“Every morning in Africa, a Gazelle wakes up.It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning a Lion wakes up. It knows it must

outrun the slowest Gazelle or it will starve to death. It doesn’t matter whether you are a Lion or a

Gazelle... when the sun comes up, you’d better be running.” - ABE GUBEGNA

Selous Mbuyu Safari Camp is situated in the heart of the Selous Nature Reserve, overlooking the mighty Rufiji River. The reserve first established in 1922 and situated in breathtaking southern Tanzania, is the largest protected wilderness area in Africa covering a total area of 55 000 square kilometres. This UN World Heritage Site is nearly four times the area of the Serengeti in size, covering a larger area than that of Switzerland!Rugged, untamed, spectacular and breathtakingly beautiful, Selous offers you a pass into the heart of Africa. Mbuyu Safari Camp offers unparrelled luxury amidst the vast stretches of savannah and forest land called home by a multitude of game, makes for the ideal untouched game viewing experience. Under the protection of the Tanzanian Wildlife Department, the last untamed African wilderness remains exclusive to the animal kingdom which inhabits it and the privileged few who will walk amongst the unique beauty of the area.Follow in the footsteps of the great explorers like Frederick Courtney Selous (after whom the reserve is named and who is buried there), David Livingston and HM Stanley who discovered the adventure and breathtaking scenery that the reserve is made of.

The name Mbuyu is the Swahili name for the Baobab tree - a large African tree found in the Savannas. This magnificent tree can grow up to 20 meters in height while living up to 3000 years. This natural wonder compliments the treasures of southern Tanzania. Mbuyu Tented Lodge is perfectly situated to allow you spectacular views of the Rufiji River and the animals roaming the area. The camp is in close proximity to the majestic Rufiji River, however it remains safe from flooding and erosion, and is only five minutes from our own airstrip, a quick 45minute flight from Dares Salaam will get you there. The camp affords you all the comforts of luxury accommodation without detracting from the natural beauty of the rustic environment at the heart of the Tanzanian wilderness. This luxury tented camp on the banks of the Rufiji River is teeming with wildlife such as elephants, hippo, crocodiles and buffalo and is a birders paradise. All luxury tents are en suite with a balcony overlooking the river. It is the perfect place where one can relax in your own private sanctuary while watching hippos meander lazily in the hot afternoon sun.

Soft furnishings and rich Masai colours decorate each room, adding to the traditional African feel. The main theme is relaxation and reflection under African skies while you take in the beauty of the surroundings next to the pool or sprawled out across the large sofa, reminiscing on the day’s activities.

Mbuyu offers you various ways to take in nature with walking safaris, boat safaris, cycling safaris, fishing and game drives. Day trips to Selous’s final resting place can also be arranged and include a packed picnic basket for your enjoyment and to sustain you on your full day journey.

For relaxtion we offer an infinite pool overlooking the Rufiji river, a fully equipped mini gym, an elevated game viewing platform and numerous riverside private banda’s. At night the camplife centres around a roaring log fire, with night sky viewing that is beyond compare.
