Are you curious about what is the ldquoWaffle House Indexrdquo Do you want to have classroom activities that can actually help plan for natural disasters Do you want a simulation activity where students think like the adults involved in handling the chaos of natural disasters and learn good decision making skills Come join us for a half-day workshop for this fast paced dayThe agenda is as follows

Discussion of how cities prepare for and respond to natural disasters930-1020 Arizona Rescues Dr Niccole CervenyDiscussion of what types of rescues are needed in AZ and how people can avoid needing to be rescued1030-1130 Weather Ready Nation Being Prepared Dr Erin Saffell

Classroom ready simulation on being prepared for flooding1130-Noon End of Day Survey and Door Prizes

This is a FREE workshop thanks to a generous grant from Arizona Public Service Foundation but you must registerWe meet inside by the Library on the DobsonSouthern CampusParking is free at Mesa Community College on Saturdays4 Recertification hours will be given

The $30 commitment fee (required for registration) will be returned to you when you attendYou can cancel by January 28 and still have your fee returned to you After that date you are welcome to send a substitute in your steadIf you do not attend we will be keeping your deposit

QESST (Quantum Energy Sustainable Solar Technologies) hosts a Research Experience for Teachers program every summer at the ASU campus Teachers are given the opportunity to participate in an authentic research experience at our Solar Power Lab and then work together to write curriculum for their classrooms (Last year the stipend was $5200)
