celebrates industry excellence and unprecedented contributions to members by providing value for money.

2 Titanium Award for Service Excellence

2.1 Administrators

This award recognises and rewards administrators providing superior service excellence to clients. The award

seeks to acknowledge efforts made towards the provision of innovative and high standards of service excellence.

To submit an entry, administrators must include supporting documents as outlined below. The winning entry

will be selected by an approved panel of judges.

Entrants will be adjudicated according to the following criteria:

1. Percentage growth over the past three years.

2. a: BBBEE score card. (Applicable to South African members only).

b: What the organisation is doing about leadership development.

3. Corporate responsibility projects.

4. An age analysis of contributions received.

5. An age analysis of benefits paid.

6. Governance, e.g. internal control reviews/independent audits of IT systems, compliance with PMB code of

conduct / CMS accreditation.

7. A customer service report, which includes:

• Call centre availability

• CRM system in place

• Claims turnaround times

• Methods for receiving queries

• Call centre management – call waiting time, drop rate, etc.

• Method of communication for:

- Claims submission

- Remittance advices

- Claims statements to members

- Application.

This award recognises and rewards managed healthcare organisations providing superior service excellence and

delivering cost effective quality standard healthcare solutions to clients, based on an agreed set of criteria.

The winning entry must meet the criteria below. The winner of this award will be selected by an approved

panel of judges.

Entrants will be adjudicated according to the following criteria:

1. Accreditation and registration certificate or exemption notice from CMS to be provided.

a, BBBEE score card (applicable to South African members only).

b, What the organisation is doing about leadership development.

2. A report of no more than four pages must to be provided, detailing the organisation’s activities in the

following areas:

• Range of services offered

• Narrowing of variance

• Cost efficiencies

• Is there a clinical committee?

• How funding decisions are made relative to quality and standards of care.

• How value is demonstrated in managing the risk of a client.

• Health status report and a quality of care report for your clients.

• Proof of outcomes of risk mitigation interventions.

• Client references and satisfaction survey results to be provided.

• Degree of patient compliance where disease management or other clinical management programmes

are offered.

• Information or patient education programmes provided to members.

3 Titanium Award for Health Facilities (Hospitals, Clinics, etc.)

Private sector

This award recognises individual private hospitals and other healthcare facilities. The award acknowledges

innovations and systems efficiency in the delivery of quality healthcare.

Individual private hospitals and other healthcare facilities are eligible to enter this category. Entry submissions

must include a motivation based on a set of predetermined criteria. The winner of this category will be chosen

by an approved panel of judges.

Entrants will be adjudicated according to the following criteria:

1. a, A BBBEE score card (applicable to South African members only).

b, What the organisation is doing about leadership development.

2. Corporate responsibility projects.

3. Participation in Private public partnerships.

4. Accreditation with COHSASA or similar?

• Where available, an audit report executive summary should be provided.

5. The assessment may be a self-assessment. The submission of a full self-assessment is required for this

entry.

• An executive summary of no more than four pages should be included to provide an overview of the

This award recognises and rewards public healthcare providers that demonstrate well-maintained facilities,

contributing towards the delivery of efficient healthcare services and patient satisfaction.

This category is only open to public health entries. Entry submissions must include a motivation based on a set

of pre-determined criteria.

Entrants will be adjudicated according to the following criteria:

1. Accreditation with COHSASA or similar?

2. Patient satisfaction survey results.

3. Evidence of a clinical governance programme.

4 Titanium Award for Excellence in Corporate Social Investment

The Titanium Award for Excellence in Corporate Social Investment (CSI) rewards healthcare providers making a

difference and an impact in improving the quality of life of the people in the communities within which they

operate.

This category is open to any organisation operating within the healthcare industry.

To submit an entry organisations must meet the criteria below and include a motivation. The winning entry will

be selected by an approved panel of judges.

Entrants will be adjudicated according to the following criteria:

1. Entry in this category is open to all medical schemes and healthcare service providers including

laboratories, pharmaceutical organisations and private practices.

2. The nomination must be made by the nominee organisation and approved by the head of that

organisation.

3. The nomination must consist of a motivation covering the following areas:

• Detailed description of the CSI project

• Practical achievements of the project

• Recognition of awards or commendations received

• Contribution to social and economic development

• Evidence of sustainability and project success

• Press releases and media coverage of the project

• Evidence of before and after effects of the project

• Key contributors working on the project and their background.

