AIM: What was life like in the 13 colonies?

• Founded by John Winthrop and his followers (Puritans)

• Puritans want to reform (change) the Church of England

King of England did not agree with the way they practiced their religion.

Government Puritans had to get a charter from King CHARTER- written permission to form

– Only male church members with money could vote

– Governor’s word was the final law

Common: Center of town, large field for grazing animals
