Diet does not mean thin

• The word diet is often misused in magazines and on the TV.

• Eating too little, or deliberately not eating one type of food can lead to illness.

• For optimum health we should eat a balanced diet.

• A selection of foods from all the sections of the Eatwell plate.

Unhealthy eating

• Eating too much of the wrong groups can lead to ill health.

• Too much fat and sugar = obesity.

• Too much sugar = tooth decay.

• Eating too little of some groups can lead to a lack of vitamins or minerals.

Why is a healthy diet important ?

• For good health.

• To help maintain a healthy body weight.

• To enhance general well being.

• To reduce the risks of a number of diseases including ; heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, and osteoporosis.

Some vegetarians will also eat milk, cheese, other milk products and eggs.

Vegan food

Vegans will not eat any animal products at all.

• No milk, dairy, or yoghurt.• No eggs.• No honey.• No jelly ( gelatine ).• No cheese ( rennet ).• They will not wear leather, fur, wool or silk.
