planting. Industries Included Shipbuilding, Hunting,

Common: Center of town, large field for grazing animals

Apprentices: boys learned a trade by working with a master– printer, blacksmith, banker

• Extra food could be sold as Cash Crops (crops grown to sell for profit)

• Best Cash crops were tobacco, wheat, corn

• NICKNAME: The Breadbasket Colonies because they grew so much grain for other colonies. The crops were used to make “BREAD”.

• Very diverse population: German, Dutch, English, French, Swedish, Irish, African, Scottish