The entry must include written consent from the CSI project head and the head of the organisation.

The entry must include a well-presented and neatly bound report or motivation that is sufficiently

comprehensive in describing the nomination. Where relevant, drawings, graphs, tables and other

supporting documentation must be included. The report should include a clear motivation from the

beneficiary of the project.

• At least 10 high-resolution (min 1MB) photos and/ a two-minute video clip of the organisation in jpeg format and stored on a disk must be included.

• A high-resolution (minimum 1MB) logo in jpeg format must also be included.

CATEGORY 5

5 Titanium Award for Young Achiever

This award celebrates young professionals who have made a notable impact in the healthcare industry. The

award also seeks to promote effective succession within the sector to sustain the future of the medical

profession.

For entry, organisations or individuals must submit nominations of young achievers. Submissions must include a

motivation.

The winner will be selected by an approved panel of judges and must be available to represent the healthcare

sector at an upcoming international conference.

Entrants will be adjudicated according to the following criteria:

1. The nominee must be younger than 35 years of age on 1 January of the year in which the award is made.

2. The nominee can work in any sector within the healthcare industry.

3. The nomination may be made by a co-worker, BUT must be approved by the head of the organisation.

4. Nominees must be able to make themselves available to be an ambassador for BHF and to promote the

Young Achiever Forum within the healthcare industry.

5. The nomination must include a motivation detailing the outstanding achievements of the nominee

covering the following areas:

• Educational achievements

• Practical achievements

• Recognition of awards received

• Contribution to social and economic development

• Evidence of continued professional development

• Papers and presentations delivered

• Leadership ability of the nominee and his or her contribution to building the image of the organisation

and the healthcare industry in general.

6. The entry must include written consent from the nominee and the head of the organisation.

The entry must include a well-presented and neatly bound report or motivation that is sufficiently

comprehensive in describing the nomination. Where relevant, drawings, graphs, tables and other

supporting documentation must be included. The report should include a clear motivation by the

nominee as one of its main sections.

• A high-resolution (minimum 1MB) photograph – head and shoulders – of the entrant in jpeg format must be included. 10 additional photos and/ a two-minute video clip capturing the entrant’s daily work activities must also be included

NB: The nominee must make him/herself available for an interview with the adjudication panel if requested to do so.

6 Dr Humphrey Zokufa Lifetime Achievement Award

The Dr Humphrey Zokufa Lifetime Achievement Award seeks to recognise and celebrate any individual who has

made outstanding and exceptional contributions to the healthcare industry to promote, grow, improve and

advance the healthcare sector over a number of years.

This category has been renamed from Lifetime Achievement Award to the Dr Humphrey Zokufa Lifetime

Achievement Award to honour the late Dr Humphrey Zokufa, his legacy and contributions to BHF and the

healthcare industry, and to acknowledge his generous contributions and wealth of experience and skills. This is

also to continue to celebrate his dedication‚ commitment, energy and passion for an optimal and effective

regulatory framework in the healthcare industry.

This award is open to anyone who meets the criteria below. Entries must include a motivation and proof of

contributions made where proof can be provided. The winning entry will be selected by an approved panel of

judges.

Considerations:

1. The nominee must currently be contributing to the healthcare industry in some way.

2. The nominee must work in or have worked in the healthcare industry.

3. The nomination may be made by any individual or organisation with the written consent of the nominee.

4. The nominee must be able to make him/herself available to be an ambassador for BHF and to promote the

healthcare industry.

5. The nomination requires a motivation detailing the outstanding achievements of the nominee in the

following areas:

• Educational achievements

• Practical achievements

• Recognition of awards received

• Contribution to social and economic development

• Exceptional contributions

• Benefit consequent on the contributions made by the nominee

• Leadership ability of the nominee and his or her contribution to enhancing the healthcare industry in

general.

The entry must include a well-presented and neatly bound report or motivation that is sufficiently

comprehensive. Where relevant, drawings, graphs, tables and other supporting documentation must be

included. The report should include a clear motivation by the entrant firm or individual.

• A high-resolution (minimum 1MB) photograph – head and shoulders – of the entrant in jpeg format must be included. Ten additional photos and/ a two-minute video clip capturing the entrant’s daily work activities must also be included.

NB: The nominee must make him/herself available for an interview with the adjudication panel if requested to

do so.

