St. Jude Parish a Stewardship Community

Pastors Potpourri- A LIVING HOPE On this second Sunday of Easter, as we also celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday, we give thanks to God for the resurrection of Jesus…indeed a living hope for all of us. We always hear about that first Easter Night when Jesus enters the upper room in the midst of fearful disciples and gives them peace…he breathers on them and says “Receive the Holy Spirit, whose sins you forgive are forgiven. Whose sins you retain are retained.” His first Easter greeting is “PEACE”…and it is that gift that we celebrate today in the midst of this virus and all that has turned our world and our lives upside down. Be-cause of the gift of forgiveness, we have a blessing. That which Thomas received after his unbelief. We hear the Lord say to us today…”blessed are those who have not seen but believe.” May we continue to focus on Jesus in these Easter days and know that all things are possible in our lives because He lives! —Fr. Bob

Divine Mercy Sunday

We are separated by space on this great feast today, but never in spirit. In the midst of this frightening epidemic, let’s use the Divine Mercy of Jesus to recall the mercies of God throughout this past year.

Remembering back, what victories did you have in holding your temper, in holding your tongue, in holding back a savvy “shade” on someone? That’s mercy.

Blessed are those who have not had unkind words spoken to them; more blessed indeed are those who have not spoken unkind words themselves.

What physical challenges have you overcome this year? Did you fall prey to the horrible flu, or the bad colds of this season, or even pneumonia? How blessed are you who were sick and are now well. Even more blessed are those who stayed with you, cared for you, nursed and doctored you back to health. They have shown mercy, and mercy will be shown to them.

How about your prayer life? Did you experience the comfort and companionship of the Holy Spirit as you navigated the depths of Christ’s life in you? Maybe a faith community has welcomed and loved you. For that mercy, in the winter and spring of your days this year, be grateful. Even more blessed are those who have ex-tended that friendship and grace.

I know a little bit about mercy, because I am the endless recipient of it. On this Divine Mercy Sunday, I offer this suggestion. Find the im-age of Divine Mercy. Stand in front of it. Imagine the healing rays coming from the heart of Jesus pouring straight into whatever part of your body or soul is hurting. Let those rays in. The mercy of the Risen One longs to pour into you.

Jesus, we trust in you.

How can the Divine Mercy of Jesus transform you this year?

Thank you for journeying with us throughout Lent! Given the realities of COVID-19 and that communities are unable to physically collect CRS Rice Bowls, participants can submit your CRS Rice Bowl gifts online to https://www.crsricebowl.org/ Or you can convert your donations to checks and mail them to St Jude. In the memo please write CRS Rice Bowls. During this difficult time, every contribution will help those most in need in your community and around the world. No matter how you choose to give, 25% of your donation goes back to your local diocese to support hun-ger and poverty alleviation efforts.

St. Jude’s RCIA program is a year round pro-gram. This model of for-mation provides a form of learning, centered on the relationship of the individ-ual with the person of Je-

sus Christ and with his body, the Church. It centers catech-esis in the primary place where that relationship is fostered and celebrated, in the community of faith that gathers Sun-day by Sunday throughout the year. “Within the cycle of the year the Church unfolds the whole mystery of Christ, from his incarnation and birth until his ascension, the day of Pen-tecost and the expectation of blessed hope and of the Lord’s return” This model also respects the journey of each per-son. It assumes that those who come seeking initiation will be welcomed whenever they arrive, no matter what time of the year that happens to be.

In this model of sacramental catechesis, the Church uses the language of journey, conversion, discipleship and relationship. Rather than a program of specific instruction, the RCIA suggests a fluid, gradual process of formation, the heart of which is the paschal mystery of Jesus Christ.

Divine Mercy Prayer You expired, O Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth for souls and an ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world. O Fount of Life, unfathomable Divine Mercy, envelop the whole world and empty Yourself out upon us. O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fount of mercy for us, I trust in You. Amen
