THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS: SATURDAY 27 TH OF AUGUST 2016 A GRADE (DIVISION 1) - ROUND 18 ROUND 18 Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 PAOC 4.2 26 5.5 35 8.8 56 13.10 88 PORT DISTRICT 5.3 33 10.4 64 16.6 102 19.9 123 GOAL KICKERS: Brendan Papps and Karl Siebels - 3 each; Tom Ashby - 2; Cam Pritchard, Brad Coles, Will Dalwood, James Dalwood and Drew Clayfield - 1 each BEST PLAYERS: Mitch Wicks, Adam Perryman, Drew Clayfield, Tom Brinsley, Will Dalwood and Cam Pritchard COACHS REPORT: Firstly, congratulations to the ‘C’ and ‘E’ grades on making Grand Finals. Good luck Breals and Marshy and all the boys involved. Now, having been guaranteed top spot before last weekend’s game, this round for us was all about experimenting and giving some opportunities to certain players in different roles. Whilst we were disappointed to not win the game, the bigger picture for the ‘A’ grade starts now as we begin building towards our first final in 2 weeks’ time. Make no mistake, Port District are a very good team - and they have been the ‘in form’ side in the competition for the last 5 or so weeks and kicking some very big scores. We knew it was going to be a very tough day and I am sure that there are some very happy teams playing finals knowing that Port District will not be playing finals! To everyone that has had a hand in helping out - in either a large or small way - during the year I would like to personally thank you for all your efforts. To have both the ‘A’ and ‘B’ grades finish Minor Premiers is absolutely fantastic and sets both teams up for a run at the Holy Grail. Boys the hard work starts now!!!

COACH’S REPORT:

Last Saturday was an exciting day for the club with two sides fighting for a spot in ‘the big dance' as well as the A's and B's playing their last minor round games of the year. The importance for the B grade was high - wanting to play to our standards and expectations with a week off before our first final in mind.

We started slowly into the wind and went into the first break fairly even. I felt that, defensively, we were average early on, with too many slipped tackles and allowing too many gaps in our press before fixing these issues somewhat late in the quarter.

With the aid of a solid sea breeze in the second quarter we took control, looking to isolate Jack Prest and Chris Hannemann as much as possible up forward.

In the second half, we were able to free up Nick Mosey thanks to Port District's defensive mindset which led to them controlling the middle part of the ground but, across half back, we quelled the vast majority of their forward movement. It was a good chance to increase the workload for Fraser Ellis in ruck and give James Prest some time in there too. In the last quarter we put the result beyond doubt early - with Josh Morrell controlling things at ground level in the forward 50 and Ben Siebels racking up touches in his best game in the B's so far.

It's worth mentioning that we had four boys up from last week’s ‘D’ grade team to fill a void left by the five outs we had for various reasons. All were enthusiastic and played an important role to ensure that we secured the win, which was great. It speaks volumes of the club’s impressive depth of talent.

We’re now looking forward to having a few tough and specialised training sessions so as to prepare and ready us for our opponent in a fortnight, whomever that might be.

COACH’S REPORT:

Last Saturday witnessed a very solid, 4 quarter performance by the Reds in the ‘C’ Grade Preliminary Final against St. Paul’s at Park 10.

After a very tight and rugged first quarter we held a very slender 2 point advantage at the first change. This was followed by some explosive, full-on, attacking and truly Reds style football at the start of the second term which saw us slam on 6 goals to only 1 by St. Paul’s in the second quarter to take full control of the game by the long break - those 6 goals having been kicked in the first 6 minutes of the second quarter!

Spurred on by some spirted support from the sidelines, the boys kept the pressure up right until the final siren and finished the game off with a very comfortable 52 point victory.

We are very much looking forward to taking on the undefeated Salisbury West in the Grand Final and adding them to the long list of teams that only drop one game for the entire season!!!

E GRADE (DIVISION 7 RESERVES) - PRELIMINARY FINAL

PRELIMINARY FINAL Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4

PAOC 4.2 – 26 8.2 – 50 13.6 – 84 17.9 – 111

ADELAIDE UNIVERSITY 0.1 – 1 1.6 – 12 2.6 – 18 2.9 – 21

GOAL KICKERS: Tom Vasileff - 7; Tom Simpson - 3; Lucas Lovell - 2; Paul Russo, Cameron Burfield, Tom Ricci, Nick ‘Roopa’ Martin and Ben Vidic - 1 each

BEST PLAYERS: Tom Vasileff, Lucas Lovell, Tom Simpson, Will Wood, Hugo Chapman and Alfie ‘Smooth Operator’ Brown

COACH’S REPORT:

Last Saturday witnessed a dominant performance by the ‘E’ Grade Reds.

From the first bounce the players were switched on and they both set the standard and maintained the work rate for the remainder of the game. 17 goals to 2 really says it all.

The Reds were better suited to the conditions and this helped with our ball movement & pace over the entire ground. A very well deserved spot in the grand final awaits this Saturday.

Our best players could have come from a pack of at least 12. Winners excelled on every line and an excellent game was played by all who worked through the midfield.

A special mention goes to Tom Vasileff and Tom Simpson for their excellent work up forward.

It will be a tough night at selection this week and I sincerely hope that Alex Glover recovers from the shoulder injury he suffered during the third quarter.

It’s never easy when selection results in players missing out. I understand only too well players’ disappointment - but I hope that they get to the game on Saturday & support their team mates.

There are many players who contributed during the season and everyone who took to the field for the ‘E’ Grade team is (and should feel) a part of the team’s progression to the Grand Final - not least to captain Nick Pemberton, Mark McGregor, Tyson Smith, Ben Newbery, Scott Tyndall, Brad Weidenhofer and Tom Prest.

Good luck Saturday.
