Background:30 November 2010: Planning Application signs posted in Dimmeys shop windows and external walls, Green St &

Byron St. For 10 Storey High Rise Glass Tower Development. [Latest Planning Application].

1st October 2010: Yarra City Council (Vic) posted on its website that an application had been received for an Eleven (11) Storey Residential Tower from developer Richmond Icon Pty Ltd. Council asked developers to reduce height of

tower to 10 Storeys.

In August 2010: Heritage Victoria received plans from the developer Richmond Icon Pty Ltd for a single residential apartment tower of Eleven (11) storeys on the Dimmeys site. Heritage Victoria made a decision on 26 August 2010

to Grant a PERMIT for an 11 Storey Tower. [The developer also needs a planning permit from Yarra City Council because it has a Heritage Overlay on the DIMMEYS site].

PETITIONWe the undersigned hereby submit and PETITION Yarra City Council that the application to demolish the rear and interiors of DIMMEYS DEPARTMENT STORE (Heritage Place No. H2184), mutilation of the mural, and construct a Ten (10) Storey High Rise Glass Tower SHOULD BE REFUSED, and formally OBJECT TO THE GRANT OF PLANNING PERMIT to Richmond Icon Pty Ltd. PLN10/0734.

The proposal will result in an unacceptable loss of heritage fabric, while the revised plans for Ten (10) Storeys is again repetition of unacceptable bulk on the heritage site.

The proposal would diminish the amenity of the Swan Street shopping precinct, and demean the landmark Dimmeys Clock Tower, and establishes a new Richmond Icon tower in the area.

The Richmond Icon Pty Ltd tower is incompatible as it stands beside and contests with the heritage Dimmeys Clock Tower.
