Government InitiativesThe Supreme Court of India has banned all kinds ofclear-felling in the forests of India from 1996 onwards,

which has resulted in greater protection and a decreasing trend of deforestation.

The Biodiversity Act, 2002 primarily focused on the conservation of biological

resources by facilitating access to local communities by sustainable approach.

The National Environment Policy, 2006addressed the issue of empowerment of the localcommunities to avoid forests from becoming open

access in nature and degrading gradually.

NATIONAL GREEN TRIBUNALEstablished on 18th august 2010 under

the national tribunal act 2010.For effective and expeditious disposal

of cases relating to environmental protection and conservation of forests and other natural resources including enforcement of any legal right.

Tribunal is mandated to make and endeavor for disposal of filling of the applications within 6 months of the same.
