Hospital Watch Program

Report all suspicious activity to Special Police. Know who is in your work area and why they are there. Let Special Police know about any items in your department

that you cannot identify. Always secure your ID badge and personal belongings. Make sure all doors in secured areas are locked. Do NOT allow tailgating into secured areas. Never hesitate to report suspicious persons and/or activities

to Special Police. Enforce the Just Two Please Visitors Policy.

Alarm Code and Access Control

Multiple secured areas in building. Do not allow tailgaters when entering

secured areas. Pass codes are NEVER to be given to

unauthorized persons, including patients, families, vendors,etc.

Reporting Security Incidents

Notify Special Police of all security related incidents. 17th. Street 2444 Cape Fear 8300 Off-Sites

Suspicious Mail and Packages

Inspect all mail /packages before opening.

Immediately report any suspicious mail/packages to Special Police.

Management of High Profile Events, Patients, Visitors

At times, individuals may enter the organization who require additional security measures.

Measures include limited visitation, telephone calls, increase police patrols.

Security Risk Protection Plan

Patients may be in danger of harm from others and/or staff maybe in danger when a patient is a high security risk.

Notify Special Police of such situations so protection measures can be put into place.

Protection measures include: limitation of access to patient’s name limitation of visitors, telephone calls department may be placed in lock down

Protection of Patients in Custody

When a prisoner or inmate enters the organization, the law enforcement agent in charge of the person must receive safety information.

Notify Special Police, who will give the information to the officer.

Code Orange

A situation when an individual has physical control of another person in an attempt to have his or her demands met by the staff.

Know what to do if you are ever taken hostage.

Infant and Child Protection Plan

Women and Children’s units are secured areas.Employees must have a business reason for entering units.

All employees with access to these areas must complete the Infant Protection Competency.

Threat, attempt, suspected or actual removal of an infant without proper authorization.

When Code is called: Search your department. Secure all entrances and

exits. Report person with bundle

/ package

Three Reasons for the Alert

When information is received from another facility that reports a suspicious circumstance and/or an actual infant abduction has occurred at another facility.

After a suspicious infant related event has occurred in this organization.

A Code Pink Alert will be sent to other medical facilities to alert them of the potential risk.

The finding of a suspicious object or the threat or actual placement of a bomb.

Acute patient care departments and connected buildings search their departments.

Other buildings immediately evacuate.

Threat of safety to self or others.

Special Police will immediately respond to site when code is called.

Report any injuries to Employee Health.

A high security situation that requires the locking down of certain departments and/or the entire campus.

Check to make sure all persons in your department have reason to be there.
