HOW SHOULD WE REVISE?
What we Remember?
■ 20% of what we READ
■ 30% of what we HEAR
■ 40% of what we SEE
■ 50% of what we SAY
■ 60% of what we do
■ 90% of what we READ, HEAR, SEE, SAY and DO
DO’S AND DON’T’S
DO’s DON’Ts
- Revise in a well lit area with plenty of space
- Try to revise in a quiet space (low level music can sometimes help).
- Revise in chunks of 45 – 50 minutes with 10 minute breaks between.
- Start revision early and do little and often.
- Vary your revision tasks, and always test yourself with past paper questions.
- Revise in the middle of you bedroom floor in the dark!
- Revise in front of the TV or with music blaring!
- Make your breaks longer than your revision slots!
- Leave revision to the last few days, it leads to panic.
- Just read your notes and expect it to be absorbed by osmosis.
REVISION TECHNIQUES
Revision Techniques
You have been provided with two booklets.
- One contains a series of revision techniques.
- One contains some of the key information you will need for the exams.
You have 15 minutes to revise the content of the information booklet using a different revision technique from the selection given for each page.
After this you will be tested on your recall!
There is a prize for the winners
Key Words
■ Most students know the Science, but still lose marks- Why?
■ They don’t know what the question is asking
■ 60% of all errors are down to this
Help
■ Test your child on the key words regularly
– There are resources on the school website
■ Encourage the use of exam questions as part of revision
Exam Questions
Possibly the most important revision technique is practising questions
- They are available online, with the mark schemes!
- Exam questions cover similar material year on year.
- You need to practice reading the questions carefully
- There will be at least 1 question that tests on QWC
- There will be a number of questions based on ‘How Science Works‘
Task You have been provided with an exam question from each science, along with the mark scheme and a text book page with the required information.
- Read the question carefully and use the information provided to answer the questions.
- Use the mark scheme provided to assess your answer and then make improvements.
Remember:
Making mistakes is an important step on the path to success!
