FROM THE BOARD PRESIDENT
Neighborhood Watch Information Be Alert, Be Safe, Be Happy!
The warm weather is finally here, well, almost!
Please follow a few suggestions to make sure your time & your neighbor’s time outside during warmer weather is safe and enjoyable.
Motor vehicle operators, SLOW DOWN, BE ALERT for children playing, pedestrians, bikes, golf carts, and those who may be working on their landscapes near to the street.
Pedestrians, BE ALERT when walking on or near the street. Always walk on the side facing traffic & wear something bright /reflective at night.
Cyclists, BE ALERT & ride in the lane with traffic, to the side when possible, wear a helmet and something bright/reflective at night
Golf carts operators, BE ALERT & if you do take to the street, Keep in mind you not as visible as a car or truck, ride in the lane with traffic, to the side & give right of way to all including pedestrians on trails, remember it is a privilege not a right to operate a golf cart at Gypsum Mills.
Let’s all have a Happy and Safe warm weather season!
As I sit writing this it is a frosty 36 degrees, cloudy and overcast, and I have to remind myself it is indeed April. However, it’s April in Upstate New York, which is a crap shoot as to the type of weather we will experience. So, I’m trying to take it all in stride and have confidence that this too shall pass. The other side of my brain recalls the year my youngest daughter graduated from college on Mother’s Day, in Rochester, with 3 inches of snow on the outdoor tent! One thing I do know is that thoughts are powerful, living things. Therefore, I am going to choose to think positively and say “Bring on the sunshine and 60 degrees!” Fingers crossed over here! I’m sure yours are as well.
I want to acknowledge Steve Myers and the slew of volunteers that completed the golf cart registration at Gypsum Mills. It may have seemed to some that it was an unnecessary undertaking, but the initiative is one that will help make our community safer and insure we are all operating from the same rule book in regards to golf cart usage and safety. Thank you to Steve for organizing and insuring the process went smoothly. Our community is fortu-nate to have Steve and his willingness to lend his knowledge and organizational skills. Well done!
Please mark your calendars now for the Gypsum Mills Board Meeting scheduled for June 7, 2018 at 7:30pm. Board members will be elected and re-elected at this meeting. Please plan to attend!
Since we seem to be struggling with the Winter of 2018 that just won’t quit, I’ve been doing some thinking about warmth. Not just physical warmth (which is always a good thing), but warmth in general. I hear people described as warm; rooms and physical spaces described as having a warm aesthetic; I hear songs and see pictures that con-jure up warm feelings. I suppose when physical warmth is difficult to walk outside or open a window and find, we look to experience warmth in other ways. I think that’s human nature. For instance, consider the people from this area that you know or have interactions with; family members, friends, acquaintances even. The people that wait on you at the pharmacy, the diner, the coffee shop, or the grocery store. I’ve noticed in the last month how people in this area defy the physical cold with their personal warmth. They are friendly, offer a smile, or just simply offer to help or provide assistance in some way. I want to believe the experience I have had could and would happen everywhere but I don’t know that for certain. What I do know for certain – is it’s like that here – in Gypsum Mills. While we have many reasons to lament the temperature, the snow, the freezing rain, the ice….does doing so add warmth to our daily experience and the experience of those around us? I’m committed to bringing the warmth to any space I occupy. If it isn’t coming from the air or the sky what can I do about it? I can smile. I can make a joke and bring laughter. I can give of myself by doing a kind act or saying a kind word to someone who is feeling the cold. There are so many ways to feel the cold that have nothing to do with what the tempera-ture is outside. While we cannot influence the thermometer, we can spike the warmth we bring to those around us. What can you do today to help someone feel a bit less of a chill? A thought to ponder while we wait for the glorious sunshine.
HAPPY SPRING!!
Fondly,
Hugh N. Crowley
President, Gypsum Mills Cooperative Board of Directors

THE POOL IS OPEN!
STARTING MAY 26TH!
(Weather permitting)
Daily Hours: 9 AM - 8:00 PM
REMINDERS:
Pool attendants reserve the right to close the pool due to inclement weather. Air temperature must be at least 70° to open.
If the RED flag is up, the pool is closed. Flag down, the pool is open.
The NEW Resident IDs are ALWAYS required.
Residents are allowed 6 guests per HOUSEHOLD per visit.
Children that are in diapers must wear swim diapers in the pool.
Children are not to use the restrooms un-attended and MUST be accompanied by an adult.
Water only! No other food/drink is to be consumed in the pool area.
PUZZLES! We have a huge assortment of jigsaw puzzles for you to borrow. Nothing is more frustrating than to be close to
finishing a puzzle and you realize a piece or two is missing. If this happens to you, PLEASE just throw away that puzzle – do not return it to the shelves. Every puzzle
that was marked piece or pieces missing has been thrown away, so unless someone didn’t mark a box, they all should
be complete. Thanks for your help with this!!
Our condolences to Dave & Wanda Vanderlee on the death of Wanda’s mother Pauline Zybeck at the NYS Vets Home in Batavia on April 16.

Community Center starting Wednesday May 9th. Please include name, address,
and any special items you'd like to highlight (limit to 5 please). This information
will be used by the volunteers that will be directing traffic on the day of the sale.
Some of our streets will be ONE WAY ONLY for the day. A list of items and the
number of homes participating will be published on many Facebook Groups,
Craig’s list and other sources of advertising. Feel free to also place your own
garage sale ad to bring more people into our community. Let's work together
to have a great sale! For any questions please contact Jenn at 857-8660 or the
email above. You can also use the form to volunteer for helping with traffic for a
couple of hours. Let’s make it a safe and fun event.
