the campus and its opera-tions, encourage outdoor learning and exploration, and promote health and fitness in the school com-munity.
