SCIENTIFIC DIRECTOR OF “CAPO CARBONARA” MARINE PROTECTED AREA

SCOPE OF WORK

The Marine Protected Area of Capo Carbonara pursues the environmental protection of

the sea and coastal line, the protection and enhancement of biological resources and

geomorphology of the area and the fish population. It is also involved into the diffusion of

the ecology and biology knowledge of marine and coastal environments of the area.

MPA carrying out educational programs for the improvement of general knowledge in the

field of ecology and marine biology and the promotion of socio-economic development

compatible with the naturalistic and landscape of the area, in favour of the local

traditional activities. For that reasons the MPA needs the support of an expert for the

scientific and technical strategic and operational activities, both in terms of the

coordination and execution of the projects.

The Expert agreement concerns the following activities:

Definition of Research and Monitoring Implementation Plan for the period

2007 – 2010

Assistance in preparing and carrying out the procedures necessary to implement

the MPA objectives

Coordination and monitoring of the activities

Plans concerning technical, scientific and research aspects

Monitoring of Marine Ecosystems: Flora and Fauna

Detecting the presence of any new “Foreign Species” in accordance with the

Ministry of Environment directives

Rescue interventions for marine endangered animals and coordination of

subsequent actions to safeguard the recovered specimens

Scientific support in cases of environmental emergencies with particular reference

to the forms of pollution (Spill Oil) and flora and fauna protection

Development of further project activities, original or inspired by the national and

international good practices in partnerships with other Marine Protected Areas

Monitoring coordination on acoustic surveys of Marine Mammals and spectral

analysis of noise emissions

Scientific support of the Environmental Education Activities

Technical support for biological and environmental aspects to tenders

participation and international funding (UE Projects)

Technical assistance for the protection of dune systems and coastal ponds

Monthly report of the activities

Meeting participation

Scientific Conference Participation
