Alternative Energy,, Alternative Fuels, Sustainable Farming and Garden Advisor Courses Taught by the Alternative Energy Department at NTCC Profitable Small Farm Business 1 (Individualized Instruction on Campus or Distant Learning delivery format) Open Enrollment This Course delivered as individualized classes to help beginning or experienced small farmers to develop a sustainable and profitable operation on a few acres. The classes are on-going as needed and can be taken as distant learning program with one-on-one instructor contact. Cost is $15 per 2 hour class. The first Class will have an additional textbook cost.

Solar Classes for Summer at NTCC The following courses, HART 1093, Solar Thermal Installers Course and ELMT 1002, Solar Photovoltaic

Installers Courses will be taught eight hours Monday through Friday plus an eight hour laboratory exercise

on Saturday. The course would be attractive to licensed electricians, licensed heating-air conditioning

technicians, construction contractors, plumbers, building officials, government employees, building

professionals, current enrolled students, underemployed seeking a green profession, serious High School

students over 16 years old and other interested parties. A mechanical, mathematic aptitude and a high

level of physical ability, as well as no problems with heights are necessary to enter the intended workforce.

Job entry level pay has been $14 to $16 per hour in Texas.

Solar Thermal Installers Course -HART 1093 - June 6,- June 11, 2011 - 8AM to 5 PM . Tuition $319

Solar Photovoltaic Installers Course ELMT1002 - July 11- July 16, 2011 - 8 AM to 5 PM Tuition $319

Attendance or make-up is required before a certificate is awarded. The Courses may be taken separately or

students can register for both Courses. Tuition - $319

The required textbook is in a three ring binder for the Solar Thermal Course is included in the tuition-fees

($12.00 value). A recommended optional textbook at ~$24.75 plus tax, titled, Solar Water Heating, Bob

Ramlow, ISBN: 978-0-86571-561-5 is suggested for pictorial diagrams. Students must purchase the Solar PV

Installers Course textbook, Photovoltaic Systems, second edition, with CD, James P. Dunlop, ISBN: 978-0-

8269-1308-1, priced at $90 plus tax.

Students are asked to bring either a laptop computer or scientific calculator to each class and provide a

three ring binder for the Solar PV Installers Course. A three ring binder is provided for the Solar Thermal

Installers Course. All handouts will be punched. Students will need internet access and an email address

(available with registration). Registered students will be provided access to the Course’s BlackBoard

internet link.

The final examination will be the NABCEP1 certification practice exam and it will be scored PASS or FAIL

based on NABCEP expectation. Students must receive a PASS score to complete the course. The final can be

repeated until students receive a passing score. The final grade will be on performance (task competencies)

of the laboratory objectives, individual oral response to the instructors review during the laboratory

exercises and satisfactory team interaction during the final laboratory exercise.

Instructor: Jim Wylie, Alternative Energy Project Manager, will be the principle instructor for both courses. He is an experienced vocational (workforce) instructor with specialized training in solar systems installation, alternative fuels and alternative technology. He taught solar energy courses during the national crisis in the ’70-‘80’s and during the current national energy difficulties. His instructional format is competency based, practical and applicable to Texas workforce skills in the Green Industry. He is available during office hours at the Northeast Texas Community College EHW Agricultural Complex, Room A109, Monday through Thursdays, 8 AM to 6 PM and Fridays till noon when not in the classroom. Mental Health Peace Officer Presentation of the knowledge and skills necessary to become certified as a Mental Health Peace Officer. Topics include Mental Health Peace Officer duties and training, mental disorders, indicators of mental illness, understanding mental illness, handling a person in acute phase of mental illness, the law and liability issues, documentation, safety and assessment, intervention in high and low risk situations. Sexual Assault General principles of conducting a sexual assault investigation including proper evidence handling. Crisis Intervention – Intermediate The purpose of the Intermediate Crisis Intervention Training course is to educate law enforcement officers about issues pertaining to crisis intervention techniques, especially in communicating with persons with a mental illness. An additional component relating crisis intervention training to general crisis situations is also included in this instructor outline.
