soccer and AFL teams in 2016 and has taken all

Celebrating Achievement, Effort and Service
Service to School
Year 6 Sports Captains and Vice Captains received their ‘Service to School’ medallions last week at
the 3-6 primary assembly. They are to be congratulated for their service throughout the year.
Pictured L –R: Olivia Bird, Maddie Hunter, Ashley Bulsara, Sam Wootton, Calum Adams,
Alistair Begg, Saxon Penberthy, Tom Allport, Harry Pagg, Holly Richmond,
Alex Bezuidenhout, Hamish Batty.
Absent: Taylor Brickwood, Emma Odgaard Bailey, Haylie Fisher, Georgie Alexander
Sydney Writers’ Festival
On Monday 14th November, Mrs Fuller and Mrs Glazebrook had the privilege
of taking 30 budding writers and illustrators to the Sydney Writers' Festival.
There we were entertained and enthralled by the talents of James Foley,
Cheryl Orsini, James Roy and R. A. Spratt.
They provided lots of great information of how to build on ideas and we are
sure to see some fantastic writing from these students in the years to come.
Natasha Watson 6R is this year’s recipient of the Primary School Community
Service Award from the Rotary Club of the Lower Blue Mountains.
From Mr Riedy: ‘Natasha has had an incredible year. She has followed our
school core values, been respectful, shown excellence always, participated
courageously and served others in the way she has conducted herself
throughout the year.
Natasha has been part of the Blaxland East School leadership team this year
and has set an outstanding example in this role. She has tried out for every
sporting opportunity available to her and has represented the Blue Mountains
Zone in a range of sports.
She has made an incredible seven Sydney West Rep teams. While she is an
incredibly talented sportswoman what sets Natasha apart is the way she is so thankful to her coaches,
parents and fellow players. Every time I have been involved with Natasha she is humble, congratulates
the other team and her own players and always thanks her coach for the opportunity to participate and
the time they have given up.
Natasha is also a member of the Blaxland East concert band where she plays the trumpet and has
been part of the school dance group.
She has recently volunteered at Riding for the Disabled where she goes and helps saddle horses,
clean up the arena and even shovels horse poo, certainly not something many students are prepared
to do in their free time.
Natasha has been a member of the Opportunity Class at Blaxland East for the past two years, where
she has taken on academic challenges that have stretched her academically. At times she has found
the work difficult but she never gives up and perseveres with challenging tasks.
The one goal that she has failed to achieve this year is to
become taller than me. Although I was worried for a while
there.
Natasha has been an absolute pleasure to teach for the last
two years and is a thoroughly deserving recipient of this
prestigious award’.
Congratulations Natasha!
Congratulations to Natasha Watson!
Celebration Concert
On Tuesday November 22 the annual Celebration Concert was held at the
Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre in Penrith. Wow! What a great night it
was.
For a little more than two hours the absolute best performing artists that BEPS has to offer showed us
all what amazing talent they have.
The band, choirs and dance groups performed beautifully, the K-2 item was just sensational and 6R’s
Five Years Old left many in tears.
Our whole school finale We’re All in This Together (re-written by Lavinia Loscialpo) was a sensational
end to a fantastic evening. Special mentions must go to all our year six individual and small group per-
formers who stepped up on the night (in order of appearance)–
Elora Brown, Isabella Lockett, Taylor Brickwood, Heidi Wood, Olivia Bird, Holly Richmond, Louise
Bowerman, Rachel Baker, Nikolai Miller, Keely Gray, Shianna Kay, Anders Ernest, Kerri Muhlmann,
Ethan El Fadle, Mark Babadzhanian, Dominic Hart, Sophie Chapman, Lavinia Loscialpo and
Ashley Bulsara.
(Continued on page 7)
Celebration Concert—continued!
Extra special mention to our school captains Sophie Chapman and Ben Watson who
not only took part in many of the performances, but hosted the entire night from be-
ginning to end.
Well done all!
Special thank you to Heather Smith (Mrs Przydacz's
mum) who cleverly sewed the reindeer onesies for the
Celebration Concert. They were a perfect fit and
looked amazing on the stage.
I'm sure we will be
seeing the costumes
re-appear for many
years to come.

