This is my first contribution to the Newsletter and wish to say am very delighted to be joining a great team. For those that do not know me, I have worked for Mermaid Maritime as the Head of Legal/General Counsel for close to two (2) years and during my time have been fortunate enough to meet many of the team in Seascape Surveys in both Indonesia and Singapore. While my official start date was 1 September 2012, I am currently offsite working on a project in the Middle East that I hope will be beneficial for the Seascape Surveys Group for the next several years to come. I look forward to working closely with you all and towards to contributing to the future of the Seascape Surveys Group. I am very excited and look forward to seeing you all in the near future.

In the meantime, please feel free to email or Skype me (mcdalelio) should you have any questions, comments, or perhaps any assistance whether work or non-work related that I can assist on. I have received many warm messages from you all since my announcement in joining the Seascape Surveys Group and thank you for your encouraging and kind words.

Hello Pak Mark..

Seascape Surveyor

Mark D’Alelio Managing Director

All colleagues and friends it has been a great period to watch Seascape Surveys start and flourish during these past 8 years, and without each individual Seascape Surveys would not be in the position it is today, what we have all achieved we can be immensely proud and I am sure Seascape Surveys will continue to grow and prosper going forward. When you grow a company there is always a time where you will need additional support to sustain the growth and this is the option we chose to align ourselves with Mermaid Offshore Services who can provide funding and back up to continue the growth. Seascape Surveys strength is in its people from the drivers to the support and field staff to the management everybody commits to the company and this makes it unique amongst companies of our size, many of you have been with us since the beginning and your loyalty is unquestionable, the newer employees can feel the company supports them by talking to the older ones and this is a great tribute. Seascape Surveys has a great reputation throughout our business and we can show that Seascape Surveys can work anywhere in the world be it on big projects or just small individual projects we have also covered a lot of different types of projects to show how diverse we are. Seascape Surveys has offices throughout SE Asia with a varied amount of nationalities working with us and everybody gets a long with each other and everybody contributes this makes the Seascape Surveys good feeling more solid. Therefore I would like to thank each of you for all your support over the years as I have decided to retire from the Seascape Surveys group of companies and do other ventures. I will always remember my time at Seascape Surveys and all my friends within the group I wish you every success in the future and hope you all stay positive and healthy.

Goodbye Pak Shaun..

Our New Managing Director of Seascape Surveys Group Companies Hard to believe it was April 2011 when the last Seascape Surveys newsletter was published. Time passes very quickly when you are busy and Seascape Surveys has indeed been very busy. The continual growth of the company, larger projects, larger assets, larger workforce, ever increasing revenue and company performance has become the accepted norm. Two of the bigger events of the last year are the long term charter of the Indonesian flagged DP2 Survey/ ROV vessel, Endeavour, by PT Seascape Surveys Indonesia and Mermaid Offshore Services moving to 100% ownership of the Seascape Surveys group. Seascape Surveys is a peoples company, our most important and valuable asset is without doubt our people. There have been many additions and unfortunately some departures over the last 2 years. Shaun China, a founding shareholder of Seascape Surveys and the “Boss” since company start up early 2005 has decided to retire. We cannot thank Shaun enough for his contribution to the company, the company he created, and we wish him all the best for the future. To all others that have moved on, I wish them every success and happiness. I hope we all remain good friends. To the many incoming staff, senior and junior, onshore and offshore, I welcome you all to the Seascape Surveys family. To existing Staff, a big thank you for your hard work, effort and loyalty. Cheers to the continued future success of Seascape Surveys, to the benefit and development of us all.

