Inside-outside circles is a cooperative working method that increases the group’s overall interaction.Inside-outside circles enables sharing knowledge, experience and thoughts, as well as learning from others.

Inside-outside circles
Instructions
1. Divide students into groups of 5 to 10. There should be an even number of groups.

2. Each group should form circle. Two groups work together: one in the inner circle and one in the outer circle. The people in the inner circle should face outwards and those in the outer circle should face inwards. Each student should be facing someone in the opposite circle.

3. Give the students their instructions. For example:Ask the person in front of you the numbers in English.

underway for an appropriate amount of time, instruct the students in the inner circle to stay in their places and ask the students in the outer circle to shift one student to the right

so that they are now standing in front of a new person.

5. The task continues with the new partner. This activity and the rotation can be repeated as many times as necessary to achieve the objective of the task.

Rotate the circles always to the same direction: to the right or to the left. Otherwise the students will always discuss with the same partner.
It increases the amount of simultaneous interaction in the class.It gets students up from their desks: students get to move around.Every student gets attention. The active participation time of each student in the class evens out. Each student has equal right and opportunity to participate.

It gives quiet and shy students an opportunity to participate in a safe way.
It increases students’ skills in communication and interaction.
It increases the positive atmosphere of the classroom. Often, inside-outside circles brings positive and liberated discussion compared to traditional round table discussions.
