EDUCATION KIDS’ COLLEGE

Wayne County Community College District is excited to offer Kids’College classes to youth 4-17 years of age. Our goal is to develop andexpand students’ interests, stimulate creativity, provide uniquelearning opportunities and a fun experience on a college campus.

Our class offerings are taught in a hands-on fashion with an accenton fun. We offer topics from college prep, sports, performing andtraditional arts, reading and writing, science and math, andcomputers, to leisure activities like ballet or scrapbooking.

All Kids College students must com-plete the “Emergency Informationfor Youth Students Form.” Pleasegive the completed form to the in-structor during the first day of class.

CLASS CAPACITYKids College programs are self-supporting and require a minimum number of students enrolled beforea class will run. To avoid inconvenience to students, Kids College will cancel courses with lowenrollment one week in advance to avoid disappointment. Refunds will be generated to participantsof cancelled classes.

EMPLOYEE BACKGROUND CHECKAll Kids College instructors directly working with students have passed a criminal back-ground check.

DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP PROCEDURESFor safety reasons, Kids College students under 18 years of age are not to be on campus unlessaccompanied by an adult or attending Kids College programs. Your child’s safety is our number oneconcern.

Students must be picked up within 15 minutes after dismissal of their program. Repeated late Pick-upoccurrences will result in termination from Kids College with no refund.

WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITYAll youth students must present a signed waiver to their instructor before programs begins. The releasewaiver is conveniently located in our Continuing Education schedule book.

PHOTOGRAPHSThere will be photographs taken of students during programs. The photos may be used in futurepromotional materials. If you prefer we not use your child’s photograph, send a letter to:School of Continuing EducationAttn: Kids College801 W. Fort StreetDetroit, MI 48226

BEHAVIOR GUIDELINESProper standards of conduct are necessary to protect the health, safety and well being of all KidsCollege students. Behavior that might interfere with the educational process is unacceptable. Studentswill be respectful to other students and staff. Students will be careful with college equipment andproperty and the property of other students.

Parents will be contacted if their child is involved in any unacceptable situations during class.

Appropriate college personnel, reserves the right, at any time, to exclude any child from activities dueto failure or inability to follow as directed, any and all rules and/or policies for participants.

COMPUTER USE AGREEMENTCertain classes may use the World Wide Web (www) or internet as part of their curriculum developedby the instructor. With this educational opportunity comes responsibility, to be shared by the student,parent/guardian and college staff.

Students will use the software that pertains to their class. They may use the www/internet when theinstructor gives the permission. Students should tell their instructors immediately if they encounterinformation that is inappropriate or makes them feel uncomfortable.

Students shall not give out personal information while online. Parents will be contacted if theirchild is involved in any unacceptable situations while using the computer.
