The nonprofit organization’s MobileBooth visited South Dakota in June 2007, recording dozens of South Dakota stories for the archives.

South Dakota’s Mount Rushmore is recognized around the world; however, the story behind the construction of the national monument is not as well known. American Experience digs into the past with Mount Rushmore.
Learn more about the monument’s conception, the workers who risked their lives to complete the heads in the midst of the Great Depression, and the sculptor, Gutzon Borglum, a man who many thought was insane.
This documentary goes behind-the-scenes to see what daily life was like during the construction of one of America’s greatest treasures. Get the full story, narrated by Michael Murray.
Lewis & Clark The Journey of the Corps of Discovery became one of the most important expeditions in our nation’s history. Acclaimed filmmaker Ken Burns discovers the stories behind

Program Looks at Energy Use, IssuesSDPB Radio: Thursday, July 4, Noon (11 MT)BurnAnEnergyJournal.com
It is the fundamental issue of our time: Energy; where we get it; how we use it; what happens then. It powers our homes and our economy; it creates troubled alliances and disturbing divisions; it empowers and impoverishes; it enables almost all that we do and now threatens all that we have become.
BURN: An Energy Journal will explore our energy future through the stories of researchers, inventors, industry insiders and concerned
citizens on SDPB Radio on Thursday, July 4, at Noon (11 MT). These stories will help explain how and why we face an energy crisis, the dilemma of the continuing demand for energy, the realities and consequences of a mostly carbon-based industry and infrastructure.
The program also examines some possible alternatives and personal/global solutions to what looks increasingly to be an ever more grim energy and climate future in the coming decades.
Alex Chadwick hosts.