Peter Reichlmeier Managing Director of

Seascape Surveys Group

Seascape Surveyor Page 5

A great deal of project activity, hard work and effort has gone on since the release of our last news letter edition No. 10. From period Q1 2011 to Q4 2012 we have performed and completed 23 subsea inspection related projects. Covering a variety of subsea inspection work ranging from lengthy IRM campaigns, pipeline, platform, subsea asset inspections, integrity related tasks and also freespan rectification work. Clocking up an impressive tally of 301 platforms, 2549km’s of pipeline and 47 subsea assets inspected. Working with a mixed group of clients and end clients from around the Asia Pacific region; some very familiar, some new, all adding to an impressive track record for the company, notably; Chevron Indonesia, Chevron Thailand, ConocoPhillips Indonesia, CPOC Thailand, Allied Marine, Pertamina Hulu Energy Indonesia, EMAS, Hyundai, CTC, Hallin Marine, Mandiri Oil, PTT and PTTEP Thailand. Seascape has boosted the ranks considerably in the inspection department during this period to keep up with the continued and increasing demand for our services as a leading survey and inspection services provider. Our new additions of personnel have strengthened the team considerably, bringing along a variety of skills, experiences, backgrounds and nationalities to Seascape. We welcome back Dany Hidayana into the fold once again, working briefly with Seascape in the early days of the company formation, has returned once again, he has integrated back into our team seamlessly and contributing well to project efforts both with on and offshore work placements. Dany is lined up for the 3.4u course at TWI Thailand in No-vember, so we wish him all the best of luck. We welcome Samuel Ho, a young talented 3.4u Inspection engineer all the way from Brunei, hoping to extend his knowledge and experience with Seascape, we have no doubt he will be an integral part of the team. Ian Surplice, our resident English-men based in Thailand, a 3.4u with valuable onshore inspection projects experience as well as offshore operations, unfortunately supports Aston Villa FC, but we won’t hold that against him. Pradhitya Wira Satria, coming from the ranks of Indospec, armed with a great knowledge and experience of subsea inspection requirements for operators within Indonesia. Stephen Metcalf, our other experienced 3.4u residing in Northern Thailand, having employed Steve on a freelance basis for previous projects over the past several years were are pleased to have him as part of the fulltime team.

Focus on Inspection Division

Mr. Soong Weili and Mr. Wilfred Yii, joining at the same time early this year, adding a Singaporean and a Malaysian 3.4u to the team; both coming from a predominately diver related experience and back-ground, adding a much required extra dimension to the groups skill set and knowledge base.

Ari Ahmad, Ari not a unfamiliar face to those at Seascape, but certainly worth a mentioned during this period, quite unique in the group by performing a

duel role as a project surveyor but also as an inspection engineer from time to time, very commendable and something that we encourage, we welcome and hope to see more within Seascape following the same example and suit. All newcomers to Seascape irrespective of previous background and experience have to adjust and adapt to new faces, unfamiliar systems and methods within our company, I am happy to see the level of support, encouragement and knowledge transfer offered by our existing team members to all new starts. It is important that we all continue this positive culture of support, collaboration and excellent team work, it is after all a main ingredient to our continued success. There have been many client requests over the period asking for familiar faces to be available and on their particular projects – this is a testament to your hard work, abilities and professionalism. A brief mention and a very big thanks goes to Mike Phui, Alex Lo, Fahmi Iskandar, Angga Permana (albeit a Liverpool FC fan and current leader in the company 2012-13 Fantasy Football League – How did that happen?!), Adhitya, Ross Fordyce, Bona Mataram and John Sykes, for all your continued efforts and hard work during this period; very commendable work, I have no question of doubt this will continue going forward, thanks to all. To round off, the bidding season is on for 2013, we will be very much in the fray of the activity once again, so we expect another busy and very prosperous period ahead… Work well, keep safe. Till next update….

MV Endeavour Chartered by Seascape Surveys

PT Seascape Surveys Indonesia has undertaken a 2 years charter with a 2 by 1 year extension option of the MV Endeavour from PT Sukses Graha Samudera (SGS) commencing in May 2012. This commitment by PT Seascape Surveys Indonesia involved re-flagging the vessel in Indonesia to meet the Indonesian Cabotage law and with the primary purpose of conducting IRM campaigns within Indonesia and the South East Asian region. There are 2 ROV systems on board the MV Endeavour consisting of a work class SMD Quasar Compact system and an observation class Seaeye Tiger system along with a 20 Tonne A-Frame and 25 Tonne main crane allowing to Endeavour to be utilised for a variety of roles. The vessel has successfully completed the 2012 IRM campaign for ConocoPhillips Indonesia (CoPI) and Premier Oil Indonesia (POI) in the Natuna Sea and Singapore Straits. PT Seascape Indonesia was the first company to successfully complete the free span rectification for ConocoPhillips Indonesia within the Singapore Straits area. The vessel is currently in the JDPA area of Timor Leste for ConocoPhillips Australia (CoPA), having already successfully completed the Geophysical / Geotechnical and Environmental study phase of the project, with the relevant departments of ConocoPhillips Australia being very satisfied with the project execution and results so far. The vessel is currently involved in the ROV / IRM phase of the project. The commitment that Seascape Surveys has entered into with Miclyn Express Offshore is leading to a strong and professional relationship with the marine crew on board the Endeavour along with their managements teams both in Jakarta and Singapore. We look forward to building upon this relationship throughout entirety of the charter. (by Peter Boyd-Vessel Manager)

