EDITOR’S NOTEFourth Edition

Over the years, many saints have written songs forus to be able to sing the word of God. Singing the word isone of the best ways to be saturated with its riches, to“let the word of Christ dwell in us richly” (Col. 3:16), andis also a wonderful way to “be filled in spirit” (Eph.5:18–19). Scripture Songs represents a sampling of someof the 500–600 scripture songs we collected prior to1993.

This edition has been printed in response to thecontinuing requests for copies of Scripture Songs. Manynew songs have been incorporated, and many songswhich were difficult to sing or which did not match thehigh standard of God’s New Testament ministry havebeen dropped. Other songs were dropped due tocopyright restrictions.

Every attempt has been made to trace the source ofthe songs we have collected over the years. A number ofsongs previously used among the churches have notbeen included here due to copyright restrictions. Manyof the songs contained in this book are copyrighted byothers and are used by permission. Some very goodsongs were included although we did not know theiroriginal source. Please forgive us if we have unwittinglyviolated any copyrights in this way. If any information isavailable on these songs, please notify us so we mightgive proper credit in future editions. A list of copyrightsand credits is contained in the back of this book.

We ask the saints to forgive any imperfections in thetext or format of this book. Any suggestions orcorrections that the saints can provide will be greatlyappreciated. May the Lord use this book for theequipping of our young people and for the advancementof His recovery. Amen!

Scripture Songs Project

Scripture Songs Project originally began to edit thissongbook to help care for the young people in onelocality. This book was compiled so that the youngpeople could learn these Scripture songs (songs writtento Scripture verses), and could thus enter into theenjoyment of being filled with the word through song.Singing the word is the best way to be saturated with itsriches in order to live Christ spontaneously (cf. W. Lee,Life-study of Philippians, Message 37).

Our burden has grown considerably over the years, and we are now working on new songs for the children, the young people, and for all the saints. We want tocirculate songs written by the saints which match thehigh standard of God’s New Testament ministry.Singing the truths of God’s economy is a living way totransmit the heritage of truth entrusted to the Lord’srecovery into our children, new believers, and fellowmembers of Christ’s Body. Furthermore, by singingsongs that implant the high standard and vision of thekingdom gospel, we afford the Lord the ground to speakthese realities into existence in our daily living. Thiswill uplift the spiritual culture among the churchestoday and hasten our Lord’s return.

We now have available several song tapes forchildren and young people, and we are working onproducing Scripture songs tapes to enable the saints tolearn the songs in this book. Any saints desiring toparticipate in this burden are encouraged to write or callus. For information on ordering copies of Christian songtapes and song books, please write to:

Next to the song number, there is either a letter or anumber and a letter. The letter (alone) indicates the keyin which the song is played or (with a number) the key inwhich the chords are fingered. The number indicateswhich fret the capo is placed on.

Moving the capo up the neck one fret increases thepitch by ½ step. For example, a song labelled "3-C" is inthe key of C plus 3 half-steps, i.e. Eb. In many cases, the key signatures in this book are more suitable forsinging with larger groups. For smaller groups, you maywish to place the capo one or two frets lower than what isindicated, or simply play the song in a different key.
