The Intangibles – Why this is such an exciting opportunity

Leadership transition calls for institutional reflection, renewal and revitalization. The search for a new Dean of Enrollment at Thiel College is marked by great optimism at a very important time in the institution’s history. The administration, faculty, staff, students, alumni and trustees are committed to guiding Thiel College to regional and national prominence as the institution prepares to celebrate its rich 150-year history.

Important accomplishments are marking progress and key institutional metrics continue to improve.

• Over $25 million has been invested in new facilities over the past five years. This includes the state-of-the-art James Pedas Communication Center, which opened in fall 2014. The center is a collaborative learning community, our first LEED-certified building on campus, and also home to the Admissions offices.

• The College received its largest gift in history in 2011: $25 million from William S. Dietrich II. With this gift, The Kenneth and Marianna Brown Dietrich Honors Institute was formed — providing unique opportunities to engage in intellectual exploration, critical reflection and creative expression.

• The Career Development Center has expanded and built a four-year blueprint to work with students from day one, assisting with internships and career guidance.

• Neuroscience launched as a new department in fall 2014. In addition, the College partnered with the Greenville Neuromodulation Center, a world-class facility in Greenville, to build a Thiel College Study Annex for Science and Medical Arts to serve students and faculty.

The Dean of Enrollment is an ideal opportunity for two types of prospective candidates: An experienced Chief Enrollment Officer who desires a new challenge at a high quality institution where work/life balance is valued and encouraged. This is a role for a professional who would find the Thiel College experience a significant capstone to his/her career accomplishments. The cost of living, real estate values, and the joy of community in a small town provide a rewarding lifestyle for the Dean and his/her family. However, it is essential to emphasize that this capstone opportunity is challenging and entrepreneurial, working harder and smarter to deliver the results the institution seeks.

The second prospective candidate type may currently hold a ‘second-in-command’ role yet maintain a proven record of success in admissions coupled with a solid understanding of sophisticated new media marketing tools and strategies to attract the 17-20 age demographic. Familiarity with military and non-traditional students is also preferred, due to a growing expectation for additional education in those areas. Thiel College has a visionary president committed to helping recruit and retain academically well-prepared students, and enjoys the support and loyalty of alumni and friends. A promising professional will have the opportunity to establish a track record that will be satisfying and serve the institution and the individual well in his/her career.
