Disney’s The Little Mermaid is a big splash of a family musical with eye-popping musical numbers and an award-winning score. A beautiful young mermaid named Ariel longs to leave her home to live in the world above. Her father, King Triton, forbids contact with the people on land, but when Ariel falls in love with human Prince Eric from afar, she makes a deal with her father’s sister and enemy Ursula to be temporarily transformed into a human. If she wins the kiss of true love from her prince within three days, she’ll remain human! Will Ariel give up her fins and win her prince? Twenty seven years after the release of Disney’s animated film, this love story continues to capture the hearts of young and old alike. Featuring the music audiences have grown to love, including “Part of Your World,” “Kiss the Girl,” and the Academy Award-winning “Under the Sea,” Disney’s The Little Mermaid continues the Civic’s tradition of family friendly musicals to bring in the holiday season! PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP Disney’s 'The Little Mermaid' Audition Workshop Time: 1:00 PM-4:00 PM Location: The Carver Center Teaching Artists: TBA, Brent Decker For Ages: Adults & Youth (Ages 13 and up) The Artistic Team will lead you “under the sea” to prepare for your Disney’s The Little Mermaid audition. After you learn about the fantastical concept for the show, you will be coached on proper vocal support and we will teach the two vocal selections that you will have the chance to choose from for the audition. (You read that correctly—you do not need to bring in a song to sing for this audition—you will be taught two pieces to choose from!) Then participants will work with the director on acting through song interpretation including intention and motivation. To close out the workshop, the choreographer will teach movement that will be used at the audition potentially including weight sharing, underwater movement, and tap. There is a lot to cover so register as soon as possible since space is limited!