Survey Technical Flash

Many offshore surveys require the acquisition of a sound velocity profile in the water column. The sound velocity profile is obtained to determine the distance travelled during a unit of time by a sound wave propagating through a water column. Different depth layers will have different speed of sounds. The acquired sound velocity profile is entered into various systems e.g. USBL or Multibeam echosounder systems or any survey system operating that is based on acoustic signal/pulse. I believe, all of you are familiar with the various makes and models of sound velocity probe, but do you know how they work? The two types of probe are categorized based on the common methods of obtaining sound velocity in water as follows: CTD Probe The main three variables that affect sound velocity may be measured using a Conductivity, Temperature and Depth Probe (CTD Probe). This instrument can determine the salinity, tempera-ture and pressure variables then calculated the sound velocity of the water using one of the many formulae available. E.g. Valeport Midas CTD

Time of Flight Probe The speed of sound may be directly measured using a small acoustic transducer and a reflecting surface, mounted at a known distance from the acoustic centre of the transducer. If the distance from the transducer to the reflector is known, and the time taken from the transmit to the receive pulse is known, then the speed of sound in water can be calculated. Transducers used in sound velocity probes are typically of a high frequency (around 2 - 4MHz) as the transmit and receive distances are close enough to mitigate any significant absorption losses. E.g. Valeport MiniSVP

Now, we should be aware on how to treat the different types of probe while collecting data. CTD probes will need a longer period for initialization in water surface than a Time of Flight probes. Before it is ready to be deployed through the water column, the conductivity/temperature sensor will need to be initialized to obtain a settle reading as it changes from an air environment while on vessel deck to a water environment. Time of Flight probes quickly get settle reading once it enters the water and the probe should be ready to deploy. But, it is important for Time of Flight probes that the reflecting plate is clear of any obstruction which can cause interference during reading data (e.g. cable tie, weights, etc) and that no twisting or damage to the reflecting plate or body of the probe is visable. COPI IRM Campaign 2012

PT Seascape Surveys Indonesia returned yet again to Natuna Sea in Q2 this year to carry out the 2012 Campaign of the 2 years Underwater IRM Program in Indonesia for Conoco Phillips Indonesia (COPI), joined this year by Premier Oil (Natuna Sea BV), under an MoA, following the prior agreement with BPMIGAS, the Indonesian O&G Regulator. This was the first time that this style of Work Scope had been launched, joining together two Major Operators under one Contract Scope of Works with the encouragement of BPMIGAS and from commencement, there was a clear requirement for a new ‘mind-set’ in the way SSI developed its Project Execution Plan and relevant Risk Assessments, due to the differing ways in which the two Operators run their HSEQ and Reporting regimes. The operational scope of work for 2012 involved the mobilisation of DP2 ROV Support Vessel Endeavour, which had been engaged under a 2 years Charter party agreement from the owners, Miclyn Express Offshore, through their Indonesian entity, PT SGS. Another first for SSI, with the involvement of MEO & SGS, was that following ‘Class’ & BPMIGAS Inspections, reflagging, registration and subsequent Importation of MV Endeavour took place, bringing the DP2 ROV SV under Indonesian Flag within the Port of Registry, Tanjung Priok. This facilitated full compliance with the requirements of Indonesian Cabotage Principles, smoothed out Port and Field clearances and open the door to enhanced working opportunities within Indonesia.