CATEGORY 7

7 Health Journalist of the year Titanium Award

This category acknowledges health journalists and reporters who have contributed towards creating awareness

of industry news by disseminating news and information on healthcare issues to a wide audience, and going

the extra mile to explore non-traditional channels of communication to reach a wider audience.

This award is open to all health journalists / reporters across Southern Africa. It is a competitive award, and rigorous screening will be carried out in order to identity the best health articles published; it is important that submissions reflect reporting impact.

Investigative health pieces will be accepted; please include the full storyline for those pieces to showcase the full story build-up (even in cases where the story has not been fully concluded).

Consideration will be given to journalists who show impact through distribution and engaging audiences using social media channels. Journalists must show how they have effectively used social media to reach a wider audience on health-related issues; screen shots from the journalist’s page must be submitted in PowerPoint presentation form to showcase engagement and reach.

Entries are open to print, online, TV and radio reporters / journalists.

• The entrant must supply an entry confirmation letter from their editor.

• Submissions must include entrant’s name and that of the media organisation/s.

• Description of work submitted, publication dates or broadcast material should be detailed.

• For all submissions, a short profile (no more than one page) and a photograph must be included.

• At least 10 pieces of published writing or broadcast clips from between April 2016 to April 2017 should be included. Investigative submissions can date as far back as three years.

• Previous awards and other achievements must be stated and proof of such awards included.

8 Titanium Award for Advisory Services Excellence This award celebrates healthcare consultants providing superior service to both corporate and individual clients, based on an agreed set of criteria.

Entries are open to healthcare advisory consultancy companies. The winning consultancy will be chosen by an

approved panel of judges.

9 Application Process

Step 1: Call for Entry Notices

The call for entries opened on 5 May 2017. Entries will close on 5 June 2017. The announcement to potential

participants will be communicated directly via email, and a notice will be placed on the BHF website.

Step 2: Collation and Validation

All entries received will be collated by Ngubane & Co and then validated as to their alignment with the terms and

conditions as well as eligibility criteria set out for the awards.

All entries will be audited and entrants will be notified in writing of the acceptance of their submission. Should an

entry not meet the eligibility criteria and terms and conditions, the entrant will be notified in writing of the rejection

of their submission identifying the criteria that have not been met.

Step 3: Adjudication

The adjudication process will take place with each member of the judging panel independently marking the

entries, based on a unique voting form.

Step 4: Finalists

Finalists will be announced in the media and online and each finalist will be notified individually in writing.

Step 5: Awards Ceremony

The inaugural Excellence awards will take place this year culminating in an Awards Gala Banquet where the

winners will be announced. This event is being held in conjunction with the 2017 BHF Annual Conference on

Monday 17 July, at the ICC in Cape Town.

10 Terms and Conditions for participation

a. The Awards are open to any organisation.

b. Organisations throughout the SADC region may enter in any category relevant to them.

c. All applications need to be supported by relevant documentation.

d. The Judges reserve the right to cancel any category due to insufficient entries, or for any other reason, and

the decision of the judging panel is final. All results will be audited by an external accredited auditing firm

approved by BHF. The decision of the judges will be final and binding and no correspondence in this regard

will be entered into.

e. Entries will be published in industry specific magazines and will be distributed in hardcopy at the 2017 BHF

Annual Southern African Conference.

f. With the exception of confidential information, the information received by the organisers may be submitted

in its entirety to the publisher of any industry specific magazine for inclusion in the publication and entrants

should be mindful of submitting information that might be sensitive or confidential, as it will appear in the

public domain.

g. Entrants are reminded that the information they submit will be accepted VERBATIM by the publishers and

therefore should be checked and approved by all parties prior to submission.

h. Entrants should be aware that their information will undergo an editing process, necessary to ensure that

both entrants and category winners can be accommodated in published material and multimedia

applications

i. All submissions must be delivered in hardcopy with one electronic copy included. All copy must be provided

in MS Word. All photographs must be labelled and titled.

j. Entries must be submitted on or before the final day for submissions – 05 June 2017.

k. Winners will be announced at the Awards Gala Banquet on Monday 17 July 2017 at the CTICC in Cape

Town.

l. BHF reserves the right to cancel or postpone the Awards Gala Banquet or change the venue for any

unavoidable reason. All changes will be communicated effectively.
