It's Russia, and the economy is booming But it means nothing unless you can convince
your corporate HQ that this is the place to be!

'Selling Russia to the World'
USA & Western Europe - still suffering from the global, economic downturn.
And we won't even mention Japan...
'Selling Russia to the World'
The Russian economy was considerably less affected and came out of recession more quickly than most other major countries
the high oil price has made Russia an attractive place to invest (again)!
'Selling Russia to the World'
You & I all know this, but what do your bosses abroad think about Russia?

'Selling Russia to the World'
Selling Russia internally - how to explain the corporate culture, local market conditions in Russia and how to hire staff to your HQ
• Russia is different, but not that different
• There is a shortage of good candidates - the recent 'krizis' has not resulted in millions of great people who are suddenly available & ready to work for you for half price
• Things in Russia move fast (this point is more aimed towards French & German companies where the decision-making process can last many months) - if you like a candidate, be ready to make a quick decision
• Don't expect to tick every box on your wish list, and don't hold out looking for the perfect candidate. Believe me, they don't exist in any country (and even if they did, there's no guarantee that they'll want to jump ship and join your company)!
'Selling Russia to the World'
• Whenever you are told "we wouldn't hire this person in the UK" - just remind
them that we're not in the UK
• Don't read the UK/international press - Russia is not that dangerous (don't worry about the Russian mafia - that'll be the least of your worries)
• Take a long term view - don't just expect to turn up and make a fast buck
• Russian do business with people, not with companies - and they do it face-to-face, not by e-mail - be prepared to make repeated trips and get on a personal level with your staff and customers
• Sell' your organisation to potential candidates, but don't expect them to sell themselves to you! Don't fly in and start an interview with the question "why do you want to work for us"? If you do, please don't be surprised when the answer is "I don't"!
'Selling Russia to the World'
One of the advantages of so many people in the west being frightened of doing business in Russia
means that there is considerably less competition for those who are here!
