Seeing Things Making Kaleidoscope

MirrorsLong narrow glass mirrors work best but are more difficult to work with than plastic mirrors. If the back is covered, they will last a very long time. Be careful that you do not damage the coating on the back by trying to remove or adjust duct tape.

You can often obtain scrap glass mirrors from Window & Mirror companies at reasonable prices. They may even cut them for you.

Dimensions are not critical.

Place the first two mirrors face to face.

Duct tape the mirrors together. Fold as shown.

Fold duct tape over the mirrors as shown.

Flip over the mirrors so that the duct tape is on the bottom.

Flip the back mirror down. There will probably be a gap between the mirrors because the duct tape does not stick to the edges. This is planned.

Sit the vertical mirror on top of the horizontal one. Place another mirror face to face.

Duct tape the mirrors together.

Fold as shown previously.

Flip the mirrors down as shown.

Then flip the top mirror up and add another mirror.

Duct tape the mirrors together again as shown previously.

Flip the mirrors down again as shown before.

Repeat, adding mirrors until you have five mirrors .

Squeeze the mirrors together.

The duct tape should be folded up between the mirrors, sticking to the edges.

Place a narrow strip of duct tape on top of the mirrors in order to keep them squeezed together.

Place a card with a hole in it in front of the Kaleidoscope. Then look at a bright light.

The mirrors can be folded in many different ways other than the traditional equilateral triangle Kaleidoscope.
