ELECTRODE REGULATION SYSTEM ELECTRODE REGULATION SYSTEM Sarralle has developed a new electrode regulation sys- tem based on the experience accumulated over this company’s 50 years where it has invested all its know- how on regulation with the assistance of state-of-the-art technologies within our reach. The result being a new system designed by and for ste- elworkers representing an important quantitative leap in relation to systems extant in: Reduction of Pon Increase in MW Reduction of KWH/ton Electricity in steel manufacture via electric arc furnace cu- rrently represents between 12 and 18% of operation cost. After raw materials, energy cost is second place in terms of magnitude. One of the major priorities from the engineering viewpoint of the steelworks process is centred on reduction of these two costs. Based on equipping the steelworker with a bet- ter tool than those extant on the market, Sarra- lle has developed an electrode regulation sys- tem based on electrical parameter acquisition at very high frequency to control electrode mo- vement more accurately than existing equipment. This equipment enables optimisation of power delivery adjusting it to existing conditions. With the experience developed in these last 45 years, Sarralle has developed its own regulation system called Sarcon, in which it has invested all the Know How acquired over this period, in addition to all the technical innovations within our reach. The system placed on the market now enables: Power On reduction Electrode consumption reduction Energy consumption reduction Refractory consumption reduction Productivity increase I.e. it aims to optimise EAF transformation costs. SARCON Sarralle has developed the fastest data acquisition regula- tions enabling better information recollection to regulate the system. • Moreover it enables the setpoint to be delivered to hydrau- lics to optimise power delivery to the existing mechanical or hydraulic design. • Regarding design, Sarralle proposes a system based on com- mercial hardware, of proven robustness, facilitating customer maintenance since there are no electronics dedicated to other system obliging one to resort to a very high stock of electronic elements • Great database capacity for historical data storage. • Comparative data on the development carried out in a fur - nace of 150 tons with a transformer of 125 MVA reflect 2 minutes won in Pon and an increase in average power 4 MW. The system assembled is able to read 100 samples of current and voltage in each cycle at 20 m.sec, enabling us to plot a complete curve, which is being gene-rated in the furnace.

Thus, we can study all the wave components, in-tensity, voltage in addition to the distorsions the-reof and echoes.

The system has not only been considered for Sarralle designed and built equipment, known for their robustness and reliability in power delivery, but likewise for other designs not so robust and therefore not affected by vibrations and echoes when subjected to relatively fast movements.To do this, Sarcon allows adjustment of the exit interval of the electric signal to the servo valve to prevent the creation of nega-tive echoes for the equipment.
