Term 1, Week 5

Principal’s Message Dates For Diaries

Due to enrolled children’s life threatening Anaphylactic Allergic reactions to all nuts and peanut

products. We would like to encourage families not to send these products to school with their children.

These include peanut butter, nutella, sesame seeds, loose nuts, muesli, nut or chocolate bars or any

products containing any type of nuts. We appreciate your support in this matter.

Put Up Dollars: Our put up dollars will start again shortly leading up to the “put

up” dollar shop at the end of this term. Put up dollars are part of our positive

student behaviour policy and are used to reward students who “put up” others, as

opposed to putting them down. Teachers talk about ways our students can earn

these dollars in the classroom. Each time a dollar is earnt it is signed on the back

by the teacher and the child’s name is also recorded on it so confusion doesn't

occur.

Harmony Day: Our school will be celebrating Harmony Day on Friday, March

21. Remember to mark the date on your calendar. This special day is all about

exploring our indigenous and multicultural backgrounds as a Country and working

towards reconciliation. We will be having an exciting whole school assembly with

items to be presented by students from Years One through to Year Six, starting

at approximately 10am. It will be an out of uniform day where students are

encouraged to wear orange clothing.

Bakers Delight: Bakers Delight from Raymond Terrace very generously

dropped off to Seaham Public School students today a sample of their pastries.

Every student received one. We thank them for their support of Seaham Public

School.

We are mid way through term one already. I would like

to say thanks to all our students for continuing on with

their positive start to the year. I spend a lot of time in

classrooms and I always find enthusiastic students

engaged in their learning.

Bus Travel: Our buses continue to be a concern. At

school we reinforce with our students that bus

behaviour has the same expectations as school

behaviour. It is important they realise that the same

consequences apply for negative behaviour on the bus as

they do at school. We have ordered badges for bus

monitors. Shortly each bus will have two senior

students who will act as bus monitors. Their job is to

encourage good behaviour, report back to me and to

attend regular meetings where positive strategies are

discussed. The NSW Government also has links to

brochures which outline expectations and

consequences for bus behaviour.

Canteen: Please remember to check the Term 1 2014 price list for the items

that are available for sale and the correct price of those items. This price list

was sent home in Week 1 and is available on the school website. Please also

note that lunch items can not be ordered for the afternoon break and orders

are not taken for snack or frozen foods.

Mobile/iPods/Technology: Families and students are reminded that these

items are not encouraged at school. If your student needs to bring them to

school for any reason, it is highly recommended that they are bought into the

office for safe keeping. Students are not allowed to use these devices between

school hours.

Makeup: Families and students are also reminded that makeup (mascara, eye

liner etc) at school is not permitted at any time.

Security Banking: Our school has security banking, which takes place of a

morning. Students are asked to please hand all payments into the office or

teacher first thing of a morning. Just a reminder as well that we have a secure

money box in the foyer where payments can be dropped in. This eliminates

having money sitting in school bags.

Lost Property: Our lost property is located in the corner of the school

canteen. Families and students are encouraged to please look in the lost

property box for any missing items.

Family Update: Thank you to our families who have sent back their family

update information. As stated previously it is essential that we have the most

up to date information to enable us to contact you in the case of an emergency.

If you have not sent the emergency forms in, have lost them or did not receive

them, please contact the office.

Attendance Exemptions: Attendance/School exemptions are available for

families. To complete a school exemption, if sick you will need a doctors

certificate. Exemptions are also available for circumstances such as holidays.

An exemption means that those days absent will not be counted in the overall

absent period.

Homework and multi-tasking

Somewhere along the line we seem to

have absorbed the idea that teenagers

can multi-task perfectly because they're

digital natives. Can kids really do their

When lunch comes home again –

uneaten: Almost nine out of 10

Australian parents say children's

resistance is a major obstacle in their

efforts to provide a healthy diet, and in

many cases school lunches are one of

the battlegrounds.

But it's a battle families can do without and there are some simple steps to help avoid it.

Battery Recycling Program: With the support of Battery

World Maitland, our school will be participating in battery recycling

p r o g r a m d u r i n g T e r m s 1 & 2 .

What do I have to do? Your challenge is to collect as many batteries

as you can and drop them into the purple recycling bin in the office.

(Batteries only in bin).

How much money will the school get? The school will receive $2

per kilogram of batteries.

What sort of batteries? Every sort of battery you can image. Car

and truck batteries weigh the most, so they are awesome (but please

put them next to the bin). Also household AA, AAA, C,D,9V, video,

mobile phone, drill, digital camera, laptop, toy, remote controlled car

batteries.

Can I take them straight to Battery World Maitland? Yes, if you

would like to take them straight to Battery World Maitland, just

mention Seaham School when you drop them in their recycling bin

and they will add them to our tally.

What’s in it for me? Apart from earning money for your school

your helping the environment.