The contracted scope of work comprised the ROV based inspection of the full range of Subsea Assets for both CoPI and POI in the Natuna Sea (South China Sea), Indonesia and the installation of 42 Freespan Support Structures for CoPI to support the WNTS Exportation Line. As in 2011, for the first Campaign, PT SSI provided all equipment, personnel, services and logistic support to complete the entire work scope as required and performed these services in association with Mermaid Offshore Services Ltd. Subspection Pte. Ltd. were engaged for provision of specialist CP measurement equipment and personnel and PT Formshore Indonesia as subcontractor for provision of grout bags and grouting services for the frees-pan rectification work scope. Data processing, QC and reporting was completed both offshore and onshore during execution of the project, and presented to allow assessment of the required free-span rectification work scope. Offshore activities began following some minor Personnel Crewing hiccups, with the Sail-Away from Batam Anchorage at 19:00hrs on 18th May and following in-field Trials, calibration and Contractual Testing requirements, CoPI accepted the Survey and Inspection Spread On-Hire at 09:56hrs, 20th May. Inspections completed for CoPI on 7thJune and moved across to POI, commencing in the Anoa Field on 8th June. Moving into July, the Work scope for POI was closed out on 1st July and MV Endeavour arrived back in Batam 3rd July to be remobilized with the Free-span Correction Spread, sailing back to the field in the early hours of 6th July to commence FSC works. All operations came to a stop on 14th July due to blockages in cement transfer piping within the vessel, which lead to 2 days lost Breakdown time and this has created a greater awareness to the depth of attention required in Vessel and Equipment Maintenance. However, problems were rapidly resolved in Batam and the Operations recommenced on 16th July, coming to a Final Conclusion at17:00hrs 3rd August. This most interesting Project was managed from the SSI project office in Jakarta, with regular coordination between SSI and both Clients, frequently all together in Weekly meetings. Excellent Team effort produced in excess of 40,000 man-hours of Safe operations, totally clear of any reportable Safety Incidents, with 323 safety observation cards registered over the 76 days of Operations. IT Knowledge

Survey Computer Accessories Do you know that Survey Computer Accessories are carefully selected to be able to provide maximum working experience in the field? It looks like a simple thing to do, but today there are a lot of brands, models and technologies on the market that make the selection not as easy as few years back. Our current survey computer accessories have already gone through many trial and error phases to find the most reliable product.

Moxa PCI/PCI-e Card to 8 Com Ports Working with survey equipment requires special devices for computers to able communicate with the devices. Moxa has become the bridge. There are 2 types of the card. PCI ( CP-168 U) and PCI-E ( CP-168 EL ). They connected to the device using Octopus Cable (CBL-M62M9x8-100 )

There is also a different type of cable using OPT8-M9, LED BOX. With this type, you can see the data transmit TX and RX by looking at the light.

OPT8-M9

VGA Extender To overcome distance between the computer and display monitor on other side of vessel we use Aten VGA Extender VE150. This can extend the VGA distance up to 150 M by using Network Cable. To connect from computer to the unit, requires a VGA cable Male to Female that is included in the package.

VGA Splitter

In order to spread the survey navigation view to several monitors we use Aten VGA Splitter VS138A 8 Port. The important thing when using this video splitter, is that we need to use VGA cable Male to Female ( special cable ) or VGA gender changer. This cable is not included with the package.

USB to RS 232 ( COM ) It is hard to find a Notebook with PCMCIA or com port. As an alternative, we can use MOXA USB to 4 Port RS 232 to connect the Notebook to the survey equipment. But there is possibility for slight delay for the data to reach the processing software. Thus this device should Not be used for critical or precision work.

RS 232 ( COM ) to Network When the equipment and the computer separated quite far apart, this COM to Network Server ( MOXA NPORT ) comes in handy. It change the COM port string into Network data that can be transmitted over normal network cable that can even be connected to ship Master Network Switch. The user on the computer side can point to the device using IP address and COM to Network device assigned to it. The unit is available from 1 port COM Up to 16 port COM device server.

When you are going out on a project, don’t forget to pack your gear and take devices that suit the survey needs. For comment and feedback please drop me email. (by Dista-IT Manager)