Kindy Transition
Kindy 2016 have joined Stage 2 and Stage 3 for sport when Kindy 2017 have been visiting.
They loved sport with the big kids especially dancing to Simply Irresistible with Stage 3 as seen here
with Holly Richmond surrounded by Kindy dancers grooving to the beat.
High School Transition
Twelve Year 6
students from
BEPS were given
an opportunity to
attend extra high
school transition
experiences.
Four visits to Blaxland High
School were organised on
Tuesdays leading up to next
week’s High School
Orientation on the 6th of
December and grade visits on
the last two Wednesdays.
Experiences included a tour of the grounds and
classrooms, meeting BHS staff including Year 7
advisor Ms Taylor, classroom teachers, executive,
office staff and significant student groups.
Students were also
involved in
demonstration lessons
including cooking, PE,
music, art, ‘hands on’
science experiments,
rehearsals of BHS
musical Miss Saigon
and woodwork where they made their very own
door stop.
A huge number of pizzas were consumed for
lunch on the final day.
They were free and enjoyed by all.
To parents who transported students to the
high school, your willingness and availability
to assist was much appreciated.
Year 6 Fun Day
Our Year 6 Fun Day was a brilliant success. On what turned out to be a very hot day, Year 6 worked
tirelessly to set up, run and pack up a wide variety of fun activities. There was a haunted classroom
to scare you, bottle flip to test your skills and face painting to make you look beautiful. A big thank
you to everyone who participated and made a contribution to the Year 6 gift to the
school. Congratulations to Year 6 for your hard work before and on the day, particularly the clean up.
BEPS Students’ Success at Cheerleading Nationals
Last weekend many of BEPS students trav-
elled to the Gold Coast to compete as a part
of the Fanci Footwork Cheer and Dance
team in the Cheerleading Nationals.
The Australian All Star Cheerleading Federa-
tion Nationals is the 3rd largest Cheer and
Dance competition in the world with over
10,000 competitors!
Fanci Footwork is a silver sponsor of our
school that is run by our school Dance teach-
er, Mrs Natasha Shandler and the teams they
took to AASCF Nationals contained many
BEPS students.
FFDC had a very successful
weekend at Nationals with
teams bringing home 3 National
1st place titles, a 2nd, a 3rd and
a 5th place.
The FFDC Mini Dolls team that
came 1st and are 2016 National
Champions has a total of 13
team members, 8 that are
BEPS students.
We could not be prouder of
everyone of our BEPS students
and the amazing way they rep-
resented FFDC at the AASCF
Nationals 2016.

Principal’s Report
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Well, we are at the end of the term almost and there
are only two weeks till the Christmas holiday break.
Last week I had the privilege of sitting in the audience at the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts
Centre and watching the students from BEPS participate courageously, demonstrate excellence,
serve others and be respectful as they played, sang, danced and recited their way to an excellent
performance.
A huge thank you to all the behind scenes staff and co-ordinators of the various items who did a
superb job rehearsing students and getting everything together on the night. The Principal guests
I had with me were astounded at the talent and were very complimentary of the performances.
Well done everyone!
This week we celebrated our last Aussie of the Month assembly and handed out the Creative Arts
Awards for 2016. There were so many! It’s amazing how many students are involved in the huge
variety of activities that BEPS has to offer.
On Monday we have our Parent Helper Morning Tea – our way of saying thank you to all the
volunteers that make our jobs that little bit easier. Thank you so very much for all you do.
Our Presentation Night is on Tuesday night, then the Year 6 Farewell is on Thursday. The 2016
Year 6 has been an absolute pleasure to work with and I know they will all go on to be great in
whatever they do in the future.
Our last week is a little less busy, but I know teachers will be already thinking about 2017 and what
class they will have to teach. We will all enjoy a more relaxed week leading up to the holidays.
I hope I get to catch up with some of you before the break,
Cheers
Kerry.

Together, together, Kindergarten and Year 1!

We strive to learn, under great, big sunsets
Core values are all around!

Everyone can learn things in their own way
Just if we use our hearts (use our hearts)!
We’re all students,
At Blaxland East Public School!
Here is where we belong!
(Chorus)
We’re all at BEPS together!
Here we are
Learning things
Making friends
Forever!
We’re all at BEPS together!
Striving to
Reach our goals
And grow up
With dreams coming true!

inquiry-based learning, sport, mindfulness, coding and the much loved history mystery. With permission,
students will post their projects on our YouTube Channel.
