I just came back from spending 2 months in an orphanage in Rwanda. It was the most amazing experience I’ve ever had. These kids have nothing, their families were s l a u g h t e r e d in the genocide, and yet they’re so happy. Kagame wants to piece Rwanda back together, starting with education. Education is the most fundamental tool we can give these kids in order for them to grow up and live a normal, non-discriminatory lifestyle.

We began searching for venues all around
Manhattan, setting up appointments and
weighing the pros and cons of each. The
Bowery could fit 600 people, included
all of the amenities we needed, the only
issue was cost. We weighed pros and
cons and knew that just by the mere fact
that the event would be held at the Bowery
Hotel would entice our sponsors as well
as our guests. Although throughout the
process we incurred more costs than
anticipated, we were able to let go of other
added value items and balance it out.

“Woke up to learn that HAVAS, one of the largest global advertising, digital and communication groups, is sponsoring the Seed for Growth charity event. Way to #makeachange”

SponsorsWe didn’t have the budget to provide
drinks and food for our guests so...
We began researching potential
sponsors that might be willing to be a part of
the initiative in exchange for helping a good
cause and promotion for their brand.
We looked at sponsors that had helped
previous charities or had done work
in Rwanda, spoke to our respective
networks for any contacts they might
have, compiled a list and began emailing.
After many rejections, we finally found our
7 sponsors. Throughout the time leading up
to the event we had to discuss quantity,
logistics, and agreed upon promotion for
their generous donations.

We began researching what forms of entertainment would be fun as well as feasible to implement at the event. Considering the vast amount of artists, DJs, and photographers in NYC, it was just a matter of reaching out to friends as well as physically going out and finding people. This process took months. We started out merely wanting a silent auction, DJs and photographers, but as the event came closer we realized we could do so much more. We collaborated with a gallery to do a pop up art exhibition in the space, found a tarot card reader, electric violinist as well as a magician, all of whom graciously donated their time and skills. The main problem was making sure these artists worked within our time schedule. It was about using our extensive mediums of communication to reach each and every one of them and make sure they delivered on time.
“6% of the total Rwandan population are orphans with ages ranging 0-17 compared to 0.7% in the US... Organizations like Hope Made Real make a huge impact for Rwandan kids, still bearing the scars of the 94 genocide - help us fund Hope Made Real’s primary school”

“Thanks to all of your generous contributions, we were able to raise over 23K in profits for Hope Made Real. Mama, the organization’s Founder & Director, will now implement her dream by building a primary school for the children of the Urukundo Learning Center in the South Province of Rwanda.
Not only did your presence and generous contributions help build the actual classrooms, but also all of the furniture and school supplies needed by the kids; you might not know who they are, their name and stories, but you can be sure of one single thing: you altered their destinies, for the better.
Thank you again so much for those who were present to the Seed for Growth event, to our donors, sponsors, benefactors and to the members of the organizing committee who greatly helped us in our endeavor.
Hope to see you all next year...”
