Innovative Sock factory in FinlandSukkamestarit Oy started socks production at 1996 at Tampere city. After five years factory grew fast and established a new factory site and moved to Ylöjärvi at 2001. Today we are the largest sock factory in Finland with capacity of 4,0 million pairs yearly. We are working with 40 professionals with long-term experience in socks knitting.

Main market has been Finland and we are a major supplier for the Finnish market. Our socks are sold in all kind of stores; sport-, clothes- and mass retailers. As references from our current and past customers KESKO Oyj, SOK, Intersport Finland, SGN Sportia, Finnish Defence Forces, Halti, Seger, Icepeak, Adidas Finland and many more large and small customers.

Core valuesOur way of working has always been close partnership with our customers. Quality, efficiency and new product development are in our focus every day. Today we are famous in Finland of our fast service, short lead times and high quality. All yarns are OEKOTex 100 certified. Yarn lots are traceable to our supplier and suppliers are controlled with our sustainability program.

TechnologySukkamestarit Oy has made innovations in knitting technology, for example Patent 1998-2008 for three and four layer sock structure. Finnish military has chosen one of our three layer wool socks for the main sock in their collection.

Our ICT is connected to our customers systems with EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) connections. We can receive Orders, send Invoices, and provide Desavd, Pricat services to our customers. Production has the latest technology with RFID tracking for quality control and traceability. Factory is environmentally safe and all oper-ations are certified with ISO 9001:2015 certificate.

Our company was established by 5 professionals with a combined 100 years of experience in the sock indus-try. Company made a generation change in 2007 and the current entrepreneurs have been in charge of the company ever since.

For cold conditions we have selected materials that work together and keep the freeze outside.

Socks need to be at one with your feet. By adding elastic yarns in the right places you can feel your feet with the right fit and grip.

Quick-Dry treatment gives moisture protection to Polyamide or Polyester yarns.

Sock is knitted with seamless toe area. True linking makes the toe area comfortable.

For better fitting on the heel area, we use Y shaped knitting. Important with shaftless socks.

For more sustainability you can choose GOTS certified Bio / Organic cotton.

Anti-Cut protection to prevent blade cuts. Anti-Cut area is placed where there are no other protection gears.

Thickness

Light (L) socks are knitted flat, de-signed to fit the foot perfectly.

Medium (M) socks have terry knitting on the sole part.

Heavy (H) socks are full terry or partial terry on the foot or on the shaft.

Thermal grades

Uphillsport socks have thermal grades from 1 to 5, No 1 being the coolest and No 5 the warmest. The grade is determined by the structure and material combination. A multilayer structure gives a higher thermal grade compared to a similar thickness socks. Socks have an identifier in the name:

For example ‘M3’ = Medium thickness, thermal grade 3

Lengths

The length of the sock is described as:

Ankle just above the ankle.

Crew well over the ankle bone.

Calf mid-length of the calf muscle.

Knee all the way up just below the knee.

Multilayer structure brings the best out of the materials. Yarns are knitted into layers to maximize breathing and durability.

Quality materials matter Materials made to last

Merino wool Merino wool is very warm and comfortable to the skin. The yarn is breathable; wool dries fast and is naturally odor repellant. Wool can absorb almost one-third of its own weight in water and still be warm.

We mostly use a blend of 80% merino wool + 20% polyamide. This combination is increases the durability of the socks.

All merino wool is mulesing free. This means the sheep are not harmed while shearing the wool.

Bamboo viscoseBamboo viscose has a high moisture absorption value and feels ultra-soft. It absorbs six times more moisture than cotton. Bamboo also has its environmental advantages: renewable and rapidly replenishable, it is an alternative to plastic fibers.

Combed cottonCombed cotton has a fine touch quality, good durability and softness. Combed cotton is a natural fiber that is neutral to thermal grade. For more sustainability you can choose GOTS certified Bio / Organic cotton.

Coolmax ®Coolmax is a great material for stabilizing the warmth because of its fast drying ability. Coolmax is mois-ture-wicking and breathable. This material is polyester and it absorbs little fluid and dries relatively quickly. The cross-section is non-round, increasing the surface area by an estimated 20% in order to produce a wick-ing effect via capillary action.

Para-Aramid fibers We use para-aramid fibers called Twaron ® and Kevlar ® for protection against blade cuts or other outside threats to the feet. Para-aramid fibers are man-made high-performance fibers, with molecules that are char-acterized by relatively rigid polymer chains. The excellent strength-to-weight properties give the yarns very high friction point.

Polyamide, Nylon 6.6Nylon is mainly used for plating yarns to bring the sock better fitting and durability. Polyamide is a generic designation for a family of synthetic polymers. This yarn is very durable, holds the colors well after many washing times and provides good elongation.

Polyester Quick DryWe use Polyester with a Quick Dry treatment that makes the yarn more tolerant to moisture. Polyester is a generic designation for a family of synthetic polymers. This yarn is very durable, holds colours well after many washing times and provides good elongation. Elongation and durability for high performance socks is made with Polyester Quick Dry.

Polypropylene, Prolen ® We use polypropylene as a major moisture transfer factor in our multilayer structure. The water absorption index Polypropylene is almost nil and durability value high. Polypropylene is a mass-dyed polypropylene multifilament yarn. Production and PROLEN®YARN itself respect the environment in order to preserve it un-touched for our future generations.

Elastane yarns, Lycra®Lycra and other elastic yarns are covered with polyamide to bring more flexibility and a great fitting feature to our socks. LYCRA® fiber sets the standard as the world’s best-known elastane fiber brand. Lightweight and nearly invisible, LYCRA® fibers became the active ingredient in our clothes and revolutionized the way we wore them. Socks have elastane in different places depending on the sock.

Size chart

Washing E O K U XAll socks are suitable for a 40 degree machine wash. Tumble drying is not recommended. Socks may appear smaller after washing - it is recommended that you re-form the socks after washing for a better fit. Many socks have elastic yarns and because of this, they may seem smaller than they really are. Merino wool prop-erties get even better after usage and washing.

Uphillsport socks are made to be long-lasting, good maintenance will make them last even longer.

Uphillsport Ice Hockey socks are developed and tested with Finnish Ice Hockey teams. Socks are designed to fi t well within the skate and firmly to the foot.

Two different versions provides you with cool and warm solutions for your feet. For extra protection, you can choose anticut properties on the shaft.

3-layer structure brings heavy duty properties to your game. Next to your skin is polypropylene for breathability, the middle layer is merino wool giv-ing warmth and comfort, the outer layer is poly-amide to provide a good fit and protection against rubbing. Anti Cut on the shaft protects you from skate cuts and prevents accidents.

We added a para-aramid synthetic fibers only there where it is needed. Fiber is always knitted outside to maximize protect and smooth feeling against skin.

Because of para-aramid synthetic fiber high ten-sile strength-to-weight ratio; by this measure it is 5 times stronger than steel.

Aramid fibers share some general characteris-tics that distinguish them from other synthetic fibers:

• High strength

• Good resistance to abrasion

• Non-conductive

• Good fabric integrity at elevated temperatures

These unique characteristics derive from the combination of having stiff polymer molecules with a strong crystal orientation as well as close interaction between the polymer chains due to the hydrogen bonds.
