The Scottish Home Awards is Scotland’s largest independent award initiative for house builders, architects and housing associations. The awards strive to highlight the breadth and depth of the hard work and creative flair in new-build housing across the country.

Twenty categories have been announced for 2013 which suit every type of new home, apartment, development and project, and we welcome entries from small boutique builders to large sized enterprises, from public to private organisations and from in house marketing teams to external supply companies.

Conversion of the Year

Waterside Development of the Year sponsored by Scotland on Sunday

Inspired creations which breathe new life into existing buildings will be recognised. Judges will be looking for information on the history of the site, design influences as well as interior specifications.

Scotland’s waterside locations provide inspirational settings for new housing. This category will be presented to a new development located next to a river, canal, lake, estuary or coast.

Eligibility: Residential and non-residential properties converted into multiple properties are eligible for entry. For example churches, hospitals, schools, castles, barracks and barns. Extensions to single dwelling houses are not eligible.

Eligibility: For new build developments set on watersides.

Environmental Excellence Award sponsored by Millar & Bryce

Show Home of the Year

House builders, developers or architects who are leading the way with a sustained approach to environmentally focussed products, practices or technology should detail their activity in this category.

For homes and apartments which have been carefully designed to show a new property at its ultimate best, while also effectively illustrating the range of properties available.

Eligibility: Open to developments, products, practices or technology.

Eligibility: The show home must be finished. Please provide images on CD, DVD or portable drive.

For homes marketed up to the value of £180,000. Judges will be looking for supporting information which gives an outline on design, layout, value for money and interior finish.

Cosmopolitan and chic city living at its finest, this award will celebrate the highest quality of urban living. Quality of design and build is important, as is location, interior specification and evidence of marketing ideas.

Rural Development of the Year sponsored by The Scotsman

Large Affordable Housing Development of the Year

This category seeks to reward a rural development which has retained the traditional character of the surroundings in its buildings, provides high quality accommodation and is sustainable. Entries should touch upon the rural challenges faced, special materials required, as well as explain how the development has contributed to a rural community.

Housing Associations, house builders or councils may enter this award which will recognise a development which has become part of a local community with a well-designed home where affordability and desirability must come together.

Eligibility: For private builders, Housing Associations or councils.

Eligibility: This category is open to a development of more than 100 units which may be part of a larger development and can be for sale or rent.

This category is open to private builders creating a development where affordability and desirability has come together.

Housing Associations or Councils may enter this award which will recognise a development which has become part of a local community with a well-designed community where affordability and desirability must come together.

Senior Living Development of the Year House of the Year sponsored by Bank of Scotland

This category will recognise retirement housing, sheltered accommodation or homes for seniors living in Scotland.

Entrants should include details on the type of housing, any special construction and design considerations that were applied. They should also address the housing in the context of the local area and how it has added value.

The family house market is one of the most competitive around and this award will recognise excellence in new build for houses marketed at or below £500,000. Location, value for money, quality and design are key. Judges will be looking for evidence of creative marketing, sales incentives and clever thinking.

Eligibility: Open to house builders, developers, architects or housing associations.

Eligibility: For a one off, stand-alone house or one that is part of a larger development.

This award will recognise a new build detached or semi-detached property marketed at or above £500,000 and is part of a new development. Location, value for money, quality and design are key, as are innovation, interior features and evidence of a high end specification.

The Architectural Excellence Award will recognise the work of a housing development with the judges looking for innovative design, sustainability and the end result must be a home with design and innovation at its core.

Eligibility: This house should be part of a larger development or new community or estate.

Community Partnership of the Year

The Architecture Excellence Award will recognise the work of a commission for a private client. The judges will be looking for innovative design, sustainability and the end result must be a home with design and innovation at its core.

For projects which draw together the skills of the public and private sectors for the benefit of local communities. The end result may be a housing development, community facility, residence or service and will show the public and private sector working together for the benefit of local communities.

Eligibility: For a one off commission for a private client.

Eligibility: For public and private companies working together to benefit a local community.

The work of sales and marketing teams is essential in the promotion of apartments and houses of all styles and build. Judges will be looking for the unique ways teams are assisting buyers, distinguishing themselves from the competition and creatively marketing their product. Incentives, promotions and persuasiveness will also be judged.

This award will be presented to a company in recognition of their efforts to create new housing for Scotland.

Judges will be looking for evidence of a clearly focused business which knows its customer and its product and evidence of how it makes its mark in a competitive market place.

Eligibility: For an in-house marketing team. External supply companies will also be eligible to enter.

Eligibility: For all house builders completing more than 50 units per year.

The ultimate award in the programme will be presented at the discretion of the judging panel and is not open for entry.

Guidelines for entry:• Entries should consist of an A4 written submission,

maximum word length of 1000

• Submissions should include copies of marketing materials, images, floor plans, CGIs/photography, location plans, specifications and pricing where relevant. Please do not send presentation boards or items larger than A3.

• Please submit for each entry:

• Two copies of each A4 entry on paper, bound or stapled

• One A4 copy unstapled

• One copy on CD, USB stick or portable drive.

• Emailed entries will not be accepted

• Please complete the entry form and attach to the front of each submission.

Notes for Entrants: • Developments which are currently under construction

or were completed between February 2012 and February 2013 are eligible for entry. If a development is not yet completed, please state clearly what stage the development is at.

• You are invited to submit as many entries as you wish but you can only enter the one development twice anywhere in the programme. Please note a separate entry is required for each submission in each category.

• Late entries will not be accepted.

• The Scottish Home Awards are free to enter.

• It is not a prerequisite for judges to visit developments; however they may choose to do so at their own discretion.

• The judges reserve the right to move entries into other categories as required, or create new awards during judging day.

• The judges’ decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into.

• By entering the Scottish Home Awards you give permission for the images included in your submission to be used at the awards ceremony and in the awards marketing materials.
