After each of these coaching sessions we had breakout sessions involving all Rotary clubs in the Cluster. “Never let a good crisis go to waste”

This aphorism has been attributed to Winston Churchill during World War 2. The COVID19 is a unique crisis in our times, which has amongst many other things challenged how we undertook training in our Rotary District. After many brainstorming sessions with DG Andy we came up with the following strategies:

We abandoned the term “Training” and replaced it with “Coaching”. As Rotary coaches we seek to enable all Rotarians in our District to realize their goal to do “good in the world”. There is no set training program that suits all Rotarians. Instead we have listened to the needs of Rotarians (many of whom are new Rotarians) and adapted our coaching to assist these Rotarians.

This year DG Andy empowered 10 Assistant Governors as 2nd tier District Leaders to be the "Go To" person for club Presidents and members in the respective clusters. DG Andy introduced "Cluster 10" for the new clubs we formed in the past 2 Rotary years, as these new comers to Rotary need special mentoring and support.

DG Andy and I have had regular Zoom Cluster meetings with the Assistant Governor and Cluster Presidents to support these Rotary Leaders during COVID19 restrictions. This resulted in 50/54 Rotary Clubs continuing to meet by Zoom. Since 1st July our membership has increased by 45.

Because of COVID19 we were unable to have our District Training Assembly. Instead we have had targeted coaching “face to face” with Rotarians in each cluster. Cluster Muster has occurred on the Gold Coast, Jimboomba and in November in Warwick. When NSW/QLD border restrictions are relaxed we will have Cluster Musters in Maclean, Casino and Mullumbimby.

Topics discussed include “All you need to know about Rotary; All you need to know about Rotary Membership; Why Public Relations are important for your Rotary Club; and “Enjoy Rotary - Grow Rotary”. After each of these coaching sessions we had breakout sessions involving all Rotary clubs in the Cluster. One outcome has been that the clubs in each cluster have been enthused in cooperating in joint projects and social activities.

The coaching sessions have been videoed and will soon be available on YouTube. New Coaching sessions on the Rotary Foundation and Rotary Youth programs are being developed to commence in November. So, if you haven’t been to a Cluster Muster, then sign up now.

Breaking News! Australia's Top 10 Growth Clubs

Let's celebrate. The Top 3 Growth Clubs and the fastest growing New Rotary Club in Australia are in our Rotary District 9640! It's not easy to get to the Top. But staying at Top is a skill.

Congratulations to the members, Club Presidents and Immediate Past Presidents Cameron Bolton & Caitlin Reed of Tenterfield, Melissa Neilson and Rowan Johnstone of Gold Coast, Joe Wilkinson and Pru Berry of Hope Island, and Charter President Candice Olivier of Gold Coast Passport for bringing this honor to our district in this 100th year of Rotary in Australia. Ballina-on-Richmond club led by Dave Harmon will soon join this leader board.

With their leadership and enthusiasm of our entire current club Presidents, our District is the highest growth Rotary District in Zone 8 consisting of 14 countries. Australia New Zealand and 12 Pacific Islands. Together can we grow every club in our district by just +1 to stay at the top! Over to you club Presidents.

Our district with 34% of female

CLUSTER 8 MUSTER TRAINING 16 AUGUST JIMBOOMBA

It was great to see all clubs represented and a good opportunity for Rotarians to meet and welcome Warwick Sunrise and Allora clubs into our Cluster as of this year. One of the most valuable opportunities from the day, was for discussions between the clubs to determine how they could work together more collaboratively as a cluster. - AG Cara Champion, Fassifern Valley Rotary

The real benefit was engaging with the other clubs. It is good to have Allora and Warwick in the cluster it makes sense geographically for us to be together one group. There is plenty of potential for interaction with and between the clubs, especially on the western side of the cluster.” - Peter, Boonah Rotary Club

I was inspired by the speakers and in particular Andy’s vision for 9640. As

a small but dedicated Club (16 members) we hope we can live up to

playing our part in Andy’s vision. - Neil Summerson - Fassifern Valley

Rotary & former CEO of Bank of QLD

Global Grants – ‘Power of Collaboration’ Grant for US$67,328 is approved.

Congratulations to our Rotary Clubs of Broadwater Southport, Gold Coast, Hope Island, and Lismore for collaborating to build a water irrigation system in Guatemala. This project will help the farmers that survived El Fuego volcano eruption and continue to grow food, develop a demonstration and training area to teach about more sustainable and resilient agricultural practices in El Rodeo. This is a high impact project. This month the Foundation approved the Global Grant. Our 4 clubs raised US$10,000 and our District contributed US$20,000 from our DDF. The host is Rotary Club of Escuintla in Guatemala.

If you have ideas for a Global Grant please discuss with District Grants Chairman PDG Glenn Wran email;[email protected]

Who Wants to be a District Governor?

Leaders are made not born. It's the leadership opportunities we are offered in life that will develop our mindset and heartbeat to be a leader.

We have been the "Number 1" Rotary growth District in Australia in the past 3 years. If we are to hold on to this position we need the best leaders to lead our members and clubs into a new post-pandemic future. As the first District Governor to lead our Rotary district out of a pandemic, Andy is passionate to find and coach a team of future leaders to take our district to even greater heights. This is what Apple, Google, Shell, General Electric, Nike, McDonald's, Starbucks, Coke and Pepsi do to stay on top of the game.

Andy is planning a series of 5 Zoom Workshops to help aspiring future leaders to understand the role and scope of a Rotary District Governor in a new world. If you have the will, DG Andy has the time to coach you. It's only for Rotarians who have not been a District Governor. This will be a high impact information session if you want to be a Rotary District Governor one day. We already have our District Governors elected till 1st July 2023. You can be a Rotary District Governor only once in your lifetime.

So grab this opportunity now! Say YES to Leadership beyond your club! Below are the 15 Topics covered. Email Andy directly at; [email protected]

1) How do you qualify to be a District Governor? 2) 4 Rotary District roles that will make you an effective Governor! 3) 5 Questions you must know to answer 4) 6 tips on how to select your District Team 5) How to prepare your district budget 6) Art of Delegating & Empowering 7) What expenses do RI & District reimburse a Governor? 8) What RI Training is available for a future District Governor? 9) The roles of the GTrain and District Leadership Team 10) Managing dual roles of DG and ASIC Company Chairman (unique to D9640) 11) Blending with your fellow Governors in Australia & New Zealand in Zone 8. 12) 5 Tips for smart use of rotary.org to appoint Assistant Governors, set club goals, access RI reports on clubs and rate clubs. 13) Leading high powered volunteer teams 14) Planning, budgeting and handling club visits 15) Public Speaking & PowerPoint Presentations
